Buccan Ratings and Reviews
The meal was superb, the service excellent, the noise level unbearable, hard to have a conversation of spite of being only four at the table.. The menu is complicated and needs a knowledgeable and willing guide- our waiter was keen on suggesting the guests’ favorite choices, which made our dinner superb!
The food and service are excellent at Buccan. The only criticism I have is that they have the tables way too close together. You can't even get up from the table without bumping into a table/chair next to you. Having a private conversation is out of the question.
Very nice, friendly neighborhood restaurant. Original menu items combining interesting flavors, but not overwhelming.
Two of us shared 5 menu items which are appetizer sizes, perfect for sharing.
The squash blossom rellenos were particularly memorable.
Seating is tight but not uncomfortable.
We celebrated my husbands birthday and overall the meal was enjoyable. We had two dishes that were very disappointing as they were sadly so salty all flavors of the other ingredients in those dishes were a total loss. Also, the risotto was clearly rushed as it was the rice was undercooked and crunchy. The Squid Ink Orecchiette was amazing as was the Steak tartare.
I had the pleasure of dining here for my birthday last week. Everyone recommended it and it did not disappoint. Food was amazing and so were the watermelon martinis!! I had the Octopus Tabbouleh and I'm still raving about it. If you're in the Palm Beach area and can get a reservation I definitely recommend!
This is a very good restaurant, and some dishes are absolutely first rate. The octopus tabouli and the Italian sausage in squid ink were spectacular. The wine selection is also very good. Other dishes, such as tuna sashimi and gussied up hamburgers, are good, but hardly special. The atmosphere is pretty, but doesn't lend itself to intimate conversation, as the distance across a table is greater than the distance to the next table.
Food was excellent, as was the service. Beer selection is not good, but the cocktails were good, but expensive. The place was loud and the tables were close together, but it wasn’t a bad thing. We had the beef epinatas, beef taco, shrimp scampi and corn ravioli. All were fantastic. Key lime pie with coconut ice cream for dessert, which was excellent. Maybe the best food we’ve ever tasted. Wonderful dinner.
We have been to Buccan many times, and it never disappointed until now. The brussels sprout caesar salad which we usually love, was oversalted., and our server who knows us and is usually amazing, told us he would let the chef know, but that was all he did as we had eaten almost half of it.
We had visited another one of their restaurants and had a less than satisfying experience in July and wrote a nice review enhancing the positives but did include a photo of a sagging pizza. The owner , a true star told us his manager would contact us, which he immediately did. He advised us he would “take care of us” the next time we came into any of their restaurants. We let him know of our reservation at Buccan and he did come over and introduce himself, replaced our salad with another which was excellent, and not oversalted. Was that taking care of us?
A glass of wine which would have cost the restaurant next to nothing, would have been immensely appreciated, however we received nothing.
The server too was surprised and must have said something, as the manager called and apologized (after we left )yet again, and said he would text us a gift card and to please return. Thus far we have seen nothing, and the point is not a gift card. It’s that we were not “taken care of” in any way in addition to replacing a salad with one that was up to par.
I’m not sure we will be rushing back any time soon. Management errs when it forgets to take care of the people who helped put them on top by being frequent diners there, posting favorable reviews, and referring Buccan to many friends, clients, and colleagues as well as voting for them as tops over the past few years. We eat out a lot as you can see by the many reviews I have written. We were not looking for a free meal; a glass of wine and “ thank you for coming in” would have been great appreciated and sufficient.
Tried a few new dishes this week. The shrimp Bruschetta was excellent. pretzel tart. The baby kale salad was good except the leaves were huge, but tender. We shared the Chocolate pretzel tart That was amazing. It was ample for two to share. The bitter chocolate was perfect with the sweet and salty.
Suffice to say that we spend winters in the Delray/Boynton area and happily drive to Buccan when we can get a reservation--at least once a week. Coming from Manhattan and having been a food writer in my distant past, I know my way around a dining table in many countries. (We just spent a food-driven week in Asturias, eating at Michelin- and Repsol-rated venues;; my partner told Clay that he liked Buccan better than any of those including some pretty big names!) The fact that we drive so far should be testament enough to the food and ambience created by Clay and his staff. I could go on and on mentioning the servers by name but honestly, there is not a mediocre one in the bunch. Ditto the food. We saw you last Wednesday and will see you this week once more...
