Broadway by Amar Santana Ratings and Reviews
What a way to start the evening. We were greeted by Chef Amar and GM Ahmed. The food as always was amazing as always starting with Brussels Sprouts and Oysters and Hamachi. Suddenly we each had a hamburger slider in front of us compliments of Chef Amar. For the main course Bouillabaisse. Desert had to be the delicious Pannacotta. Rather than critique each course I will simply say all were fantastic. We will be back soon.
A great foody restaurant. If you can sit at the kitchen bar to watch the Chefs prepare your meal. Outstanding food in the "Wow, each bite is a gastronomic experience" category. Expensive but worth it. Excellent entrees but sometimes whey even go there when the appetizers are so good. Not someplace I would go every week, but for that occasional "foody" experience and "wow" factor it is outstanding.
One of the better meals I've had in quite a while. Everything we had-- from the raviolo to the pork belly to the pierogi to the skirt steak-- was amazing. My whole branzino ranked among the two or three best pieces of fish I've ever had. There's nothing ostentatious about this place-- just wonderful food in a cozy, familial atmosphere. Highly recommended.
Food was good and well done - a foodie's delight. Art work is beautiful on the walls. Wait staff top-notch. The ambiance - not so good for a couple. Maybe better for a foursome. The tiny tables that can barely fit your food and drinks -- jammed packed in to get as many tables as they can - they are literally 6 inches apart from each other. Don't count on having any type of private conversation if you are going with your date. The waiter had to hike the food over my husband's shoulder when it was delivered to the table so as to not to disturb the people on either side and I would have to warn him that it was coming so he wouldn't make any sudden moves. To get out of my seat on the bench side, the waiter had to ask my husband to stand up so he can push it back towards the aisle - very awkward. The bar stools at the bar when someone moved them made an awful jarring sound and every patron would whip their head around to see what it was - strange, because this is any easy fix folks. This place has been open a while now, and the place is obviously doing very well and has rave reviews, but it is a shame that they can't fix the ambiance and design side of things or sacrifice a few tables for people to enjoy the food and their company more.
This was my first visit to Broadway. Our first seating was next to the door and a bit of foot traffic. I was on a first date and asked for another table which they did instantly without making me feel like I was putting them out. The meal was original and spectacular. I eat out several times a month and this was a top 5 meal in the last decade of dining out for me. Our waitress recommended the Sauterne to go with our dessert and it was truly memorable. I will be back. Thanks Amar!
Amazing experience from the time we arrived until they told us good night as we left.
The food was over the top delicious starting with Brussels Sprouts and finishing with desert.
If you like a pork chop theirs is amazing as is the Halibut. Somehow we had a Ravioli stuffed with a egg. Combined with the sauces all I can say is it was over the top good. Want a really great desert you must have the bee hive. If you think someone will share it with you. Wrong.
In my humble opinion you will be hard pressed to find a better restaurant any where in this area.
What can I say I am a huge fan, this was the best food I have had in a long time. I was looking for something as great as some of my favorite restaurants and this one has easily taken the lead. The scallops were perfection along with the brussel sprouts...WOW. Desserts were incredible too.
I've been to Broadway and Amar Santana's other restaurant Vaca. The food was good this time but not great like the other times I have been to his restaurants. My scallops were over cooked so that took away from the rest of the dish which was great. The Honey Bee hive dessert was incredible. My husband had the pork chop and it was ok. Tasted more like ham than a pork chop.
The food at Vaca is definitely much better. Also, $12 for a handful of shoestring fries is truly ridiculous.
It as my friends first time to “The Broadway”. She and I both had a outstanding meal. Once again Amar and Ahmed have outdone themselves with good food and service.
It is always fun to sit at the Chefs Counter and watch chef Jamie and his team put out all the wonderfully appointed and tasty dishes.
Sure makes for a great evening of good food and conversation.
Considering the chef has won many accolades, I found the food rather unexciting. The ceviche appetizer was bland, swimming in avocado sauce. My scallops were overpowered by a tapenade sauce. My husband s chicken terrine had no flavor, a heavy block of greasy chicken. His steak was ok, but that should be a no brainer. Every time someone exits the bar on their barstool it makes a noise like nails on a blackboard. The place is super loud.
Our waitress was nice and efficient.
First of all, be prepared to have a "close encounter" with people sitting at tables next to you, and you should expect a very noisy setting. Tables are set so tightly together, you will need to move the tables whenever someone needs to go for a bathroom break. Even though most patrons are polite, some will be very loud (probably a bit drunk.) We were having a birthday dinner so not much a problem.. but probably won't come here for business or with my parents or older friends.
Food in general was average, but some dishes do stand out. The octopus appetizer was grilled and charred perfectly, but the pork belly appetizer and the baby gem salad were yummy but just average. For dinner, we had the halibut and the lamb neck pasta. Again, they tasted fine, but lackluster (esp the pasta). For dessert, we had the panna cotta, which was the highlight of the evening, yummy unique and quite enjoyable.
As for service, they were attentive and quick in response. However, with the tight setting, during several occasions, when the waitpersons were cleaning the tables next to us, their behinds were right in our faces. Also, their tables were small. So, if you order more than one dish per person, which we did when we ordered several appetizers and salad to share, then it became a mess, and your plates and utensils are all over the table.
Amazing !!!!! truly a fine dining experience
Also he ambiance was perfect not to dark and the lighting and the lamps where lovely .
The artwork hangin on the walls was outstanding and the incredible amount of detail in the service was impeccable. I’m for sure coming back for dinner
By the way I drove 1 hr and 45 min to have dinner at broadway
And the drive was worth
Thank you broadway
thanks to the cooks and the chef
Also as the Managers on duty great job
The best food I've had in O.C. in a long time. Genuinely delicious appetizers/small plates and fantastically simple, yet simply fantastic entrees. Have ordered, practically, every appetizer dish on the menu, and then re-ordered a couple more. Grilled Spanish Octopus - excellent! Pork Cheeks - zany, spicy, and absolutely delicious! EGG YOLK RAVIOLO - yummy (ordered again). CHICKEN LIVERS - just like my grandma used to make them. MISO GLAZED FOIE GRAS - loved it; (hope that nonsense with banning this delicacy is not going to be resurrected, ever). ROASTED BEEF BONE MARROW - daydreaming about it! BABY KALE CAESAR SALAD - very, very nice, but would love to see real Anchovies added to the Caesar dressing (and, maybe, make the dressing table-side, no?). ROASTED BEET SALAD - not bad; could be improved... by, perhaps, introducing some contrast in terms of temperature of the beets, allowing the beets to have a real roasted taste, feel, texture (maybe?). PAN ROASTED MAINE SEA SCALLOPS, GRILLED MARINATED PRIME SKIRT STEAK, and HERB ROASTED MEDITERRANEAN BRANZINO - all were deliciously satisfying; simple (non-obtrusive) presentation belies multi-layered taste treat. Very happy to see that Broadway has not fallen for the unfortunately pervasive culinary trend, which seems to consist of smothering every dish in a cloyingly sweet sauce. Be strong, AMAR SANTANA! Continue feeding us with the deliciousness of your honest cuisine!
There is a reason why Amar Santana is one of the most celebrated chefs. The food, service and ambiance was outstanding. The staff was welcoming and made our evening enjoyable. My wife and I have been to several Michelin star restaurants and rated Broadway on par and above some of those restaurants.
Spent the evening with friends for our anniversary. Sat at 9:15 and left at 12:30. The food was delicious as always. We enjoyed bone marrow, ravioli, endive and beat salad, foie grass and skirt steak. Table was a high top right at the window, nice open feeling.
All good. Highly recommended - but - the bench (side by side) seating along one wall is way too crowded. I get that the more dinners they serve, the better their results but it's so tight that it's like you sitting WITH those next to you. So go with 4 so you can get a dining table or sit at the bar or go on a Tuesday so you have some breathing room. Other than that, Janice (server) great, Michael (wine) great, food really good and original. One nice this is that they will open any bottle for half price when you buy two glasses.
The food here is excellent! My favorites are the hamachi, scallops, Halibut, and recently their fall Foie Gras dish. Honestly you can't go wrong with any of their dishes. It just depends on your preferences. The food is tapas style so it is mean to be shared but honestly a few bites isn't enough since the food is so good! I think the best way to describe all the food is that it is always consistent, the flavors are well balanced, and they do put a lot of thought into the dish. Each ingredient really adds to the flavor of the overall dish. My wife and I absolutely love this place.
We've heard a lot about Broadway and happy we were able to dine here on one of our staycations to Laguna Beach. The food was delicious. My hubby had a hard time picking from the first course as there were so many good options. Next time we'll order multiple first course options for dinner! We had the hamachi sashimi for first course, Beeler pork chop and the monkfish/squid special for dinner. We shared a lovely light dessert - vanilla bean panacotta.
The occasion was my birthday and at the recommendation of a friend. The decor and ambiance was appealing and comfortable. There was a moderate noise level and the tables were quite close together. The food was tasty and well prepared and several options were available. My biggest complaint was the value and price. Essentially, the meals were overpriced by perhaps $10 per meal. The branzinni (bass) I had was well prepared but not for $36.00. There were no extras i.e. artisan breads or other condiments either. Most likely, I would not go here again for dinner; cocktails maybe.
