Brown's Beach House - The Fairmont Orchid - Kohala Coast
This was in the top 5 of the most amazing meals I’ve ever had. We sat facing the beach at sunset. We ordered off the 3 course menu. There was a local guitarist playing excellent music. It was perfection. This is a must-do while on the island.
It was a birthday dinner for my husband. Our server, Alice, was very helpful.
We loved the musician and our waiter Christian was absolutely fabulous! The sunset was wonderful as was the food.
Ate here on our last night in Hawaii and celebrated our 25th anniversary. The setting is incredible, overlooking the ocean and we had a front row table to watch the beautiful sunset. Our server, Radim, was great. He recommended wines and entrees and explained the menu items. He and the rest of the staff were always around and checking to make sure everything was OK. We ordered a 3-course special, app, entree and dessert for $75 a person. The special actually had all of the items we were interested in, so it was a good deal. We had ahi poke and Kona prawns for appetizer. Both were great. For entree we had the King Crab Crusted Kampachi and the Ka'u Coffee Venison. Both we excellent. For dessert, we had a pineapple panna cotta and a Kona mud pie with a happy anniversary message written in chocolate. Again both we great. Overall, this was one of the best meals we have had at any restaurant It is pricey, but the setting, service, views, and the food are definitely worth it.
My wife and I found that Browns beach house was outstanding for a romantic evening out. We feel that they should stick to resort style casual. Some people were in regular tee shirts. We enjoyed our dinners and the service staff took very good care of us. Very romantic setting on the beach.
Drinks and food were amazing - they even did a surprise dessert for us for our 25th anniversary. Our server was fantastic and the ocean side location with live music was perfect.
The service was amazing! The ambiance was spectacular with Hawaiian sunset, plan trees and water. Did I mention the turtles and manta rays? Highly recommend Browns. Our best dining experience in the two weeks we were on the Big Island
We got engaged last night and we had the best meal here!!!!
Overpriced and basic/average food. Pretty to sit on the patio but was disappointed at the quality of food. Especially for what we paid. Our server was incredibly nice though.
It’s a shame to waste a venue like Brown’s on a business dinner but it was an excellent place to talk. The food and service were outstanding! Looking forward to coming back soon.
Radim, our host, was excellent and the food just as superb. One of the best spots to dine on the Big Island each year!
Unfortunately, my food went back three times. That's never happened to me before EVER. First time, the fish was cold, second the crab that was supposed to be on the fish was absent. Before saying that I would like to continue eating but would appreciate the crab (my favourite) just being brought, my plate was scooped away. The third time it was literally pink and raw inside. It was our 10 year anniversary. It was said in the reservation and nothing special took place. Not a huge deal, but it took an hour to get my meal the third time! Then another 25 minutes for the waitress to take our card to process. TOO LONG! Ambience was amazing! Music was amazing! Food was compt, but I didn't go there for a free meal that took almost 3 hours. We were there for our honeymoon ten years ago, so to celebrate our 10th anniversary was a major disappointment.
Very disappointed with the service and food. Overpriced!!
Outstanding meal in a beautiful setting. Excellent service
We were celebrating a special anniversary for our parents who were joining us for the evening, total party of six. I stated this in reservation and also to the hostess who asked if we were celebrating anything special. Parents never received a happy anniversary or dessert like we have in the past. Service was slow but was high quality when it was received. My husband and I have been to Browns many times the last few years and this past time was a disappointment.
Amazing ambience right by the beach. Beautifully plated and delicious food. And the sunset is perfect.
Great location, good cocktails and friendly service. The appetizer platter was a great way to sample a number of dishes using locally sourced ingredients. However, The main (seafood lau lau) was frankly disappointing for what I had expected would be a great local specialty. The flavor had been largely removed from the fish and scallops and the brown rice accompanying it was too plain to make up for it. Also the wonderful ambiance was somewhat spoiled by letting a couple in swim shorts and bikini top sit down for dinner.
Perfect sunset on the beach with Hawaiian music serenade. The shrimp are full of flavor. The kampachi melts in your mouth followed by the amazing truffle potatoes. The venison was tender and a nice change from beef. The panna cotta special was a light dessert to finish the meal with Kona coffee French pressed. Walked out to see the turtles and manta rays in the bay.
Steak was tough and grizzly. Fish was over cooked and very fishy...especially the crab. Dessert was awful!
Everything was superb-the atmosphere, the food, and service. Be sure and have the shrimp appetizer and the pineapple creme brûlée.
The price tag for this place is off the charts...but you are paying for the spectacular outdoor seating and top notch service. We were celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary and thought, "to hell with it...spend the money". Which we did! Over $500 in total. Food was fantastic. I tilted my head back to watch the beautiful swaying palm trees above my head. I had the margarita...absolutely delicious. All four of us loved what we each ordered.
Excellente restaurant, serveur attentionné, cuisine exceptionnelle, nous avons avons apprécié le cadre enchanteur au bord de l'océan.
Food, service and view was wonderful as we celebrated our 42nd anniversary
Two previous occasions the dining experie
The food was mediocre. Very limited menu, and overpriced. I ordered the tuna for my entree and it was a very small piece and I still felt hungry afterwards. Although I thought the ambiance was very nice- outdoor seating with tranquil music. The service was excellent but I personally wouldn’t go back.
Great for dates or special occasions. Adult atmosphere
amazing views, great food, and service. We will be back.
FAVORITE restaurant ever! Hands down!
Awesome service! Awesome views! Great way to end our Hawaii vacation.
Good service (not a lot of people at restaurant). Good
location (on beach). Food quite average with above average prices.
Great experience. Knowledgeable server, great view, wonderful food.
My wife and I live in Mauna Lani, and dine at Browns Beach House as much as possible. Even though we know everybody there they make everyone feel special, especially if you're on vacation. As residents each and every time we arrive we are treated with kindness, respect and the true Aloha spirit. Browns beach house right now is in an all time superior rhythm with new manager Raymond who has a great demeanor, Chef Alejandro at the helm who is incredibly talented. and of course the waiters , servers ,and hosts who all go beyond to make your dining experience memorable. Waiters such as Alice, Bruce, Frank and the whole team will make everybody feel special. However on this particular night it was my wife's birthday and Chef Alejandro and our waiter Alice which we know both very well created a night, and a luxurious dinner that we will never forget. It is so refreshing to see Browns Beach House operating beyond a five-star level with cuisine that even as residence , who go there quite often , simply amazed us. Chef Alejandro with the new menu he has put together is absolutely remarkable. Alice our waitress , as always, is incredible. Even though we are friends with most of the wait staff we watch them treat all the vacationers with extreme kindness and Aloha spirit. We feel that the waiters and servers are often overlooked as they not only have their eyes on the diners every need, but also on the cuisine . As it stands they are now functioning as a team and it seems that the kitchen is now listening to the waiters, and servers. Every part of the Browns Beach House team is important, and no one person should be overlooked as everything from a smile from a hostess, an Aloha greeting, and excellent cuisine by Chef Allijandro with his skilled chefs all matters. All waiters , along with the entire staff are all important and unique working within positions making Browns highly efficient in all aspects. Mahalo & Aloha!!
We loved our view of the ocean and the torch-lighting ceremony at sunset. The service was friendly and very efficient, and everyone was happy with their meal... not always easy with a table for 10! We had been here 10 years earlier and loved it then... we were not disappointed this time and will definitely be back.
We absolutely loved it!! It was beautiful setting! The service was exceptional ! The food was delicious! We would highly recommend to anyone.
It was very good - but even though this reservation was made a month in advance - why is it that we were given a less desirable table location when there were many available in a much better location?
I didn't expect the food to be as good as it was. The chef here is doing it! Service and ambiance can't get any better.
