We came here for Father’s Day. The staff was nice and the restaurant was beautiful but the food was expensive for the portion size. The burgers didn’t taste very fresh. The burgers tasted like they were frozen.
Wonderful food, friendly service and great outdoor seating on a nice day! So glad Brix is back open after the long quarantine. Can’t beat their happy hour! Everything on the menu is great - the calamari, chicken pot pie and Brix chips are ridiculous. We’ll be returning very soon to do it all again.
We came here for Fathers Day for the first time. (Also, right after the opening back up after Covid so maybe they had some kinks to workout) they gave us 3 delicious donuts when we arrived. I got the Eggs benadict. I would not recommend this to someone because they use corn cakes instead of the traditional English muffin. The corn cakes were pretty flavorless and crumbly. The hashbrowns were cold and also had zero flavor. My husband seemed to like his entree, the steak skillet. I was also disappointed with the children’s French toast. It was so soggy my toddler wouldn’t eat it. It was literally one slice of bread for $6. The menu said it came with fruit... the fruit was one small slice of orange and one small slice of strawberry not even a full strawberry. I might try this place again but not for brunch.
We have been here a couple of times and enjoy bringing new people with us to enjoy this great place.
My friends and I were sat in the large back room but had only about 6 of us. The service was incredibly slow and the waitress kept forgetting about us. We ordered bottomless mimosas but only got a couple each because her attention was elsewhere and it seems like she couldn’t have cared less about us.
By the time we got our food it was lukewarm, but good. I highly recommend reminding your waiters that there are people in the back room and to not neglect them. Everyone else was being served elsewhere and it was incredibly frustrating on our end.
Took a chance and chose Brix Tavern based on reviews and ratings. Coming up from Salem it’s always a gamble to pick something new after driving 45 miles buy We were not disappointed at all!
Service was great The menu had a nice variety and the food was fantastic. I had the shrimp and grits and it was the best I’ve ever had! My husband tried the crispy chicken and said the best part was the gravy!! The daisy cocktail with huckleberry infused vodka was scrumptious and we cannot wait to go back!!!
A very good deal for Portland Dining Month. Lots of choices and huge portions of food.
Loved the music. Food was great!
Always enjoy going to Brix wait staff whether they are your server or not will assist you. Good food and ambiance.
Excellent service and lots of choices for Portland dining month. Food was fresh and delicious and we will be back!
Food, waitress service and ambience were great; however, the hostess was unwilling to help our table with a quick and simple request
It was great but too loud to talk.
Found multiple hairs in my food. The waitress didn’t seem to care but did credit my meal.
Such great service for our large group! Delicious food and fun drinks! Highly recommend!!!
Had a bridal brunch here and it was great! Loud and not a lot of room to wait for our table, but once we were seated it was fine. Great food and delicious donuts that were complimentary and unexpected! Everyone’s orders came out rather quick and were correct.
Hello Jastha, We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed your Bridal brunch here at Brix. Thank you so much for choosing Brix to celebrate such a special occasion. We look forward to taking care of you again soon. Cheers! The Team @ Brix Tavern
Always a fun place to go for brunch! We made a reservation but still usually have to wait to be seated, though a lot less time than if we had tried to come without a reservation at all!
The service is alway outstanding when we go to Brix. The atmosphere is very warm and welcoming and it’s a nice place to go and enjoy some good food.
Thank you Senclair for your 5 star review. We are delighted to hear that you found the atmosphere here to be warm and welcoming. We look forward to serving you again soon. Cheers! The Team @ Brix Tavern
Large group and they put us in the back room and it was perfect!
Three of us ordered the prime rib (medium rare) and one ordered their's medium. The person who ordered it medium got medium. The rest of us got well done meat. What a waste of prime rib! And they tried to cover up the "mistake" with a demi glaze. What happened to to the au jus? I think they didn't want us to see that the meat was over cooked! And the table they sat us at was in an area that was very drafty. Every time the front door was opened, we got a blast of cold air. Had to wear a jacket the entire time to keep warm. And the beer wasn't even that cold.
Had a great evening visiting with my father in-law. Great food and drinks.
Hello Thorntom, Thank you so much for the 5 star review. We are delighted to here that you and your Father-in-Law enjoyed your experience here at Brix. We look forward to seeing you again soon. Cheers! The Team @ Brix Tavern
I have been to Brix before, & this time was much better. I’m not sure if that had to do with it being pretty empty this time. Food was great, mixed drinks were a bit off, & the wait staff was great, if not just short of wonderful this time. Much more accommodating, as opposed to the sass & attitude we received last time, when my girlfriends family was in town and we went to Brix. Over all, this time around it was a wonderful time with friends, good food, & great service. I’m glad we ventured back in, & I’m hoping to find consistency to match the service we received this time around.
Anniversary brunch
Our party mostly ordered off the happy hour menu and everything was tasty. Mostly basic. We had quite a few items to share and four drinks. The total bill came in at about a $100 with tip.
Okay experience, check-in was a bit chaotic (one person running the front desk while trying to figure out if tables are ready, and answering the phone), but once we got seated, service got more collected. Food was okay and the prices were nice (Happy Hour). Not a special experience and I am not sure if would go back, but there was nothing wrong with it either.
Adequate food overshadowed by abysmal service - disappointing at best.
Updated Review: Normal dining occasions at Brix is usually great for me and my party. Didn’t have the best experience originally during a Valentine’s dinner occasion due to a menu item selling out but Mary the bar manager reached out to try to make things right.
Gave Brix Tavern another try and the experience/service was definitely back to normal/better. Great for large parties, food tasted great.
The food would have been excellent, but Brix tried to serve too many customers. As a result we waited much too long for our main course and when it finally came it was undercooked.
My advice to Brix - next time make the hard choice to serve fewer customers at a higher level of excellence!
We went for valentine’s dinner. When we arrived, our table still was not ready, and it took about 30 minutes to get a table. We ordered our four course meal, the appetizers and soup were good. We were disappointed to know steak was no longer available due to popular demand (and were sad because maybe if we were seated earlier at our reservation time, we could’ve snagged the last ones). We chose two other two enticing entrees. The waiters appeared busy but did try to check in when they could. Time was getting closer to our planned comedy show at Helium at 10pm, so by 9:30pm, we pulled our waitress aside to inquire about when our food would be ready since it had been a while. She said unfortunately another 20 minutes (it had been almost an hour by this point). Sadly, we said we could not eat it in time. She spoke with the manager, and she said the food will be at no cost up until now, which we really appreciated. Everyone was apologetic about us not getting the “Valentine’s Day” experience we were looking forward to.
I also want to note I really appreciated Mary reaching out offering to make things right by mailing us a gift card. That alone makes me feel understood for the situation and no bad feelings! Especially since I was not expecting that kind of customership. Everything else aside, that alone makes me feel Brix Tavern’s customer service is five stars. And I do enjoy the ambiance and food there during my other visits. Thank you, Mary for the gift card! We will come back, just maybe not on a planned menu/special occasion type of evening. :)
Went for Valentine’s Day. Good food, weird set up. I was told, they were out of steak, and then 3 people were served steak, that showed up after me. Not a great feeling when trying a new place. Paying a higher price tag doesn’t always mean a higher experience. Would go back in the future though. Give it another shot.
Went for Valentine's Day. They were promoting a special, for course meal. Food was not worth the price. Table was in a row of tables near the door, every time for opened the wind blew in, vary uncomfortable! Asked to switch table, but staff seemed stuck on where they could seat people, maybe those who were there for the specials? Food was only ok, in hind sight should have ordered off regular menu it would have been cheeper.
The meal was way too expensive and everything served was mediocre. We waited 45 minutes for an entree and it was cold by the time it was at our table. Do not recommend.
Ok food and service.
Valentine’s Day probably wasn’t the best day to try this place out. Most of our meal was pretty good, but the steak was bad. Like, embarrassingly bad. And the “desert bar” wasn’t good either.
It was Valentine’s Day. The tables were a lot closer together to accommodate more guests. The fixed menu options were great. The steak was really good and cooked perfectly. The dessert bar was disappointing, but didn’t ruin the evening. Overall, we had a fantastic experience. Thank you.
I have been there several times and this time I made it an outing for the residents where I work.... they loved it!!
Tasty food. Excellent service. Nice ambiance. Highly recommended.
Great food, service, and prices! However, even with a reservation multiple days in advance, the seating setup they chose for a group of 12 was terrible (one long straight table with a very rounded bench on one side) meaning those on the ends had the table 2 inches from them while those in the middle had to reach about 20-22 inches away to get to their plate. Those on either end could not communicate verbally due to the distance and the "energetic" environment. Would not recommend large groups without reserving the private space. Otherwise, 5 stars!
Great service! Unfortunately my food came out cold.
Such horrible service. I highly recommend skipping this waste of money and going to nearby Bluehour or ByWays Cafe in the same neighborhood, for faster service and food that will actually blow you away! :)
We had a reservation for 12pm, just 2 people. I was on a brunch date and we arrived early, at 11:50. By 12:25 we had seen multiple groups of 2, 4, 6, even 8 get seated. I politely asked why we were waiting so long and the hostess told me “some people were waiting much longer.” Well... I was watching you seat people for 30 minutes while ignoring me so I didn’t see anybody else waiting like we did. Rude hostess and unacceptable service.
We went to blue hour and had an amazing brunch, and they were more than happy to swipe my date’s card for our brunch and cocktails. :) GO THERE INSTEAD!
Food was great, mimosas were great, wonderful atmosphere. However, I had a friend who is allergic to citrus and they wouldn’t substitute another juice for her mimosas. She had to instead buy a full bottle of champagne for $35 when we all got bottomless mimosas for $9. That was very upsetting.
