Brockton Villa Ratings and Reviews
Friends who live locally recommended The Brockton Villa as a place to meet for brunch. We walked along the Coast Road to get there and were so happy to see there was outdoor dining. Our table, at the front nearest the ocean, gave us a perfect view. The food was excellent. The staff did not make us feel we should leave, even though we sat a long time visiting with these friends whom we have not seen in many years. A truly enjoyable experience.
This place came highly recommended from a friend. Now I highly recommend Brockton Villa. My wife and I came here on a beautiful January Sunday morning as part of our anniversary weekend celebration. Though the vibe here is San Diego casual, our dining experience here was just as amazing and wonderful as the $450 dinner the night before, and a lot less. With a breath taking view of the Pacific ocean, we were greeted by warm and friendly hosts and waiters. Starting with tasty mimosas, we then enjoyed fresh fruit, amazing Benedict's and their spectacularly famous "Coast Toast'. We can hardly wait to go their again. We plan to become regulars.
We waited over 15 minutes after being seated before we left. The hostess (Samantha) was very pleasant and the only person who acknowledged us in the restaurant. The table next to ours gave their order to 2 different people and we could see they were frustrated. We were out for date night and rather than let this bad experience ruin our evening, we left and went to another restaurant. Super disappointed.
I've only eaten breakfast here in the past, but dinner was really delicious. They have a special 3 courses for $30 menu on Sunday/Monday/Tuesday night, and it was a deal. The server was friendly and helpful, we sat on the outdoor "balcony" right off the main dining room and could hear the seals barking and the waves breaking while we ate. Lovely all around!
Amazing table on porch. Food was excellent. Service not so much. Slow. No refill on the coffee - did not check in after we got our food. Despite the service- the location overcomes it. I also love that it is an old cottage built in 1894 with amazing views of the cove.
Shortly after moving to San Diego 2 years ago, my husband and I tried Brockton after walking by it several times. It is now our go-to when we have guests in town and bring them to La Jolla. We've always had great service, the food is good and there is something for everyone, and the view is amazing. I would recommend Brockton Villa!
We came to Brockton Villa to celebrate a birthday and had a very nice experience. We traveled about an hour to La Jolla and wanted a great view of the ocean. Brockton had beautiful patio seating as well as indoor seating. Inside was decorated lovely and was all very clean. We had a delicious meal, enjoying the good coffee, soup, fresh halibut dinners, pasta dinner, and children's meals. Everything was delicious! We topped it off with a huge banana split to share with our group. We will be back soon and come for Sunday brunch.
There's some real interesting fare on the menu that will be sure to spice up any experience - I tried the Coastal Toast, which was fine (I wouldn't say exceptional), while two of my family enjoyed the magical cinnamon roll pancakes, which were simply outstanding (and I believe the best entree on the menu for breakfast), while my youngest enjoyed the chocolate chip pancakes which were nothing short of fantastic. Our server was lackluster (at best), as a result of being spread thin working the patio as well as the FOH patio area we dined at, but I saw other waiters who were exceptional (and who on a few occasions jumped in to help our floundering waiter). You come here for the views though, more than anything, and these don't disappoint. The young and perky host was a great welcome to the place that delivered on the food, at a value that didn't disappoint with a long-lasting memorable view.
Decent food, over priced. Everyone there was nice but food was just decent.
Also, we were seated at 10AM and I wasn't "allowed" to order a mimosa until 11AM which is really lame... I'm on vacation and I can't even order a mimosa with my breakfast?? How are you going to turn down business like that? Very strange.
Brockton Villa is one of our favorite breakfast spots. The location/views are spectacular and they have the best eggs Benedict we have found in San Diego. Their signature coast toast is amazing as well! The only thing we wish they had would be the option to have a mimosa with breakfast for the special occasions.
We went to celebrate our anniversary, charming place, been there for pretty good brunch in the past.
As far as dinner, the daily special, blackened scallops, they were cooked yet lacked sear, the blackening spice mix seamed to be smeared on the cooked scallops. Flavor was reasonable, definitely not special. My wife had the steamed mussels that were quite nice. For entree my wife had the cioppino which was decent while I ordered the filet mignon asking for rare, cold in the middle. The steak arrived at what I consider well done or rather way overcooked stage. Upon sending it back the waiter followed by the manager explained that per orders by the owners the meat has to be at least at 120F. I can understand such restriction with a hamburger that is not ground to order, yet fillet mignon???? I wonder about the quality of the purchased meat. The replacement course of salmon was boring. Will not be back. Shame, the place has a great location and view. Very disappointing culinary experience.
