Brother Jimmy's BBQ Ratings and Reviews
The food was excellent. The ribs were fall off the bone tasty, the beans were very flavorful, the mac and cheese perfect. The tater tots were store-bought frozen variety, but not a big deal with so much else to enjoy. Only criticism was the place was literally the noisiest restaurant I've ever been inside. You couldn't hear someone yelling six inches away from you. Turn off the music and it'll be a more enjoyable place. Other than the noise, the food was really excellent.
Solid BBQ and friendly/attentive wait staff. The only downside was that it was entirely too hot in the place. They had A/C, but it was not turned up enough. Me and my friend were sweating profusely. It was not just us, those around us were complaining too.
We booked a reservation for dinner before a show at MSG. I definitely would recommend it other than the internal temperature.
Great food. Have to walk up stairs to tables. Despite nearly every table being open, (4:00pm on a Thursday) we were led to a middle table with about 6 inches of room on either side. Had to ask for a different table. Hostess made sure we saw the look on her face. I would go back but be more descriptive with the table I want when making a reservation.
Staff were lovely, we were seated upstairs which was not as noisy as downstairs. However, sadly the food was quite disappointing , not bad, just average! Ribs were quite good, and sides were excellent, especially collard greens and green beans. Cornbread a bit sweet for my tastes but I know a lot of people like that way. I ordered the pulled pork which was way too vinegary. I grew up in the US South, but have never tasted pork that was so vinegary. And all of the sauces were thin like water, except more vinegar! Sorry guys, not good enough.
Mothers Day early dinner, fantastic service, great vibe. Usually noisy but we were seated in the back room on the ground floor and it was nice, we could hear each other talk. Great pitchers of beer on tap, food is good (some of our party said GREAT). Brother Jimmy's is a family go-to and did not disappoint.
I originally booked a table for 8 and called to add on 2 more people for our party. The people I talked with on the phone and the hostess was very accommodating for that. We were there to watch a game with tipoff 10 minutes before our actual reservation so we grabbed a beer downstairs at the bar while we watched pregame stuff. They were able to seat us right before tipoff so we still had our beers with us and when the waitress came over she said, "You guys have to actually order food." We came hungry and were planning on it anyway. We ordered lots of food, including enough apps to share for at least one app for each person. However, when the food came out in waves we noticed that there were three baskets of plain fries and a bucket of Buffalo wings on our table that we didn't order. I got the waitress's attention and asked her about the fries to which she snapped immediately that "someone on the other end of the table ordered them first thing" to which no one said they did. We each were only maybe two beers deep at this point, which wasn't nearly enough for us to not remember ordering those baskets of fries. Those baskets ended up on our bill, which totaled to about $500 in all. It didn't add a ton to our already high bill, but it was a very bad experience. I'm from NC and as Brother Jimmy's is a NC barbecue joint, I've gone to this and many more of its locations to watch games or just get some barbecue with friends. However, neither me nor my friends will be frequenting this or the other locations in the city after this incident. Large parties beware, as it seems like you may have food added onto your bill in hopes that you'll neither notice nor contest it.
