Food served attractively, but not as generous as I remembered, but I know there is inflation. But interesting, these relatives were there 2 nights prior and wanted to go again.
Very tourist driven. Not focused on developing a repeat local client base.
We went to Buca to celebrate Mother's Day. There were a couple of missteps that were immediately corrected by the manager. He was on top of things, owned up to the issue and made things right. This strive towards excellent customer service is why we'll be going back! Food wise, we really enjoyed the Antipasto salad and the Prosciutto stuffed Chicken.
The Buca at Universal City Walk is excellent. This one, in Santa Monica, was awful! Tasteless food coupled with incompetent and apathetic service, makes the Buca di Beppo in Santa Momica a place to avoid at ALL costs.
Large portions. Perfect for sharing. Comfy booths. Great friendly service.
Food was great but unfortunately the service wasn't. We waited a very long time for our food. Waiter was not on point, forgot to put one of our orders in and had to wait even longer. Kids cups we ordered weren't lighting up and our waiter did nothing about it. To make matters worse we were over charged. Will we be going back, probably not to the one in Santa Monica.
Food is great, atmosphere wasnt energetic compared to other local restuarants around the area.
Usually come here on a special occasion. Food was good and service was good. We had a pizza, spaghetti with meat sauce, and broccoli. Server was patient with the picky eaters in the group. Love the full bar and good wine selection.
Family style. Food sharing.
I rarely write reviews, but I would recommend never going here when it's busy. I'll preface that I went here on Christmas day. I've been to Buca multiple times and never had a problem. First off, they ran out of wine glasses and served my friends wine in a champagne flute. Pretty lame and comical, but by no means a huge deal. It took forever and multiple pleas to get silverware, bread, and water. The food also took a really long time and the most frustrating part was that my friend's meal came 20 minutes late. We bascially sat watching our food get cold with an update from our waitress only a few minutes before his meal arrived. Food was average, certainly not memorable. A manager came over to check on us and although she was courteous, she did not offer anything to make up for the experience. Overall, very bad experience, and I give a few stars only based on it being Christmas. Nevertheless, if a restaurant can't handle the volume of customers (short staffed, etc) to provide basic services on a holiday, then they should be closed like every other restaurant.
Even the "small" portions are huge. The gorgonzola salad is truly outstanding.
We wanted a large portion of pasta and sauce. That's exactly what we got. Everyone was super nice. Enjoyable time
Went there for my 16 year old daughter birthday , my daughter and her friends loved it , awesome food , awesome service ,,,,,, would come back again
My son was headed back to Alaska/Elmendorf Airforce Base so I planned for the family to have a nice dinner before dropping him off at the airport. However, when making my reservation, I counted only the ten adults and forgot about the two small children who would be dining with us. The host was very nice and accommodating. We did not have to wait long to be given another table. The meal was delicious as always (so much food and we ordered small plates), the bill reasonable and the service good. The server could have been a little more attentive but overall she was patient and nice (remember we had to small children, ages 4 and 2). Great place for large groups. I will be returning for the next family outing.
We had a party of 6, including 2 children. The family of four had never been here. Everyone was satisfied. it met our expections in taking out-of-town visitors to dinner.
Went with my wife for lunch at Buca di Beppo. The waiter "Gio" (Giovanni) was very kind and efficient. Lasagna, the small one serves two people, is light, delicate, yet presents full flavor. If you have time, you'll find hundreds of interesting old pictures on the walls.
Our group of 13 visited Buca on a busy holiday weekend for dinner. The reservation process was seamless, and the restaurant staff was very accommodating as part of our party arrived quite a bit later than planned. Service was attentive, helpful, and friendly.
Garlic cheese bread is a tasty appetizer, but with tons of raw garlic, so beware. On the upside, no one in your party will fear a cold, or vampires, for weeks after eating it! The salad and entrees were very good and everyone enjoyed it - apple gorgonzola salad, chicken saltimbocca, spicy chicken pasta, prosciutto-stuffed chicken parmesan and pasta marinara. Everyone enjoyed all of it. We then topped off the evening with an extra large brownie sundae birthday celebration for one of the friends in our group.
This location is fairly busy, and the noise can be loud at times, so if you are looking for a quiet conversation spot, this is not it. If you are looking for reliable Buca di Beppo tasty food and a lively atmosphere , this is the place.
Good, classic Italian fare. Always love the decor, and the service is spot on. We had the chicken and capers dish, and most of our party suffered from too much salt, so I'd stick with something more pasta-based next time. Week nights are quiter, so the noise level was good, and the kids could roam and look at the pictures.
We've had server Yvette several times. Very knowledgeable, attentive, and delightful personality. Food is simply prepared, tasty and servings are huge. Green beans were undercooked this day, but still not bad. Just not the usual great.
I took an out of town guest to the Buca di Peppo in Santa Monica and decided it will probably be the last time I go. It was one of the few restaurants we liked in the area and we were very disappointed. We asked to be sat in the booths inside the bar area, because the carpet stinks in the other 2 rooms. They really should to replace it. Seated in a booth we ordered and received our salad before our appetizer. We had to ask for silverware to eat with and no salad plates were served. We ended up having to serve our salad on the small bread plates. Next, I had to ask if our appetizer was coming and it came out after the salad, was cold and looked nothing like it did on the menu. Finally, our entrees came out and one of them was slightly burned. While eating, I think the air conditioning suddenly went off as all of us started sweating profusely. We asked for refills on our beverages and ended up asking a second time before getting something to drink. The photographer came over for a complimentary picture and basically ordered my wife how to pose for a photo even though she wanted a different pose.
I was on the fence before about going back to Buca di Peppo, but thought it my be fun for our guest. Boy was I wrong!
It was my son 5th birthday, we love this place family friendly, great service, great food so much food, large portions, we had a great table as well. Waitress was winderful, Alysha was her name.
Our waitress, Yvette, was fabulous. She not only recommended great dishes for our party of 8, but she served them hot, and checked on us constantly to refill our drinks, see if we needed more bread, or whatever. We were celebrating a 95th birthday, and they came with a huge candle and a huge sundae. We will recommend this place to our friends.
Buco so Beppo donated $150 gift cards to First Star charity for abused and neglected children and I was lucky enough to be the highest bidder for the gift cards in the auction. I didn't know what to expect when we went there last night, but I know what I will be ordering again when we take our grown children there next month!
Maybe an offnight at this location, but if not they need more help. Food was just ok, but service almost non existent. Maybe try another location before writing Bucca off your list.
Love everything about Buca di Beppo... Great place to celebrate and to take kids
The food is always great at any Buca, so that was not a surprise. I did find the seating at this location to be very close together, too close - like what you would find at a fast food restaurant , so it wasn't ideal for a romantic dinner like I have experienced at other, more spread out Buca locations. When seated, there was literally no room for anyone to pass behind my chair and the chair directly behind me. There was about an inch of space between the chairs. Also, the waitress wasn't as attentive as she should have been. She was friendly when taking the order, but she didn't come back often enough as one would expect at a nicer restaurant such as this. We sat with empty drinks for far longer than we should have.
aside from the fact the host did not credit properly my open table points we spent 40 minutes trying to find a parking spot, we almost gave up. we did get a table in the front bar area that we like as it doesn't usually have the loud family groups or parties going on so you can enjoy dinner better. however the seats are lumpy, low and uncomfortable in the booths. the food is alittle pricey but you get a lot for the money and its always good. the sever was ok, nice and did not ignore us but seemed bored. we appreciated the free birthday dessert. if it was in a better less touristy location with parking wed recommend,
it is very insulting to have 3 different tables being waited on and served first before our table. We were not looking at our menus, we had to flag down a waitress to take our order. We also had to self serve some items like red crushed pepper off the table next to us because we never saw our waitress. I will not be back to this location.
Whe were waiting from last year to came to bucca. In fact i made the reservatiom 6 month ago.
Whe came always to bucca ( whe live in Argentina) when we came to LA.
But this time the guy that was serving our table was realy realy bad. For example, we eat the dessert whit all the food that we eat on the table. We ask him to take out but he did not listen .......etc. He never look to us. We have to call other guy that call him. Whe have the food on the table but did no have the things to eat (knife etc)
For him we where not at Bucca
I believe Im not the profile for this restaurant. You need to improve your kitchen, beverage and service.
Bucca du Beppo has been a favorite of mine since my kids took me here for my birthday several years ago. Food is always delicious - huge huge portions - family style. Always some to take home.
Arrive early, especially if members of your party are arriving independently- parking can be rough !! It would be nice if they validated for parking, but they don't.
When we first arrived, there was what appeared to be water on two of the chairs... but it turned out to be some form of sticky, clear soda. After the waitress returned with a towel to wipe it off, we found out it was also all over the side of the table cloth AND on three of our party's clothing. The table cloth was wiped down, a "sorry" was issued, but no other accommodations were offered... I would have thought free beverages or SOMETHING might be in order, seeing as everyone only order iced tea, soda or sparkling water.
When the restaurant is busy, expect service to be a bit slow... our beverage orders were taken quickly, but it took awhile to get them delivered. Appetizer orders were also taken quickly, but a bit of a wait there as well.
We were in "the Pope Room", large round table for 12. PLENTY of space and the table had a lazy Susan, which was handy... but we had to ask *4* times to have 'the Pope head" removed from the center of the table... we couldn't see each other with it there!
The entree order was taken while we were waiting for appetizers, and the pasta was delivered in a fairly reasonable amount of time...but the eggplant and chicken park took FOREVER.
I had high expectations.. Very high expectations. BUT sadly, the food wasn't the best. I was hoping the spaghetti and meatballs would blow me off my seat but I felt like there wasn't enough sauce. It was too dry. For the price I paid. I couldve just microwave some at home. The garlic bread was dry too.
Though the service was great. The waiter explained how big the plates were (which was very helpful) I still wasn't amazed at Buca.. AND it was father day.. So I wasn't happy with the food. I ended up at chipotle right after.
santa monica food portions for kids is for 2 year olds. My kids are not even big eaters and they portions were way tooooo small. i mean the pasta dish was literally a palm size! its just pasta for goodness sake!
It was very crowded. There were ten of us seated very close together. It was very hot and extremely noisy. If it was not so crowded and cooler it would have been a much better experience.
We have been here many times, however, this was not our best dining experience at our neighborhood Buca di Beppo. We love this restaurant but were very disappointed when we went there to celebrate my son's high school graduation.
We started with the Fried Calamari, which was delicious, the Mozzarella Caprese which was unusually salty and the Artichoke Florentine Dip that turned out to be thin and runny like a sauce instead of a dip. The mixed green salad, however, was excellent as was the Garlic Bread. For the main course we ordered Eggplant Parmigiana which was unusually tough and light on the mozzarella cheese. The Chicken Marsala was cooked to perfection although it was overly sweet and tasted like teriyaki chicken. The Veal Saltimbocca was tasty yet overcooked and difficult to cut with a steak knife. Veal should never be tough. The Chicken Carbonara is a delicious pasta dish but was very dry, lacking much of the Alfredo sauce. We requested additional Alfredo sauce to help it out. On the positive side, we were seated immediately and our wait staff was very attentive. Overall, a poor dining experience.
We were a party of 9 with reservations. Seated promptly and excellent service throughout our dinner.
We had lunch there on a Wed afternoon. Food and service were great.
Make sure you get a waitress that knows what she's doing.
