My wife, 7-month baby girl and business client were not allowed to dine. We were told there was no room for a baby stroller in the restaurant. This was not stated in the original reservation. The person said that it was against fire department policy to have a stroller inside and we had to leave. The person who would have seated us was unwelcoming and rude. While this restaurant appears to be a hot spot, I would never consider returning even without a child.
Food was amazing. In particular, this place is known for it's spring rolls. We had two popular choices and they were terrific. The bartender spent a lot of time with us explaining the history of the building and the food choices. Everything she recommended was terrific.
Can't wait to go back again!
Birthday party for son. Awesome! We loved our evening and a fabulous meal as always
It’s been a long time since I’ve found Vietnamese food, that isn’t pho. I really miss it! I enjoyed everything we ordered.
Food was very bland and the quality/quantity its over priced. This place is seriously too hyped.
This restaurant must have changed its chef/cook. The food here used to be good and certain dishes were authentic but all that has changed. The food is no longer authentic and tasty like it used to be. They should bring back the old chef/cook.
As an example, Chả cá Thặng Long was missing turmeric, and fresh dill. This dish should come with lots of fresh vegetables such as lettuce leaves, mints, Asian spinach, peanuts and roasted rice paper but instead it only came with chopped lettuce. This was totally lousy and cheesy. Also, two waiters were using foul languages while taking to each other about another table. We clearly heard “...f...ng sh..t...” from one of their foul mouths. How can they maintain the standard of an upscale restaurant when food is lousy and waiters are so ill mannered?
Good phó, nice ambiance. Short but interesting cocktail menu, but I didn't try any of them
Awesome as usual. Ambience was quite and casual. Great cocktails, delicious appetizers and dinner. Definitely going again.
Delicious food and lots of variety so the vegans, vegetarians and carnivores all had plenty of options. Our server was attentive and knew the menu well. It was a wonderful dining experience!
We had to stop by and celebrate Brandon's birthday dinner while we were in Anaheim! Had the duck and special rib rolls. The chicken garlic noodles were yummy...chicken was tender and noodles were tasty. Glass noodles with crab and shrimp were yummy too and seafood clay pot too! Got 2 orders of mango sticky rice...rice was so tasty!
We like tofu lettuce wrap, bông cỏ sweet cold drink and fish rice vermicelli soup
Holiday family reunion
Christmas Eve with 8 adults and 2 children. Food and service vice was perfect.
Loved this place! Brought my family here for a lunch get together on Christmas Eve. We ate everything family style so were able to select a many dishes. The spring rolls were so good we ended up ordering 5 plates! Plus we enjoyed the eggplant with shrimp, fried rice with salted fish, caramelized ribs, and lots more. The service was also great. Our only regret is that we didn't discover this place years ago as we live so close.
A group of us 5 went there for lunch during the Christmas season, therefore it was noisier than usual but the waiters were very patient and courteous. The food were delicious as always. Will definitely come back for many more occasions!
Yes, I went to Brodard Chateau mainly because it was the closest place I hadn't been to on Jonathan Gold's best list. Not being a regular eater of Vietnamese food, my review comes from the perspective of one perhaps not familiar with nuance regarding this cuisine. But I'm still an obsessive enjoyer of good food, and that's just what I found Brodard Chateau to have. Solidly good food all around, with some pleasant surprises.
The restaurant: It may be a converted Victorian home, but it's still a pretty casual place. Jeans and T-shirts were the norm, and no pretention from the waiter, although service was on the more formal side. When we arrived at 4 pm it was mostly empty, and very quiet. No music? That seemed odd, until the place starting filling up shortly thereafter, and the chatter filled that audio-void. The whole seating layout is pretty broken up, as you might expect, with the full bar front and center. Wherever you sit, it doesn't seem crowded, which was nice.
Shaken beef: Excellent, and the favorite item we ordered for five in my party. If we weren't so full, we would've had another order. Tender beef, crunchy onion, barely cooked mushroom.
Hanoi style pork noodle: My favorite. Strips of tasty grilled pork sitting in a gravy boat full of fish sauce. Served with thin noodles and leafy greens. It's more of a salad, with a light acidity. I just loved the pork.
Chicken Curry: Curry in a Vietnamese place? Yup, and very good. My wife's favorite dish.
House fried rice: Everyone enjoyed this. The rice had a nice chew, and the little meat cubes were delicious. This version reminded me of the first fried rice I ever had about 45 years ago. They hit that same taste.
Overall a very good meal. All nine of us were happy with the food and the service. Drinks were generous and fairly priced. For nine of us, including tax and tip, the bill came to around $320. Not bad, considering there were eight martini drinks on the bill.
Server forgot put in our food order. 2 people did not have their food.
Excellent food and service
Went here with my wife and it was very good. it is always good. the pork spring rolls are fantastic as well as the noodles.
So glad we went back,. So very nice to be able to sit across from each other and talk during our meal!
The service was excellent. The food was just okay. I really liked my won ton soup; my companion liked his spring rolls. The meat in my beef and green beans tasted artificial. 👅😖
Spring rolls are the best ever!
My wife had the wonton noodle soup and it was very good. I had the crispy noodle seafood dish and it was not very good. The noodles looked like potato or rice cakes. Very little seafood (one scallop, 3 shrimp and bits of squid). Usually, their food is very good. However, this one should be avoided. Other food is good. Next time, I will try something else.
Service was ok...delicious food
What a great find! The food was excellent! I would happily recommend this restaurant.
This place is a gem! We come here for delicious, authentic food at a reasonable price.
In one word DISAPPOINTING. In every way...so sad. Went to the place with high expectations because of all the great reviews. The food was just so so, service meh. I think the place is too overrated. I'll be going back to my fav viet place for the next few days to make up for this super bad experience.
As much as I love Pho, there is much more to Vietnamese food than the Pho Shops. If you want to explore Vietnamese beyond Pho, this is the place to go. The hardest part of the meal was deciding which dishes we were going to get. Our waiter was extremely helpful by walking us through the menu and giving us recommendations. I was impressed with the waiters familiarity with the menu and his willingness to help us.
I am not sure what this house/restaurant used to be but it definitely looks like it is medieval. It has a very nice upscale ambience, not what I would typically expect. It was a nice surprise.
The food was wonderfully presented and it all tasted great. My favorite was the Hanoi Noodles along with the sausage spring rolls (Nem Nuong) and the Banh khot. The best part was when I got the check, it didn't cost a fortune. Next time I am in the area, this is at the top of my list.
we did not get to eat from the banquet menu but we took the suggestion from the waiter to order the dishes separately and it was worth it. This was my first time to eat here and I will be back if I am in the area. I love the crunchy spring rolls and the beef salad. I would recommend this restaurant to others. The service was good and the overall ambience was really nice.
The appetizers were very good as well as the green mung bean drink (đậu xanh lá dứa). Unfortunately the duck and bamboo shoot soup (bún măng vịt) was not. The broth didn't have the flavor of that kind of soup. It tasted like the broth from another soup (riêu cua)
We had several appetizers and shared a bowl of wonton soup. Everything was delicious, chicken satay, duck with sweet bun, crepe and fresh shrimp spring rolls.
Excellent service was provided by Duc, he was friendly, polite and professional.
The dessert crepes are amazing, not like traditional crepes, the strawberry is our favorite.
Very disappointed after all of the hype. Dishes, including the spring rolls were nothing unusual and indeed, quite chewy in texture as if they had been sitting around all day. I would not go back.
I can always count the food and service to be spot on Brodard Chateau. I have never had a bad experience here!
Check out Yelp reviews on what to order. Everything was unbelievably delicious!
Definitively try the Spring Rolls. Service was great, very attentive to large group.
WE ENJOY THIS PLACE! FOOD IS GREAT AND THE SERVICE IS TOO.
This is our "go to" place for Vietnamese food with a French influence. We have tried so may menu items and have never been disappointed. The price and overall value is hard to beat. We plan on going there frequently whenever we are in the mood for Asian food. Excellent drinks as well.
