About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Neighborhood gem
  • Lively
The Nichols brothers, Matt & Jeff, grew up in Ames, Iowa where their love of cooking, good food and a sense of family and community was nurtured.

The 2013 opening of their second Santa Barbara Wine Country restaurant, Brothers Restaurant at the Red Barn in Santa Ynez, allows them to offer visitors and locals alike great food, wine and hospitality. The brothers strive to have legendary service, innovative cuisine, and a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere that causes you to return time and again.

As chefs, the brothers continue to experiment with new dishes and cuisine, but always with that “from scratch”, homemade element. Fresh ingredients from local producers, a wine list that showcases the region’s award-winning wines and a comfortable and historically interesting atmosphere that takes you back to the romance of the old west. They want you to feel at home, and experience all the best of Santa Barbara’s Wine Country.

You can always count on good quality food and great service at Brothers at the Red Barn. They start by bringing you a sampler basket of different breads. Each one is delicious . We started with the Wedge salad which was classic style and yummy. My SIL and I both had the salmon and it was delicious. My husband loves a good burger and this is the place to get it. It’s not offered on the dinner menu so you have to ask for it specifically. My BIL had the filet and he enjoyed it as well. We ended the evening with a piece of the mud pie. Lightly flavored coffee ice cream with a drizzle of caramel and fudge as well as chopped pecans topped with whipped cream- To die for! Their wine list is a bit pricey, and I think they could offer more medium priced wine- read: $90 and under. Overall, a great experience!

Definitely a good choice if visiting the area. Two things really stood out for us: One, the service is exemplary, and two, worth going just for the ice cream for dessert!

Very friendly and accommodating staff. We felt right at home and taken well care of. Minimal but nice wine selections. We had no problem selecting wine for our meals. Artichoke soup was a bit bland but nice. We split a salad as they were large and too much for one person. We both got the trout. It was excellent!!!! Restaurant was full of people enjoying themselves so it was a bit loud but fun. Every person we connected with working was extremely friendly and helpful. Hostesses, bartenders and server Junior were top notch- wonderful. Thank you for a lovely evening.

We ordered the 20-hour, 140 degree baked Prime Rib!! We have never before experienced such a succulent prime rib. The mashed potatoes were unique and vegetables the way we love them (al dente). A first class meal in a lovely setting. The staff was very attentive, too.

Food and service were outstanding. The only issue we had was with the Zamboni drink that my wife ordered. It came in a 16 oz glass, which made it undrinkable about 1/2 way through the drink. By that time it had been watered down and she was tired of the drink.

It was our 30th wedding anniversary and they put us in the middle of the front room right by the kitchen and where all the traffic was. It was so loud we couldn't have a conversation. I don't expect special service however, for our 30th anniversary, you would think they would at least put us at a table in a better location. Seriously, it was the worst table in the entire restaurant.

Great place for dinner for any occasion. The atmosphere is casual and the food is outstanding. The basket of breads had delicious cornbread and rosemary bread. The steaks and sides were delicious - cooked and served to perfection. The kitchen seems to run like clockwork and the wait staff is on point.
