The Nichols brothers, Matt & Jeff, grew up in Ames, Iowa where their love of cooking, good food and a sense of family and community was nurtured.

The 2013 opening of their second Santa Barbara Wine Country restaurant, Brothers Restaurant at the Red Barn in Santa Ynez, allows them to offer visitors and locals alike great food, wine and hospitality. The brothers strive to have legendary service, innovative cuisine, and a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere that causes you to return time and again.

As chefs, the brothers continue to experiment with new dishes and cuisine, but always with that “from scratch”, homemade element. Fresh ingredients from local producers, a wine list that showcases the region’s award-winning wines and a comfortable and historically interesting atmosphere that takes you back to the romance of the old west. They want you to feel at home, and experience all the best of Santa Barbara’s Wine Country.

The best prime rib ever. Service was as wonderful as the food. The environment is unique and a great reflection of the Santa Ynez Valley. Everything was great. Would always appreciate a larger pour of wine.

It was for our 33rd anniversary. The last time we ate here the food was excellent. This time around, the Prime Rib I ordered was really fatty. I ordered the most expensive Prime Rib cause I thought it would be as good as the last time I ordered it about 2 years ago. The server was great. Just a bit disappointed on the food this time around. Will I dine here again? Most likely when I’m in the area again. I just won’t order the most expensive cut.

We arrived on a very busy night, friendly hostess initially did not see our OT reservation as their computers has temporary issues. But recognizing us as past customers and users of OT, they seated us immediately. Red Barn is consistently among the best restaurant experiences in the SY Valley in every category. Always a major treat to go there.

There aren’t a lot options in Santa Ynez but saw good reviews for this restaurant. The food was delicious, cocktails were spot on and service was excellent. Will defn be back again. Loved my scallops and my husband’s veal chop was cooked perfectly: pink on the inside and slightly charred on the outside.

We had dinner with old friends from out-of -town. The food was top notch and we all enjoyed it. It was a bit noisy ,but I don't know how that could be mitigated. My wife thought it was a little warm, and she is usually cold, but I didn't notice.
We have been to the Red Barn many times over the years and it is great for special dinners. The prices are on the upper level but so is the food. Just be prepared.

This place is a hidden gem. If you are in the area do like us and try something new rather the same old restaurant. We tried this place and Red Barn did not disappoint. The clam chowder was yummy. The burger and French dip was delicious. We need to go back because we didn't have any room for the famous mud pie. We are on a mission next time.

Fabulous is all I can say. We had the fried oysters, rack of lamb, filet and dessert for our anniversary dinner. And a table in a quiet corner. Plus a delicious Stolpman wine. Everything was perfect. It’s not cheap, but worth every penny.

Steaks cooked perfectly. The cranberry spice cake was yummy. Perfect to finish an exquisite meal. The service is exceptional. They set the bar high. To what other restaurants dream to achieve.
My wife & come here for date night or to celebrate. We live in LA. Well worth the 2 hr drive.

This was a second visit for us- a year apart. It was just as delicious as the first time! We were misled by GPS which caused us to drive to the wrong town. After calling the restaurant and telling them what happened, we were on our way. Then because of traffic delays in Solvang, we lost our reservation. Upon arriving at Brothers Restaurant we were surprised and delighted that the hostess made arrangements for us to have a seat right next to their lovely Christmas tree adjacent to the bar. Best seat in the house! Best dinner possible with service to match. Thank you Brothers for making a disaster into a Christmas present for my husband and me. Continued success to you!

Fantastic food experience and service! The restaurant was bustling on a Tuesday night which means it's popular and most likely a favorite for locals. We were from out of town and will be back for sure. Yesi was great!

Red Barn sets the standard that others in the valley follow. They rarely alter the menu but if it ain't broke... A go to for locals particularly on week days and non holidays.

Best in the valley bar none. We both had the rack of lamb - excellent. In the past I have had the trout and my wife has had the sole and they were also excellent . Mattie's made a big mistake.

We had heard good things about the Brothers, but were quite disappointed by the food. I had the special divers scallops. The scallops were high quality and cooked perfectly, but the seasoning totally overpowered their sweetness.

Food was amazing and service was excellent, it’s a straight up American cuisine kind of place and the quality and flavor delivers. Lovely wine list too that is dominated with Wine from the region, of course. You could definitely split entrees, they are big, and it’s worth paying a split plate charge. Highly recommend as a warm, laidback yet elevated dining experience in wine country.

So cozy and GOOD! My steak was cooked to perfection, but I must say the trout was beyond amazing and so was the squash soup and homemade bread! Wrap it up with great service and some local Pinot Noir and its a night to remember!

We were visiting SY Valley for the weekend and this place was on the recommended list of places to eat in Santa Ynez. We were also told to make a reservation and had done so for 8pm. We turned up a little early hoping we might get in and at first it didn’t look hopeful although they were trying to move things around for us. They then got a cancellation so were able to accommodate us on the spot. The food was fantastic. My husband and son had a 12oz Prime rib and i had a 6oz filet. Their prime rib was apparently very tender and my steak was cooked exactly how I like it and was exceptionally tender. The sauce and sides were a perfect accompaniment to make the meal just right. The waiter was attentive without overbearing and seemed to fill our wine glasses without us noticing. I Would definitely recommend the red barn as it had been recommended to us.
