Brown's Beach House - The Fairmont Orchid - Kohala Coast Ratings and Reviews
Recent vacation stay on the Big Island lead to dinner at Brown’s Beach House.Great view with lovely sunset, sparkling wine the the best opah! My husband loved his ahi as well but agreed I chose the best dish. Appetizer ahi and avocado poke also delicious. Our waiter was helpful, knew menu well and provided great service. Would return weekly if lived close by, but will return next trip
This was among our best dining experiences ever. Everything about our evening at Brown's Beach House was beyond excellent. We thought we had eaten in some great restaurants over the years, and indeed we have, but Brown's is a cut above the rest. Not to be missed!
We were celebrating our Anniversary and wanted something delicious and extra special.
This place did not disappoint us! The food was delicious, views were breath taking and live music to top it off. Thank you for making our last night on the island so special and a dinner we won't forget .
Our 50th Anniversary brought us here for dinner. A very nice evening overlooking the lawn and ocean. The food was very good but falls short of being called "outstanding." The service was very friendly though I judged it to be a little too casual for an upscale restaurant. We certainly will go back.
Lovely sunset meal with friends. We'd been here a few other times over the years, and Browns never disappoints. Get there early for a table that has a perfect view of the sunset and the Orchid's nightly conch shell horn and tiki lightning. Chicken with risotto was sublime.
We made a reservation here for our first night in Hawaii on our honeymoon and received fantastic treatment. We were seating in a great spot to view the live music and they even gave us complimentary drinks. We would definitely eat there the next time we're at the Orchid.
The ambience and setting are unsurpassed. The service was very attentive and knowledgeable. The opah was pleasantly sauced however was overcooked, and possibly not quite as fresh as one would expect. Overall the food certainly did not live up to the price. Drinks and wine choices were very good.
My husband and I enjoyed our 10 year anniversary dinner here while we were on our trip. I did not disappoint. The sunset was amazing, the service was great and the food was delicious. They even surprised us with a sweet dessert and a message written on the plate in chocolate.
I would definitely recommend this place!
Browns Beach House has an amazing dining room -- it sits outside facing the west where you watch a beautiful sunset with your meal! The waitstaff was very professional and attentive, and the meals were as you would expect for fine dining -- all fresh, prepared perfectly and served in a timely fashion. What brings us back to Browns is the setting -- there are very few it's equal, so combine that with real delicious local cuisine and you'll be very satisfied.
The restaurant is located at the Fairmont Orchid - a stunning hotel/restaurant right on the beach that is great for sunset viewing if you get there really early for a front row table. The food was excellent - my husband had the seared ahi and I had the chicken entree. We felt the service was timed a bit slow so you would order an extra drink - but we had a lovely dinner and would highly recommend it.
We went to Brown's on our last night on the Big Island, a Thursday, with a party of four at 6:30PM. As with our previous visits to Brown's, the location and ambiance at sunset are extraordinary. Three of us ordered their chicken with risotto. The other, one of the fish dinners. In general, the mains were well prepared, nicely plated, and served hot. While our server was reasonably attentive, the kitchen was slow. Two of the party had salads to start. It was an hour from the time our orders were placed until the mains were served. It was at least 30 minutes from the time the salads were cleared and the mains were served. Regarding the chicken dinners, the chicken was tasty and moist. The risotto while tasty, was soupy, not a great presentation. One additional note, the Caesar salad was remarkable in that there was so little of it. It appeared as three leaves of romaine looking lonely on a small plate. While I am not a fan of salad bowl sized portions, this was shocking given a $14 price tag. Really?
