Denver’s original steakhouse, The Buckhorn Exchange is located in the city’s oldest neighborhood, just 5-minutes from downtown Denver -- with a light-rail stop right across the street. This National Historic Landmark and Western Museum has been serving the finest in Old West fare since 1893.
Prime grade beef steaks, buffalo prime rib, elk, salmon, quail, game hen, and succulent baby-back pork ribs are just some of the marvelous offerings on the Buckhorn menu. Exotic appetizers such as alligator tail and buffalo sausage are available, and no dinner is complete without the house specialty, Rocky Mountain Oysters.
For lunch we serve up a lighter fare including our renowned Grandma Fanny’s pot roast sandwich, enormous beef and buffalo burgers and more!
It's always a blast taking new people to the Buckhorn. Consistently great food and atmosphere!!
We loved this place and will be back again! We celebrated my husband's birthday and settled on this place after reading reviews and watching a recent news segment on them. We are so glad we made it here - our server was great, the NY strip was done perfectly and we can appreciate all of the mounts and history throughout the restaurant. Great experience and would encourage people to give it a try!
Very disappointed in the food we drove over an hour to experience, we ordered the 24 oz. porterhouse. My wife order hers medium and it came out totally rare sent it back and the same steak was returned nearly well done and the potatoes on the plate were not re-heated, I ordered mine medium rare and it was cooked unevenly parts of it was medium and other parts were rare. None of the food had any flavor at all, the steak, mashed potatoes, and side of mushrooms all tasted like none of it was seasoned. One of the steaks was very fatty. The portion of salad that came out with the meal was very small. There was also a water leak coming from the window and dripping down on the edge of the wood and splashing my wife and a gentlemen next to us. Over all I just feel when you order a $59.00 steak it should come out to perfection and taste. Our visit prior to this one was excellent.
Absolutely fabulous food and service. The bartenders upstairs were very entertaining. We enjoyed everything about our dining experience.
The food was amazing! The service was so knowledgeable and kind! I would 100 percent recommend getting the specials, but if not I would go for the combo plates so that you can have a little of everything. Also, come hungry and do not fill up on bread.
Traveled from Los Angeles just to enjoy the wonderful faire at this outstanding Restaurant! To see Denver is to eat at the Buckhorn exchange! Highly recommend to all. Food flavored perfectly and not spicy for seniors also! Marx was an excellent server, highly recommend!
Such a cool place for a special occasion or a nice dinner out. Food came hot and fast. Almost too fast. The animals are fun to look at. The wines by the glass list could use an update as well as the wine glasses themselves. Apple pie was delicious. Overall, recommended if you are looking for something completely different.
Had a fantastic lunch at #buckhornexchange Denver’s oldest restaurant/steak house. Grilled buffalo prime steak with garlic sauce, veggie melody and housemade mustard were on point. The entire building is a trace of 125 years history and looking around the property was the perfect way to finish a big meal. Please note that I went there for a lunch and noise level might be different at night.
Everything was what we expected or better after checking out on the web. Super service, and food prepared as ordered. Decor was exceptional and historical. Liking stepping back to the 1880's. Will definitely going back when in Denver area. Order anything that is Elk or Buffalo.
Appetizer over priced, meal was not.
We had a ball at the Buckhorn Exchange! Our waitress Lynn had been there a long time, told us a lot of historical facts and was super efficient. The food was exotic and delicious. We had buffalo, elk, quail, and even rattlesnake.
The ambiance was lively and fun! There were so many old newspaper articles, pictures and big game on the wall to look at.
Over all a great evening, and easy access right off of the light rail.
Fantastic service and food!
There's so much to see!
I need to go back again and again!
Incredible meal and experience. A must for your bucket list .
Love the animal decor... very very cool. First liquor license of Colorado they acquired is displayed at their bar. Great service and amazing food.
Atmospere, service and selection of food are all excellent. Historic restaurant with great atmosphere. Rich in area history.
Amazing food, beautiful building full of history. Well worth going to visit and have a steak.
Loved the atmosphere, menu and service. The buffalo prime rib is a must!
Loved this restaurant! Great service, unique food and its like a museum inside. Very cool. Will be returning!
They always have delectable selections, especially their daily specials. Love the atmosphere. We always take out of town guests to this very unique and history filled restaurant when they are visiting. Always so pleasurable to see their expressions on their faces when they enter.
This is a place to visit if you are in Denver. The food, service and surroundings were great. The ONLY small issue was the noise level made it difficult to carry on a conversation or to hear the server.
It was our anniversary and we wanted to take our time and enjoy a cocktail before ordering our meal. It seemed our server wanted us in and out. When it was time to order she was abrupt answering questions about the food. Would not look at us while answering at times. The food came and the
Buffalo prime rib was excellent but the potato was not good. The amount paid for the meal was not reflected in the quality or service. If you want to see animals mounted on the wall that is the place. Otherwise extremely expensive.
Vintage Denver meat house with traditional steaks along with buffalo, elk, wild boar and more. Great to take out of town family and friends for an authentic Wild West experience. My parents from Miami enjoyed it so much we went back the next day for lunch.
The kitchen does a wonderful job - meats are cooked perfectly and everything comes out appropriately hot or cold. Service staff is attentive and does not rush you.
It has been years since I have been at the Buckhorn Exchange. The neighborhood and light rail have changed the neighborhood. Service was terrific, as was the food but portions are smaller and prices up. Then again I am old and live in the past. Perhaps morning tours would be an idea for the future to offset costs.
Server was so-so, kept running off before we could ask questions/tell her how we actually were. Mom's elk steak tasted like propane as did her quail. Buffalo steak was good, lamb chops were good. Ambience was very cool.
Excellent experience. Staff was amazing, they made excellent suggestions.
Great experience. I didn't feel like we could complete our Denver trip without visiting Buckhorn Exchange for some bison steak and Rocky Mountain Oysters.
The dining experience at the Buckhorn Exchange has gone downhill since my last visit. The dinner was too expensive for the quality of the food. The ribs were old and warmed over. The buffalo prime rib was fatty. Past dinners there were very different. I will not go back. Try another option.
It’s a staple in Denver so you have to go , when you go to the mile high city !!!
Good atmosphere for a birthday party for a country boy. We had a great time trying meat we had not had before. It was prepared wonderfully, and the recommendations were on point.
Poorly prepared food, crappy service!! Talk about using your history to screw your customers!
Coming from out of town we were told a Must-See in Denver was an evening at the Buckhorn Exchange! We were not disappointed! Every part of the dining experience was professional and first-class. The reservationist, waitress and servers all were glad to see us and made us special throughout the evening. I have already started telling our friends back home about our memorable dining experience!
Disappointed in the food for the amount of money spent. Great to go and experience but will not return.
We really did enjoy our overall experience at The Buckhorn. The restaurant is cool and has a really nice vibe. Lots of neat heads and birds. The food was also pretty good. Not as amazing as I had hoped, but good. The service was good as well. It’s pricey so be prepared.
If you want authentic old Colorado flare, this is the place! Great service and amazing vibes.
The gentlemen who greeted us at the door was woinderful and moved us to a different table on request. It was my husband Bday. Amber was great. The special rib eye had good flavor but was a bit tough. Pot roast was great
Great atmosphere! Unique and fun experience. Pricey but worth it!
A long needed awesome meal for me and my special lady.
It was our second visit, and it won't be our last! The food is incredible, and Mara gave the best service both times we've been in. Superb, all around!
This was my first time dining at Buckhorn Exchange and I was very impressed. Our waiteress was phenomenal, the atmosphere was very pleasant, and the food was cooked to perfection!
Sitting is kinda cramped and people are walking around taking pics while you are eating. Food and service was amazing. It was our first time visiting and we will return
