Licensed in 1681, The Broad Axe Tavern is America's oldest tavern. The menu offers a large selection of tavern favorites including "fall off the bone" BBQ ribs, steaks and seafood. Guest favorites are the Best of Philly finalist - Axe Burger, the Kobe Burger and the Legend sandwich. Many other style burgers, a seasonal menu, a gluten free menu and delicious dessert selections are also available.
The Broad Axe is also a great place to meet for refreshments and bar foods. There are 24 taps serving a constantly changing selection of craft beers. In addition, there are over 100 of the best bottled beers from around the world including the largest selection of gluten free beers in the area. High quality wine selections are featured at all price points. You will also find a large selection of vodkas, bourbons and scotches along with daily drink specials.

The restaurant and bar were hopping with families and corporate parties/dinners. We grabbed sandwiches and appetizers and all were delicious. Service was excellent in spite of large crowd.

Service was slow. Only 2 servers for the entire restaurant. Drinks were not refilled quickly. Had to ask for refills and check a number of times. Food was ok - nothing special. maybe ok for a casual lunch but not for a group of friends getting together for the holidays

Always mediocre food (at best) but we keep going back hoping for a better meal. Burger was so greasy it was falling apart and how could a burger come out just warm as though it had been sitting. Beer list is admirable though the waiter didn’t know they carry a light beer that’s on the menu.

We've been going to the Broad Axe for years, and have never been disappointed. We love the fact that they're open on holidays, like Thanksgiving and Easter, but it's just a great place to go anytime. Amazing beer selection and great food.

This was our second year visiting the Broad Axe for Thanksgiving. My husband and I love the holiday menu they serve. The only minor issue was that we were seated next to the stairs and had to listen to people stomping up and down. They were full and had to seat people in the bar area. But we still really enjoyed our visit.

JESSICA helped to make our Thanksgiving brunch a success. She was prompt, attentive to our different family members needs, efficient, and very pleasant. The special thanksgiving menu provided a good variety of choices both traditional and novel as well as vegetarian options. The food was well prepared and we all enjoyed our brunch. The beer menu was extensive and those of us who tried some enjoyed the wide variety of beers as well.

Returned to one of our favorite locations we have been going to for the last 40 plus years. Was so happy to see they were filled with happy diners. We generally go for their terrific burgers, both beef and turkey and we're not disappointed. Great toppings and easy to adjust for my grain free low carb way of life. Look forward to returning soon.

A girlfriend and I met here for lunch and we were thrilled with our meals. I had a jalapeño and cooked onion burger without a bun and side salad that was outstanding. My friend had a fabulous salad that she couldn’t finish but took home because it was so good. I will definitely go back with my husband.
