First time visit to celebrate my husbands birthday and we were not disappointed! We were instantly impressed with the laid back friendly atmosphere, and we're shown to our seats, overlooking the bay and stunning scenery, beautiful, even on a wet & windy November afternoon. The menu is reasonably priced for the quality of food being served - we had the burger with homemade slaw and the plaice with mushrooms, leeks and capers.. Both excellent... But the desserts were the star of the show for us! The baked alaska is probably the best we've had at a restaurant in N. Wales!
The only slight negative was the amount of time we waited for our dessert, just under 30 minutes, but it was a Monday afternoon, not that busy, so lthere would be more staff on busier days. However, it won't put us off returning again. Very soon.......
Good service, but food wasn’t as nice as I remembered
Had a lovely meal here last Saturday . Food excellent.
Plenty of space between tables .
Left late to book and very fortunate to get a table as very busy lunchtime and a large party booked in for afternoon tea.
Service excellent as ever and food was outstanding, whether it’s lunch, afternoon tea or evening we’ve always received excellent service and food and will without doubt return when we’re next in the area.
Was good food, couldn’t complain apart from portion size...
bit of a strange setup as it’s part of the council building.
Excellent meal on Saturday. Soup was gorgeous and steak fantastic. Made me not care that the bread was, as usual, disappointing. Service attentive and professional. Menu seems to have improved.
Lovely fresh food, nice decor, pleasant staff timely service & reasonable price for quality
Living in the area and because if the limited menu, it does restrict the number of visits to be made in a year due to the limited menu which doesn’t appear to change, even with the changing seasons.
One criticism from one of the party, who is a chef himself, was that he would expect home prepared and cooked chips from a prestigious establishment.
Food was delicious, particularly the confit duck. Washed down with a smooth Sanguiovese. Service was excellent. Views over Colwyn Bay beach. Couldn't have asked for more. Highly recommended.
Terric in every sense, attentive service, great food well cooked and reasonably priced, nothing to criticise whatsoever. We will definitely go back.
Situated in a great position with lovely views over the beach. Welcoming staff and exceptional food. Visited previously and will visit again when we return to North Wales.
Took some friends as they had never been there, they were also impressed with food and staff, Thankyou
Everything was superb
Stunning location and wonderful food. We had the set menu which was unbelievable vale for the quality of the food - great experience and just very sorry that we do not live near enough for this to be our regular restaurant but so hope to visit again - thank you for a memorable meal!
Stunning location, great food and super friendly staff. Breakfast here is just perfect and the Baked Alaska is out of this world. So lucky to have this on my doorstep.
Bryn produces a variation on classic dishes. The plaice was expertly flavoured with shrimps and salad dressing. The Alaska was one of the best deserts I’ve ever had. A treat for any couple or family.
Excellent food. The Baked Alaska was out of this world!
This place is not fine dining, rubber squid, overdone ,hard to peel prawns, overdone..brioche bun dry inside, burgers were warm in middle and cold on edges and to top it off the fries were from the freezer!!!! More kitchen staff than dinners at the time so why can't they par boil potatoes and fry them up, overpriced, no warm welcome we definatly won't go back
Bloody gorgeous 👏👏👏thanks 😍 my 2nd visit & already recommended to many friends.
This was our 3rd visit to the restaurant since it opened. The first 2 times (more than 12 months ago) we received awful service but great food. On those occasions we didn't complain because it's not in our nature. This time it was opposite, the waitresses were great & handled the situation really well but the food was awful. We had fish pie for 2, the fish was tasteless & the mash was watery. The waitress replaced the fish pie with haddock for my wife & fish fingers for me, the haddock was raw & the fish fingers were overcooked & dry & we only ate the chips that came with the fish fingers. Again the situation was handled really well but we left hungry & disappointed on my wife's birthday.
I went with my husband and having read past reviews was a little hesitant but needn’t have worried! The food was tasty, of good quality and enjoyable, we would definitely recommend and we will be back
Lovely ambience and it is lovely to meet friends there as the tables are very private. Food is very good
Fabulous lunch at a lovely location with views across the bay and out to sea. The atmosphere is very relaxed and the decor is more industrial than intimate. Cooking is very good and the Baked Alaska was probably the best I have ever had. We’ll be looking for an excuse to go back!
Great location, good views, close to the train station. Good food and service. Very enjoyable day out on the train from the Wirral as part of our Honeymoon celebrations.
Although we've been past it several times we never knew it was a restaurant so this was our first visit after reading on Facebook that it had won an award. Overall, we did enjoy the meal and we would go back but the meal did not stand out as award winning. My husband had the ham hock which he found quite bland but he loved the steak pie which was a special on the day. I had the salt & pepper squid which I loved and then the fish fingers which were a bit ordinary (fish maybe a bit on the dry side but I loved the crushed peas). We did enjoy the whole experience, the place itself, the staff, the ambience and you can't fault the way the food is cooked and presented but in terms of flavour it just seemed a bit lacklustre and if the restaurant is award winning, it should stand out from the crowd and other similar priced restaurants in North Wales.
I love this place, the food is consistently good & menu is season appropriate. The staff are friendly & polite. There is always a nice atmosphere as there is enough background noise so that you can talk without whispering or having to shout! Great balance, thank you!
Great table with view of crashing waves
Although not Sunday lunchtime diners it was a birthday celebration so we made an exception
The menu offered a good variety of possibilities
Freshly prepared food , good service , altogether a happy experience
We have dined at Somerset House, doesn’t quite command the spectacular view......
Excellent food and service. Tried the evening set menu for the first time and it was great. We will be back!
Could not fault our experience everything was excellent, the location, the staff, the food and the service were all top notch.
This was a big disappointment as we had been looking forward to lunch at this restaurant as the reviews were generally very good and then we read they had won AA Welsh restaurant of the year.
The setting is lovely with the views of Bae Colwyn and the sea. The decor is modern and apart from the awful artificial flowers creates an informal atmosphere.
The big let down was the food, for Brasserie food this was very average.
I had prawns for a starter which were fine but not better and could have done with some bread to mop up the juices.
My burger was over cooked, dry and didn’t appear to have been seasoned added to which my bun was burnt and I could taste the charcoal. The coleslaw and fries were ok but no better than average.
The coffee on the other hand, once Ingot one without chocolate on top, was delicious as was the Eton Mess.
As we live an hours drive way we will certainly not make the trip again.
Having been a big fan of Odettes for many years this was a let down.
Food great as usual, had a lovely time with a friend, thank you
Lovely afternoon spent on the veranda overlooking the sea, could of been anywhere in the Med! food was lovely, service great, thoroughly recommend
Couldn’t fault it, delicious food in a lovely setting. Will definitely return.
Underwhelmed and a little disappointed. Couldn’t order off the midweek set menu as there were no gluten free starters or desserts. Ordered off the full price menu. I had let them know when booking that I required gluten free. This was confirmed on arrival by front of house, but not conveyed to the waiter. I would generally do this myself but as front of house had confirmed and this is Michelin class dining.....Anyway, ordered the mussels. Very nice sauce with them. Came with a slice of bread. Asked if it was gf. No. GF bread offered. Didn’t appear. Apologies from waiter. Many mussels were barely open. Waiter assured me that they were OK to eat. As opening them required some force with the supplied spoon ( not open enough to get the tines of a fork in) and thereby splashing myself with the nice cream sauce, I declined. Mains was chicken supreme. Pleasant enough, More like Hunters chicken than chicken supreme and not piping hot, butOK enough to not send back. OH had steak. More like medium than medium rare as ordered. Whole bill consisting 2 starters, 2 mains, 1 small side of fries and 3 drinks between us came to just over £70.
In summary, don’t expect amazing and you will be OK. Best to eat off the set price menu if you can because otherwise overpriced. Setting, looking over the beach is lovely, but you can sit on the prom to enjoy that. We won’t be going again.
We had a wonderful time meal was excellent the staff were very friendly and attentive couldn't rate it high enough
Great food, incredible view and very fast, nice and attentive service. We had a pea mint soup and shrimps as starters, then the fish pie and finished with the baked Alaska. Everything was delicious.
What let the experience down was that the "mixed" vegetables turned out to be a bowl of spinach or chard - very disappointed.
I was lucky enough to be given a window table (which is very rare and much appreciated because in many restaurants single diners seem to be considered a nuisance and non-profit-worthy, so are usually seated next to the kitchen service door or in a far corner...). A genuinely warm welcome, with slick, professional but very friendly service. Excellent lunch menu, excellent quality and really excellent value-for money...
Location is just amazing but food just did not hot the spot for me. It feels slightly overpriced and the flavours just tasted abit bland. Staff were lovely though and the interior was so pretty!
Excellent vegetarian Risotto and a perfect Eton Mess. The salmon and the lemon desert were also very tasty. Soda bread was a very welcome addition to the meal. Only very slight downside was far too many courgettes! They were with both of the main meals and also in the seasonal vegetable side - but it was seasonal I suppose. The lady who took our payment was very positive and friendly and told us quite a bit about the organisation of the restaurant which was interesting. The bill was as expected, but we do find the drinks expensive.
