About Brunello Trattoria
The married team of Cinzia and Bruno Morra came to the United States in 1985 with the intention to share their culture with Los Angeles. Today,the family opened up Brunello Trattoria and expands their empire to the eastern edge of Culver City to turn out solid southern Italian food. Cinzia, the chef, manages the kitchen and prepares fresh pasta sauces that are made to order and Bruno and son, Daniele run the dining room. Pictures of Naples give the restaurant a traditional feel, while the central bar offers a social dining option. Brunello Trattoria Ratings and Reviews
The place was small, but nice Italian place. I went there for the DineLA event and I ordered really nice pasta for only $15. They're also one of the only places here in southern California that I've seen with Ferrarelle water which is not common but speaks to the authenticity of this place.
Came here for dineLA but was quickly distracted by the real menu. We had the beef carpaccio appetizer, I had the lobster ravioli special (best ravioli I’ve ever had). He had the chicken Daniele. YUM. We shared everything, So satisfying! As a person that travels to Italy every year, I have the say this is the real deal here. Fresh pasta, perfected sauces...It’s hard to choose what you want to eat because it seems you can’t go wrong! Hospitality was a perfect 10 as well. I think I’ve found a new favorite spot ;)
The pasta and the beef carpaccio we're amazing especially with a glass of Chianti. Don't forget to finish off your meal with their special desserts and a cappuccino. The service was very attentive and helpful in making a selection for both food and wine. My date and I were both pleased.
As part of the DineLA experience, I decided to take the wife to a local establishment highly touted by food critics as one of Culver City’s up and coming eateries.
East of Main Street and the downtown restaurant row, in a residential area of historic Culver City where the Industry and film studios intertwine is Brunello Trattoria a quintessential Italian brasserie. Here, the host resembles an older renaissance man and the food servers are donned in the traditional black apron with white linen shirts.
The atmosphere is that of a quaint bistro in Italy.
We were greeted by our server who immediately informed us of the specials for the evening as well as the DineLA experience which showcased their signature dishes. The DineLA menu would be offering three courses for the evening and we opted for this choice.
My wife had the Insalata di Gamberi shrimp salad and I chose the Portobello Mushroom E Pepperoni with burrata cheese for starters; both were exquisite, fresh and tasty. They drizzle sweet balsamic vinegar on the burrata which woke up this normally mild mozzarella to a more cheesy flavor yet keeping a smooth, creamy finish.
I chose the Paccheri Aragosta for my next course which is thin ribbons of pasta in a cream sauce with pieces of lobster whereas the pieces are small, the overall taste is...amazing. The Mrs. had the Braciolette di Pollo alla Marsala which is a roulee (chicken breast roll) with a goat cheese and spinach stuffing in a marsala sauce which she said,…very, very tasty. Our desserts were picked from the dessert tray of the night and I had the white chocolate and strawberry gelato; the wife had the three layered cake…all exquisitely created perfectly to compliment the end of a wonderful culinary experience.
Kudos to DineLA and the chefs and staff of Brunellos Trattoria; we will definitely re-visit outside of the DineLA experience as we will chalk this restaurant as one more of our dining delight locales.
food, as always, was outstanding. The value for the Dine LA restaurant week menu, was excellent. However, service was distressingly slow, and that was unfortunate. I have eaten at Brunello before and I expect I will again, but I will avoid peak crowd times.
We visited Brunello Trattoria for the first time during DineLA. The restaurant has been in business for ten years, but for us it was a wonderful discovery! Everything, from our salads, to the piping hot bread, to dessert, was delicious. The entrees (a bowtie pasta with salmon and Paccheri all’Aragosta -- rigatoni with lobster meat) were exquisitely prepared. We look forward to returning often to this low-key, family-run restaurant.
Comfortable, relaxed atmosphere. A bit noisy for my taste and hearing ability in my 60s. Server was wonderful, attentive, unobtrusive, helpful. I had a pasta dish with salmon a special that night. It was delicious. My husband enjoyed the Oso buco. Our friends loved the pear spinach salad. I would definitely return. We had a lovely evening.
I must've driven by this restaurant a hundred times and never noticed it before. So glad I found it on Open Table while looking for a Culver City restaurant. The good was good and reasonable. I think one reason why is because they scrimp on the more pricey ingredients. If you order linguine vongole, for example, you'll get like 10 small clams in our entree. However, all the dishes were delicious. I'd go back.
I have eaten here twice before and loved it. We went on a Sunday when my brother was in town from NY. Perhaps it was so bad because it was a Sunday but the service was neglectful. The salad was wilted and brown. My Sister in Law ordered chicken and it was flat, and grilled and dry-she didn't eat it. Four people at the table ordered a pasta and they would not leave grated cheese on the table when we asked. They came back with a small dish with a tablespoon of grated cheese for the four of us! They were out of ice cream and tiramisu (highly disappointing). They wanted to remove plates from the table when some were finished and others were still eating (very rude-it rushes everyone). I won't go back again. Their pasta is fabulous, but the salad, chicken and unavailability of the desserts was disappointing.
Unfortunately the glowing reviews are completely undeserved. Food is inexpensive and portions are large, but candidly this restaurant is ordinary at best and some of the dishes were downright bad. Wanted to like it, and had high hopes given the reviews, but it is quite mediocre.
This was a first visit and won't be the last. It was a very nice and cozy spot with great ambiance. The table was waiting when we arrived and the host was very friendly as well. The service was outstanding and the food was fresh and very delicious. The caprese salad was very fresh with a nice hint of basil and balsamic vinegar. We also tried the gluten free penne with spinach and mushrooms which was cooked just right. The salmon risotto was incredible with a unique flavor of its own. The meal was topped off with a hot chocolate souffle. I passed this place a lot and never knew what I was missing, but always saw the crowd in front. Now it will be on my list of favorite Italian spots to dine. Only thing that was missing was a cocktail before dinner; they only sale beer and wine. No biggie! We brought our own wine and the corkage was very reasonable.
