I haven't had good BBQ in a long time and I was pleasantly surprised by JImmy's. The smokers are right on view and the aroma is irresistible. I had the ribs and my companion had the fish tacos. We loved both. Our server was very pleasant and attentive. We will definately be back!
On our way to lax game stopped in for a bite
Our server, who we have had before, was terrific. We are fans of this restaurant.
Had a great time with my friends.great ambiance for casual hangout with friends.luv the sangria and all the comfort food to share.
Awesome BBQ north of the Carolinas!!!
This was our second visit here. We opted for the pre fix Valentine's day menu which included and appetizer, two side salads, two entrees, a brownie with ice cream dessert and two glasses on champagne.
The champagne came out with our driveway k order, nothing out of the ordinary.
The appetizer took a long time to come out, we get through about 1/3 of the appetizer when our meals come out, the waitress looks at us and says " he didn't time it ". We ask about our salads and the waitress brings them out, neither has any kind of dressing. After a few tries we manage to flag down our waitress and ask her for some ranch, she brings it.
We finish our salads and our appetizer at which point our food is no longer hot. My wife's half smoked chicken is dry, very dry. My ribs are so so.
Finally the dessert comes out with is a 3 inch wide by 3 inch long by 1/2 inch deep brownie heart and in a bowl next to it a scoop of chocolate ice cream. The brownie was pretty bland and the ice cream was average.
Overall we spent $ 60 on this meal, a beer and an iced tea. There was no organization and the food wasn't worth the money. Will not be returning here.
Did not like the way you pay your bill, they stick a screen in your face can't really review unless you take pad and look at charges. When I asked and received a receipt it showed that I was charged extra for dressing There wasn't enough dressing to begin with
Brisket was spot on, as always.. fast service and good drinks for everyone.
Great bbq right next to Rutgers University. Attentive, friendly service.
Laid back, comfortable atmosphere. Great value. Excellent food, loved the fried pickles and the marbled brisket. Come with an appetite!
It was great!
Went here on a whim because I liked the bar menu and the food choices. Neither one disappointed! If I'm ever in the area again, I would come back!
really enjoyed it, had a birthday celebration there. great food and great fishbowls
We were able to watch our soccer match while we ate, and see Messi score against Real Madrid, while we ate our delicious ribs. Our guests said the brisket was great as well.
Great food - nice to get some good barbecue. Service was very good!
Restaurant was in a great location next to the train station, below a parking garage and near one of the Rutgers campuses. I was seated in the dining area and ordered an appetizer of chips and spinach dip. Chips were cold and the dip needed salt and more cheese added as it was hard trying to scoop the dip onto the chips. Thumbs down to that. I tried their can't sugar cherry soda which was great. The fried okra tasted as if they were a bit green since they weren't tender enough when I bit into them. Ribs, BBQ chicken and fries were good though. Too bad I needed a doggy bag for the rest of my dinner. I was stuffed. The ambience is the usual that you see in a BBQ restaurant. I saw a sign that was posted up with 50¢ wings on Saturday's, Wednesday's was Rutgers night and so on. I'll guess that the restaurant gets packed on those days. Foe me, the restaurant was just ok.
Service was practically non existent. The table was tiny, we had to put our own dishes in the bussing area we were next to after the appetizer because no one came to take the plates or cups. Waited 10 minutes to pay for a beer at the bar that had only one other customer.
The food is always amazing. Very friendly staff as well.
We eat there regularly. Good food, great service and fun, casual place.
We have been a fan of Brother Jimmy's in New Brunswick for 2 years now. Our last visit was in August. The menu has changed and the quality of the ribs has really fallen. The ribs were dry and tasteless. the "not lean" brisket had NO meat. We were very disappointed. The hushpuppies and the Cheerwine were the highlights of the meal.
Please return to your earlier quality. This was awful.
Service is always excellent. Food quality is consistently great.
The presentation of the food was good but the barbecue did not have the grilled flavor that I am used to. It was tender but not smoky! For that reason, I would not return.
I thoroughly enjoyed dinner at Brother Jimmy's BBQ. The food was delicious and the service top notch. My only grade lower than five stars because we were seated at a table next to the bar area and three ladies were sharing drinks just on the other side and it was like we were part of their rather loud conversation. I'll just ask for a seat away from the bar next time, but there will definitely be a next time.
The food at brother jimmys bbq is consistently
Good. I love their brisket sandwich. Very
On the night I went to Jimmy's (a Saturday)... this was a college hangout. I was disappointed by the actual BBQ food. The Marbled Brisket was literally the absolute driest I have ever had and the sides looked like something out of a cafeteria.
Got seated right away, service was good, food was a little on the salty side but overall good.
EXTREMELY mediocre. Terrible service. Not sure I expected anything better though.
The food was good, very close to Carolina bbq from NC. I would definitely come back again. The collard greens was a little spicy, but not a deal breaker.
We will never go back! I am from Louisiana...the cornbread was nasty. The hush puppies were a joke. The brisket was tender with no flavor. My kids would not eat their food. We sent back the nacho appetizer as the cheese & meat were dried out. The guacamole looked as if it were old.
The maple butter served with hush puppies was just strange. It was SO LOUD!!!!!!!!!
Great service, great food and you are not rushed. Enjoyable evening.
Our server was very attentive and friendly. We always enjoy Brother Jimmy's BBQ.
the food is especially delicious. not all locations have the same menus so you need to check out the specific menu for the site. love it here!!
We are in this part of NJ every year for a racing event and this is the first time we ate here. The BBQ was great and our server was very friendly. We will come back next year.
This place was great. The only negative I would give is that the place was pretty empty and the waitress sat us in a corner with everyone else in the place when plenty of tables were open I didn't find it necessary to squeeze us together.
The server was very attentive and friendly and had the food prepared exactly as I requested. The BBQ burger was excellent as was the chipolte bbq sauce. I'd pass on the baked beans. They were just okay. There was a very nice selection of beers. My parking was covered by $2 since I spent over $20. If you go on Wednesdays bring your Rutgers university ID and get 25% off the food cost too.
Excellent food and very pleasant overall experience.
When I ordered a Buffalo Trace old fashioned on the rocks the server brought me Buffalo Trace on the rocks; then she brought me a Manhattan, served up. Finally I got the drink I ordered initially, but the funny thing was that the two incorrect drinks were on the bill after dinner. Fortunately the food was on point, as always at Brother Jimmy's.
Pulled pork and brisket were tender and flavorful. I recommend the baked beans. Sweet and seasoned with pork. BYO sauce if you are a fan of the sweet. Carolina and spicy sauces here.
Ribs, Fries, Chicken, Burger were all first class. Customer friendly: waitress even went outside to take our photo.
GOOD BBQ AT VERY REASONABLE PRICES. VIBRANT COLLEGE SCENE BUT STILL GOOD FOR FAMILIES.
