Broad Axe Tavern Ratings and Reviews
A girlfriend and I met here for lunch and we were thrilled with our meals. I had a jalapeño and cooked onion burger without a bun and side salad that was outstanding. My friend had a fabulous salad that she couldn’t finish but took home because it was so good. I will definitely go back with my husband.
My wife and I always enjoy eating at Broad Axe. We prefer the dining area on the bar side ..especially for the booths...However, the bar side can get a bit loude if it fills up. Otherwise we have always had excellent service and food at a very reasonable price. I especially love the Broad Axe Fried Chicken dinner.....oh and the Crab Fondue....you have to try that...amazing...
Broad Axe is somewhere we go occasionally with our kids and it's good for that. Beer list is very good. Food is hit or miss but never terrific. Service is hit or miss as well. During the most recent visit the server was unsure of if answers to 2 menu item questions. The history of the place is awesome I just wish the food and serve matched.
Hosted a 10 person birthday dinner here for my Mom. Everyone in the party loved it. The menu has a wide variety of choices (and price points), there is an excellent selection of craft beer, the service is warm and friendly and the restaurant is one of the oldest in the country, so a beautiful colonial feel to it. I would definitely recommend the Broad Axe to anyone.
We went here on a moments notice, we could not get a reservation at a few other spots last minute so we decided to go here, we have not been to Broad Axe in over a year. This was a good choice, good food, excellent service. Party of 3, one beet salad, 1 cheeseburger sliders and one fried chicken sandwich. The food was good, salad and burgers were tasty, chicken sandwich was outstanding. Prices for the food and wine were spot on, not too expensive at all.
The service was great, our waitress was excellent! We even forgot our umbrella when we left and she ran out to our car while we were leaving!
I've been to the Broad Axe on several occasions. This was the first time I went for brunch. I have enjoyed the Broad Axe when I've gone for happy hour, good beer/drinks, good appetizers, good pricing. I would not recommend the Broad Axe for brunch though. They do not have a brunch drink menu which I found very interesting. Their food was so so. I felt as though I could have my my breakfast myself at home and it would have been better than what I had for brunch when I was there. Their breakfast potatoes were cold and honestly not that good.
Bottom line, Broad Axe is great for dinner, and happy hour, but stay away for brunch. There are much better options in the area.
Very fun dinner out for Father's Day with family of 4. Menu is slightly weighted toward burgers/sandwiches but a good variety nonetheless.
Very ample beer selection in both draft and bottles. Flights are available too. We have been here before and will be back. We highly recommend.
Food and service were very good. Ambiance was lacking but that may be because we were seated in a side room next to the window where servers picked up their food and the room was very plain. It looked like there was another room /bar area that was more interesting. Very good beer selection. Food selection was also very good.
We have been to The Broad Axe several times and have been very pleased with our visits. We went their for Mother's Day 2017 dinner at 3:00 PM with reservations. We were greeted at the door at 3:00 PM and told that they were not ready to seat anyone at that point. We and two other groups had to wait about 15-20 minutes before we could even be seated, despite the fact that the area where were eventually sat in was empty. It seemed as if they weren't prepared for people to come in at that time, even though we all had reservations. One other group was turned away because they didn't have a reservation. Our server and food runner were good, but the food was just average at best today. During our meal, a hostess (young girl in short black dress) spent almost 20 minutes DRAGGING tables and chairs around in our room (upstairs room by the stairway) setting up for a large party that didn't even show up while we were there. I can't even begin to tell you how distracting this was during our meal. We will give them another shot based on the previous visits. Hopefully it will be better than our visit on Mother's Day.
Took the family there for Mothers Day brunch....what an absolute ripoff. They charged $29 for a buffet that was basically only breakfast foods when it was advertised as Brunch. Many of the items were cold, there were no plates to get food and only brownies for dessert. On top of the disgraceful food offered they charged an automatic 18% gratuity FOR A BUFFET!!!
To All Concerned,
Unfortunately my family did not have a good experience at the Broadaxe Tavern on Mother's Day. From the long wait even, though we had a reservation, through the end of the meal it was disastrous. There were 9 in our party and we were on the 3rd level which had no ambiance whatsoever; it appeared that we were in the 'leftover' room. The restaurant was obviously not prepared for the crowd they received so once we were seated we couldn't start our meal because there were no plates available. When they finally brought plates they were smaller than the dinner plates we saw on the first level, requiring 2 trips to get your food. But more importantly, once we got our food we couldn't eat much of it. For example, although apologetic, the person making the omelets made them runny/raw such that my mother nor anyone else at the table could eat them. She offered to make them over again but then ran out of spinach. The chicken fingers were rubbery and the french fries were as if they had been there since the day before. We essentially paid $30 for waffles and french toast as the bacon wasn't crisp, the eggs ranchero were hard and the sandwiches which we thought were going to be available weren't. So a bust overall. And when I spoke to the manager who then spoke to the General Manager, all they agreed to do was comp my meal and my mothers meal (since it was Mother's Day). That means 7 other people had to leave hungry and go spend more money to get a meal! As the saying goes, 'Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me!' We'll not be returning and have told our friends the same...
The food was just OK. We were there for Mother's Day brunch and maybe it's because it was busy, but the buffet food appeared messy , buffet utensils should have been changed periodically, and the food quality was just OK. The waiter we had was very pleasant and attentive, although he was also extremely busy we still felt he did a great job . I may go back , but certainly not for a buffet
A friend and I, missing our mothers, went for the Mother's Day brunch. It proved a very good choice. The buffet was quite diverse, the server was both professional and friendly, the food was good, and there was no sense that they wanted us to rush and get out.
