Brown Dog Cafe Ratings and Reviews
Grilled Caesar was fabulous as we're the burnt carrots!!! My friend got chicken wings and said they were very salty and not very good. Service was in the category of not very attentive, speedy or good at basics like when you bring coffee and milk, bring a utensil for stirring.
Our party of 4 was seated in a corner, which was perfect for us to talk and not be disturbed. Service wasn’t bad, and we were checked on frequently, but appetizers didn’t all arrive at same time (bread came long after soup...usually eat that together). Everyone enjoyed their meal, and the desserts were outstanding. My only complaint would be on the chicken that was added to my salad. I was told it was grilled, so I assumed warm. It was poached, cold and very dry. It feels like it was not made fresh for me, but pulled out of the marinade (strong) in the fridge. Disappointing for this level of restaurant. Salad was good, but I will never order an add-on protein, and do not recommend.
This restaurant should be top notch, but isn't. They charge $4.00 for bread and butter, which should be complimentary. We ordered a Mediterranean Pizza and the Tile Fish Special. Both were just okay. We don't feel like we need to rush back. The restaurant looks nice and service was fine. We have been there three times and have not noticed any improvement in the food.
The evening began with a very bad experience. We were never acknowledged at the hostess station. The hostess had a large party in front of us and she was on the phone. Once she hung up, she was ‘head down’ working from hand written notes and using the pc. When she finally finished, she responded to another hostess by handing her menus etc. I approached and asked if I could tell her we were there and had a reservation, another woman began talking and said she was a ‘walk-in’. She was seated first. We were next. Our issue is not the fact that she was busy, but the fact that we were ignored and no one apologized for the wait or the rudeness.
The wait staff was great and the food was very good.
Ordered the lamb, prepared well, food served hot. Service was not good, slow and order not revised properly. There was actually a large dog in the outside bar area. I saw many of the servers and restaurant staff, pet and play with the dogs. I pray they all practiced proper sanitary activity before handling food again. Frankly I see no reason to engage with an animal while serving or handling food for others. If you choose to do it on your own time, fine but not when I'm paying $35 for an entrée.
Unfortunately, had a less than stellar experience here the night before Thanksgiving. We had been to Brown Dog a little over a year ago and had a pretty good experience. We ordered entrees (pork chop, duck, and scallops) which were meh but nothing special. Not worth the price. Music was bar like and we noticed that everyone around us was eating burgers and pizza. Made for less than a nice dinner experience. Our daughter was in town for Thanksgiving and we had hoped to have a nice family dinner, but I could not recommend if that's what you're looking for. Maybe for pizza and beer but I doubt if we'll go back. Too many other options.
Very Mixed Experience
Very excited to try this restaurant as we had heard a lot of good things. We made a reservation and showed up about 10 minutes early. We were told it would be a minute. That minute ended up being 35. No explanation, no apology. When we were seated we were put at a table in the kitchen. This is not an exaggeration, there are three tables that literally are in the kitchen. Her server seemed upset that we requested a new table. We were greeted by another employee who offered us bread as compensation. We thanked him but said we really just wanted a different location - he went straight to arranging a new table they from outside to set up for us. After ordering our meals, we were a little disappointed in how they came out. Fish was overcooked, steak was undercooked. Seems like a nice place with a lot of potential but unfortunately our first visit will probably be our last.
Service and attention to detail was aweful! It took over 30 minutes to get our drinks and our food came sporadically. The server had no idea who had ordered what, the wine delivered was the wrong bottle, and we had to pay a 20 percent gratuity! Lunch here is wonderful but dinners are nearly always lousy and subpar.
We have dined at the restaurant before and enjoyed it so decided that a visit on a beautiful fall Sunday afternoon would be perfect. We arrived at 5:00 at the start of dinner service and the trouble started. Instead of giving us dinner menus they provided the lunch menus. Not a big deal but it gets worse. We ordered a goat cheese and beet salad and when it came it was without goat cheese and three small slices of beets. The rest of the salad was greens. This was a problem. Finally the server arrived with the goat cheese. It was frozen hard. What we could chip off tasted stale and nothing like goat cheese. This was a bigger problem. Finally a replacement salad was offered and the salads were comped. I ordered the rabbit pie as a main course since the game dishes have been good at the restaurant. Mistake!. The vegetables were only semi-cooked, not even al dente, just plain semi-raw. The rabbit was in shreds and not a lot of it. The flavor of the dish was bland and unremarkable. When we were offered dessert we said no for fear and stopped to get some ice cream on the way home. Will be some time before we even consider another visit.
Butter nut squash with red curry sauce was too spicy to eat- would not try this again.
Otherwise the bread, beet and fried goat cheese salad, hummus tray were very good.
Dessert of banana cake with chocolate fudge and ice cream was great conclusion to our meal
Our family often goes to Brown Dog for a dinner or afternoon bites. Their specials are often seafood and excellent. Chef has a way with putting together different flavors where they highlight the ingredients rather than come out fussy or complicated.
This particular dinner was a family night out and enjoyable as always.
While the food was ok it took over an hour to arrive at lunch. There was a problem evidently with their computer. Hard to imagine why our meal couldn't be prepared in a timely manner. While they comped our meal we are not going again. Before move was better organized
