Brothers Restaurant at Red Barn
The 2013 opening of their second Santa Barbara Wine Country restaurant, Brothers Restaurant at the Red Barn in Santa Ynez, allows them to offer visitors and locals alike great food, wine and hospitality. The brothers strive to have legendary service, innovative cuisine, and a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere that causes you to return time and again.
As chefs, the brothers continue to experiment with new dishes and cuisine, but always with that “from scratch”, homemade element. Fresh ingredients from local producers, a wine list that showcases the region’s award-winning wines and a comfortable and historically interesting atmosphere that takes you back to the romance of the old west. We've been going to Brother's for almost 15 years and in all of their iterations of restaurants one thing stays constant - GREAT food and service! My wife had two friends in town from back east and we decided it had to be Brother's for the best sampling of the valley. Brother's didn't disappoint! A great dinner contributed to great conversation and a great evening. Truly, Brother's is one of the Central Coast's great culinary gems!
This was my first time at Brothers Restaurant. The occasion was my birthday, and a Santa Barbara business owner highly recommended Brothers for the occassion. I’m visiting from New Mexico and it’s unlikely I’d have found this restaurant on my own.
I’m so glad I chose this establishment. The food was great, and so was the service. There was another birthday celebration, and those folks invited us to join them. There’s was a party of approximately 16 people, and they’d driven all the way from Los Angeles to celebrate at Brothers. This wasn’t their first time.
I recommend Brothers to others with no hesitation. I suggest calling ahead (or using OpenTable) for reservations.
Had a great dinner this evening to celebrate my mom’s birthday! Every dish was fantastic...from the wedge and baby green/poached pear salads to the salmon, filet mignon, pork chop and seared scallops. Service was great. Would definitely recommend and can’t wait to go back!!
Great food as usual. The tacos were a little spicier than normal
Food was good but nothing extraordinary. Scottish salmon was good but preparation was not exciting. Food was served too quickly. Nice ambiance but the experience was spoiled by rushed service. Busboy asked whether we were done while we were clearly still eating. Waitress did the same a minute or two later, and when turned away, she plunked the bill down on the table without even the customary coffee shop line, “no rush, pay when you’re ready”. Instead of a pleasant dinner, we found ourselves out the door in record time, feeling as if we’d been through a race.
The Red Barn in my opinion has the very best food in all of Santa Ynez Valley. The chefs, Matt and Jeff Nichols, are extreme talent that came from a royalty resume - Spago in Los Angeles, Ocean Seafood Santa Monica and The highly acclaimed Cordon Bleau epicurean school in France. So lucky for diners to have them land in Santa Ynez Valley to create the most well prepared food with a California fresh green garden flair with every dish they make. Everything here is excellent. Try the Vegetable Spring Roles, a signature dish!
The food was terrific, and the portion sizes were generous. Our server was lovely. The noise level did make it difficult to have a conversation across the table.
Our friends recommended the Red Barn. We were not disappointed. Food was very good. We split the prime rib dinner. We had heard about the noise issue so we asked to sit in the corner where it was less noisy since we were celebrating our 15th anniversary. Our waitress Jenna was a delight. Looking forward to returning soon.
Delighted to return while visiting the area. Without a doubt the best prime rib dinner ever, preceded by cups of delicious French onion soup and artichoke soup. We cannot wait to return on our next visit!!
It was delicious!!! Yummy bread basket consists of herb Focaccia, Ortega type Chili flavored MOIST cornbread, a mini Spinach/cheese finger biscuit, & Wheat bread. Entrees: hubby had the Salmon and I had the Sole in a Lemon Caper sauce(to die for) paired wth Sour Cream/chives mashed potatoes & some fresh Al Dante veggies. Dessert: Brother's Mudpie w/ Caramel & Chocolate sauce & pecans. DELICIOUS EVERYTHING!
Absolutely the best prime rib I have ever had. We will be going back every time we visit Santa Ynez!
Food was terrific! I ordered an end cut of prime rib and it did not disappoint. Excellent flavor and an extremely tender piece of beef. My wife had the scallops and raved how good they were. Only complaint would be the noise level. IT WAS LOUD! There was a Cowboy/Wrangler get together on this night and the place was packed. Even with the noise level, we enjoyed our dinner and the vibe of the evening.

This is the best restaurant not only in Santa Ynez, but in all of the greater Santa Barbara area. The food is unique, delicious and consistent. The service is outstanding. The ambience is warm, comfortable and unpretentious.
Excellent filet and the best Ceasar salad anywhere. Great food delivered in a timely fashion by a very friendly staff. I highly recommend this restaurant.
The food is always great but the noise is so loud. Very hard to have a conversation because of the noise. The last time we went the noise was so loud that it made the dinner not as fun. On this visit the food was good but not as good as our previous visits.
The prime rib was excellent. We enjoyed the French onion soup and the Chinese chicken salad. The food is very flavorful and presented beautifully. We always look forward to having dinner at Brothers Restaurant when we are in Santa Ynez.
The Red Barn is one of our favorite restaurants to go to. The food is always consistent and great. I have the trout almost every time because I love it. i have never been disappointed with it. That in itself says a lot for a restaurant, that a meal is always good.
Dinner was absolutely delicious! We had the Scallops, which were prepared to perfection. The service was wonderful and the atmosphere was enjoyable!! One of my favorites
I’m just a little upset. We’ve eaten at “The Red Barn” many times. And the food and service are both lovely.
Two close friends from Georgia we’re spending the night with us in town and we thought it would be nice to take them out to one of our favorite eateries.
They said they wanted to share the special dinner of the night. Rather than delivering a beautiful plate of Diver Scallops and a small empty plate, the staff plated up two small plates of Scallops. Our guests said that that was such a nice thing of the chef to have done...we had a lovely time together but when I got home and checked the bill I paid for all 4 meals their was an $8 charge for their “Split/Shared” dinner. The Scallops were a $38 dinner and to pay $46 to have “shared” it seems a bit much.
These “Split/Shared” dinner up charges are a pet peeve of mine since it’s no more than a 2nd plate to wash.
Next time we won’t ask the wait staff to share but just do so at the table.
We did share appetizers and there was no up charge for that .
We will continue to frequent The Red Barn as we are fans of Matt and Jeff’s cooking but I do think guests should be informed that there will be a surcharge for sharing if the restaurant plates the split rather than the guests simply doing it at the table.
We had a wonderful waiter named Junior. Attentive and very professional. Food was excellent as usual. Great lunch with friends.
Our steaks were tender and delicious, seasoned perfectly. The burger from the bar menu was mouthwatering and delicious. Our only negative comment is that the sound level in dining room is very high and it is difficult to hold a conversation with your group.
The Grilled Prime Filet was probably one of the best meals I've ever had!!! Our second time there and fantastic both times. Will DEFINATELY be back!!
I booked the Red Barn because it was my 44th wedding anniversary. Both my husband and I were delighted with the salmon entree and the creme brulee. My husband is gluten free so the salmon was grilled for him. Even though the restaurant was busy our waitress was very attentive to our service. What a delightful dinner!

Food is fabulous! We had the pear and walnut salad with Stilton cheese, and the trout for dinner - holy cow both were amazing! Service couldn't have been better, despite the fact that it was packed. Needless to say the coconut sorbet was absolutely delicious!
Incredible food, incredible service
The best restaurant in Santa Ynez. We live in the Los Angeles area and dine out often, these Brothers are among the elite.
EXCELLENT!! Our dinners were absolutely delicious and the service is terrific. We do not live near by and it takes us a little while to get to Santa Yanez, but it is worth the trip. This is one of our favorite restaurants!
Too cold on a February night. Did not even have the fireplace lit, when it was in the 50s outside. Had to eat dinner with coats in. Later, on a March night, seats on the enclosed were cold, with wind coming through the gaps in the curtains. They turned on the heaters after we were done with dinner (we had a 6pm reservation).
Exceptional food and service
The Brothers at Red Barn will NEVER disappoint you. The food is ALWAYS exceptionally well prepared: their home made soups unbelievably good; their waitstaff extremely friendly. Every. Single Time. And, the top sirloin steaks we had were the tenderest, juiciest, most flavorful steaks we have eaten in ANY restaurant. Last week I had their chicken breast rolled with goat cheese and I could not believe the tender, flavorful experience of a piece of chicken! Exceptional quality on a consistent basis. You cant beat it.

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner last week. Best rack of lamb my man has ever had. They made a fantastic veggie dish for me. Our server, Diane, was top-notch and the busboy was on top of his game! We’ll definitely go back!
