Brown's Beach House - The Fairmont Orchid - Kohala Coast
Great exsperience from start to finish. We had a great table overlooking the shoreline. The waiter was profesional, nice and knowledgeable. Food and drinks were amazing. The solo live music was a great touch. Would definitely return.
Anniversary. As usual, it was wonderful. In spite of the wind, we had a great meal with great service. The location is spectacular and the sights are beautiful.
Wonderful sunset started off our family dinner, a memorable evening indeed.
A fabulous last night on the big island! We couldn't have asked for better food or a better setting!
Brown's is the best restaurant we have been to on the Big Island. Admittedly, the visuals are stunning, but the quality of food and service is a match for the physical beauty of this outdoor restaurant. Sunset here is not to be missed.
Beautiful setting, very good food. Was turned off a bit when the busboys started stripping tables near us while we were eating, especially since there were other people dining and it was before closing. Chef was very nice and we enjoyed chatting with her about the meal.
The sunset views were spectacular. The musician was quite good, and a number of people danced. As for the food, it was excellent. I started with the roasted garlic and cilantro prawns, which included bits of onion and tomatoes. The dish was very tasty and came with crostini. For my entree, I selected the Ka’u coffee venison. It was served with a tamarind sauce and lots of carrots. The venison itself was delicious and very tender. The carrots and carrot purée did not add much to the dish. For dessert, I had the Itakuja chocolate dome. It was served with a carmelized cacao nib and lilikoi (I.e., passion fruit) sorbet. The textures and flavors worked extremely well together. The bread selection for the evening was nice. Anne was my server, and she was very attentive and personable.
Service was excellent, view was perfect, food was delicious, entertainment was excellent- great experience! Would definitely come back.
Excellent food with an awesome sunset!! They also had live music.
Great view of the beaches but a bit of a track to get there staff were fantastic
Beautiful beach location, attentive staff gave excellent service, delicious meal. A little pricey
The food was delicious. We ate filet mignon and kampachi fish; however, for the price, the portion sizes seemed to be on the small side, especially when compared Roy's. Desert was spectacular: Itakuja chocolate dome and pineapple creme brulee!
This is one of our favorite restaurants in the Islands. The people are warm and gracious, the setting is gorgeous (especially at sunset!) and the food is consistently excellent. We especially loved the different kinds of bread, the grilled kampachi, the venison and all of the desserts. Nice wine choices too. We hope to return many times!
If you want an upscale, outdoors Hawaiian dining experience I don't think you can beat this. The setting is like a postcard. The service matches the quality of the setting. It is not inexpensive but not exorbitant either. This was second time we were there and if in the area again we'd go back in a heartbeat.
It was a little windy last night so we sat right inside the shelter. The meal was expensive but everything we had was excellent. The service was good. We will definitely go back again.
Great dinner with excellent service. All entree’s were terrific. 3 of us had the Ono special, one had the lamb chops. All entries were great. Christian, our waiter was friendly, knowledgeable and had a great sense of humor. I would highly recommend Brown’s
Birthday dinner for my husband
We went here for our 10 year anniversary celebration and it was outstanding! The ambiance, the server, the music, the food and the sunset all made for a perfectly romantic evening. Highly recommend this for a special evening!!
There was a party going on in the lawn area with loud music that ruined the atmosphere a bit. We should have chosen a different entre - the locally farmed white fish was dense and heavy and had an odd flavor, and the presentation was not at all elegant. Beet salad was lovely and looked very pleasing. Good wine list with nice choices. As with all higher end Hawaii restaurants, it is very pricey for what you get but there are not many fine dining options to choose from. So it is better than some, but could use a bit more focus to produce truly fine dining.
Great steak,clams and lobster
Excellent food and excellent location. Beautiful music and sounds of the waves crashing.
View was incredible. Service was impeccable. The food was delicious and beautifully prepared
Great ambiance, food and and dessert! Live music was nice!
The mai Tais were disappointing. Seemed watered down
Excellent meal, beautiful ambiance. I highly recommend this restaurant. Music was excellent.
The food is wonderful. Don't miss this when you come. Beautiful setting, excellent staff. Love this place.
We had a wonderful anniversary dinner at Brown’s Beach House. Alice was our server and was exceptional. She was extremely knowledgeable about the food preparation and gave excellent advice and recommendations. We had a ocean front table and there was an entertainer singing a wonderful mix of music. The grounds were torch lite and beautiful. We both enjoyed Kampachi with crab topping. It is a fish we were not real familiar with but were happy with our choice. The hotel presented our free dessert inscribed with our special anniversary message on the plate. The wine selection was very good as well. Thoroughly enjoyed the evening.
An outstanding experience. Wonderful and interestingly presented food served by our exceptional server Christian at a sunset table on the lanai. What more could one ask for?
Wonderful place to enjoy fine food and service!!
Wonderful view of ocean, live singer, and great food. If you’re staying the Fairmont, make a res !
Mediocre, overpriced food. The service, while fine, wasn't exceptional enough to warrant the price. Pretty view though restaurant, itself, is overly simple.
The food was slightly worse than mediocre. If you are looking for midrange to fine dining, beware of the overpriced resort food! The restaurant sits on the Pacific Ocean and yet they can’t do fish. The pork belly was a solid block of fat, quickly seared and “decorated” with colorful things. Great for instagram, terrible for my mouth.
Due to rain, the restaurant seatings were in Orchid Court where breakfast is generally served instead of at Brown’s by the water. They did call and advise us of this, but the food was a let down too. Not sure if it was because of the move or not. The service was very good, but the atmosphere was worse than I expected and the food was inconsistent. Some dishes good and some not good at all. For example, the clams were quite tasty with nice flavor as was the beet salad, but the prawns were overwhelmed with too much garlic that tastes more raw than roasted. The kampachi description sounded lovely, but the fish was completely overcooked which was disappointingly surprising at a fine dining restaurant. Don’t think we’ll be back. Meridian at the Westin was much better and their venue allows an ocean view even when it rains.
My wife and I came here four years ago for our first date on the Big Island together. One Sunday, we came here for our first date as a married couple together. We love this place, and would highly recommend it to anyone. The staff was great and very attentive to us and our needs all night, the ambiance was pristine, and the backdrop is unbeatable!
Our waitress Janice was simply the best ever, great personality, great service.
Not as good as previous experiences. Plates were hot but food was cool suggesting that the dinner languished under a heat lamp. Our waiter was a bit inattentive. presentation was beautiful as always
We enjoyed a great meal, good service, and a beautiful spot.
Perfect! Everything was lovely! The music, setting and staff was beyond our expectation!!
The views and overall experience are pure Hawaiian excellence. Go for that and not really the food - it is good but pricey and not exceptional like the views and ambiance. Actually limited menu offerings compared to most higher end restaurants. Wine list good. Service excellent. And the live music at sunset makes it a memorable event.
Love this place! Food was amazing, million dollar view and great service! They gave us a complimentary dessert for my wife's birthday. Definitely coming back.
