Good sangria. Rib tips and popcorn shrimp great appetizers. Staff very attentive.
I have enjoyed Brother's Jimmy for years, they have to pay rent in the city so the price keeps going up like in must of the business ... to me a deterrent of going out to eat as much as I used to, after living in the city for 18 years, it is what it is ...
Great comfort food and friendly service make this a winning combination. Then"platter" meal gives good value.
I always love dining at Brother Jimmy's. This is my favorite restaurant & bar food in NYC. The wings burst with flavors. The other night me and my girlfriend tried the 64oz Swamp water, it was delicious!
The place is nice but very loud but then again we were there to watch a football game so it was ok for us. The staff is friendly and lovely 😉. Food was delicious but the drinks a little $$. I will be going back soon.
Lovely food and we were really looked after! Can’t wait to visit again.
Spectacular food and service
Had an ok time at Brother Jimmy’s our waitress was lovely & the chicken wings delicious. We all had a burger or sandwich but all were disappointing. The coke machine was also broken.
Would’ve been good to know that there was going to be very loud live rock music as we would’ve chosen somewhere else as we were meeting an old friend & couldn’t really hear each other whilst catching up.
This is an excellent BBQ spot in Murray Hill. It is a bar, can be noisy on a weekend night, and this may slow down service....but...it is all worth it! The “marbled” beef brisket is excellent and the only thing we ordered. Side dishes were very good and a reasonable size. All in all a very worthwhile stop and reliable place for BBQ !
Ultimate comfort food BBQ ribs are unmatched comfort food cooked to perfection. This is a great place to have a tasty meal in a casual setting.
I have the BBQ ribs which were consistently good. The Bourbon laced tea was refreshing. The service was helpful and friendly.
This remains reliable comfort food in a casual environment. The BBQ ribs are great.
Good barbecue. There are better places in the city but this is fine.
We were there when the Yankees were playing Cleveland so there was loud music PLUS the play by play. And lots of drunken fans at the bar. Not annoying...just LOUD. Turn the music down if you're showing the game.
The hostess greeted me promptly and politely. My table was ready right on time, the server was friendly and efficient, food not great but atmosphere made up for it. Overall a great experience, I'd do it again.
Food and ambience was good overall, service was terrible. It was impossible to even find the waitress or anyone to refill our water or give us silverware. The bouncer was extremely rude, he made us show him our id's when we were sitting at a table to eat dinner at 7:00 on a Tuesday and made me throw out an unopened water bottle I had in my bag and then gave us attitude when we asked where the restrooms were. We would maybe come back when it's less crowded or try one of the other locations.
Brisket & ribs were good, sides, not so. Service is spotty. Large portions. But mix-up with dessert order extended us by 25 minutes. So-so experience, not to be repeated.
The BBQ are excellent comfort food. There is a good range of cocktails and beers to accompany the food. The service, while friendly, is very slow.
there were 6 of us and it was just a terrible Saturday night experience. the service stank. the food was cold. the portions incredible small. okay taste but really....6 ribs in a Full Rack?? they must be kidding and charging $24 bucks!!??
Food sent back. Tasteless chicken. Rubber brisket and awful service. Noise level indescribable.
Just an awful time was had by all!
One of my favorite bbq places in the city. Can't beat the swampwater cocktail if you agreed to only have one drink.
Wayyy better than the Midtown location due to better and more attentive service especially for the all you can eat/drink promotion.
We appreciate that we are not the target market for Jimmy's, but this was probably the most disappointing meal of our 10 days in New York. Serving staff superficially polite, but not really that interested. Food was very ordinary, especially the pulled pork - frankly what I cook at home in the UK is considerably better. We would not return, nor recommend to others.
Loved the southern style menu and the happy hour. Great cocktails. Waitress was really friendly and helpful. Lively bar area and lots of sports screens, we were in a quieter area just off the bar that suited our mixed age group. Everyone had a great night and thoroughly enjoyed the food and drinks, especially the free shots and "pickle juice" Thanks Brother Jimmys.
excellent service, really friendly staff, good food
The food was low quality BBQ in our opinions. We are from KC and had expectations of good southern style BBQ. The food was poorly seasoned and over priced. The environment was like sitting in a college bar with more patrons drinking rather than eating. I would not return to this establishment nor recommend it to anyone I know traveling to NYC.
Service and food were outstanding. The swamp water is a must get for a group of friends looking to drink.
Jeremy the bar manager was great to us. We will definitely be back!
This was the ultimate in comfort food. The "Northern" ribs were very tasty - plenty of fat to add to the tasty and tenderness of the meat. The "George tea" was a high proof refreshing tall drink. The waitress was helpful but, I think, over worked. The meal represented a good value informal meal that is sure to leave any diner satisfied.
Have been to Brother Jimmy's 31st/8th-, but not been to Murray Hill location before. Had to wait way too long for our food after ordering--and then were missing part of the order. The place was busy, but not crowded--there were empty tables. Not our server's fault, and she did discount some of our order. The BBQ items were good--pulled pork, brisket, pulled chicken, baked beans & cornbread; fried chicken and burger were just OK. Based on this experience, though our server apologized profusely, would not recommend or go back any time soon. I will return to the 31st/8th Ave. location, however.
Better atmosphere than food.
The ribs live up to their reputation. This is hearty "Southern style" cooking. The restaurant is short staffed but they are helpful and the food comes out promptly after the order is placed.
This is not a place to hold a serious conversation but it has a convivial and friendly atmosphere that is conducive to a gathering of friends.
For a tasty and affordable meal with few "frills" this is hard to beat.
went on mardi gras - and despite the beads and masks on the wait staff and the band singing every song that referenced New Orleans - it was just another night. That aside - it was a good dinner with cool drinks (lots of non vodka choices, finally!) plenty of appetizers to share and bbq combo plates are a lot of food (and delicious) sweet potato tater tots and fried brussel sprouts were the stand out sides. desserts menu made it hard to decide.
Can't ever go wrong with Brother Jimmy's either for drinks or for great bar food!
Wings are phenomenal, as was the ribs. The swamp water drink is a ginormous fishbowl with straws. Mmmm...good.
My only beef (pun not intended) was that it was very cold inside. Otherwise, I will be going back for the amazing pulled pork, mac & cheese and baked beans.
The food was very good. The atmosphere was a loud frat party around our table that was out of control. Management and security should have stepped in to calm the crowd down. If you want to go to this restaurant and not party all night, try another location.
I went with a group of my co workers last Friday and we started out with drinks. My drink was not that strong nor did I get a buzz. I then ordered the blacken fish sandwich which had no favor. My french fries were good I actually like the one near Madison Square Garden better. And to top it all off they told us that happy hour was only offered at the bar... like really?
When we got there they had already shut down the kitchen and didn't understand why we would book a table to eat.
You can always count on Bro J's to deliver great food and drinks at good prices. Never change Bro J's.
The food was not the best southern food I've had - the chicken wings were border line cooked and the skins were soft. Chicken wings should be crispy in my book! The brisket and bun were cold. The pulled pork was too salty. However, the mac/cheese was cheesy and the fries were crispy.
They had good entertainment for the kids - a neat crayon holder, coloring place mat/menu, and balloons with toy lizard as the anchor, and kids ate for free.
I visited there with my boy.
He was the first time in USA. He satisfied the staff of BBQ.
