My husband and I have eaten here several times for special occasions. We came with out of town guests in January. I ordered the filet mingon cooked medium. It was barely pink inside. We went again this past weekend and I ordered it again cooked medium. It was brown all the way through, except when I got to the middle of it the lower half was barely pink. If I'm paying nearly $50 for a piece of meat, it should be cooked perfectly.
When we were out with guests, I didn't want to complain. The second time we were under a time constraint and I didn't want to wait for another filet to be cooked.
I can't recommend this restaurant for anything because we never got our food. We had reservations and were on time . We were seated at a table that was not even set. Our waitress walked by and looked at us 3-5 times and never said a word then eventually came and didn't give us water but asked for our drink orders, After 2 tables seated after us already had their water and drink orders in, she then took about ten minutes to bring us water and then asked us if we were ready to order. We had been ready for 30 minutes. We ordered a cheese plate and chicken nugget appetizer and 2 cheeseburgers and fries. About 20 minutes after ordering we received our bread basket. After about another 30 minutes we received our appetizers. We then waited approximately 45 minutes and still didn't have our food which again was burgers and fries. I then asked for the check and when she brought it she said our food would be ready in a few minutes (not sure what that meant) but I told her we were full and it was late and we didn't want to wait. We paid and left. I then did report it to the night manager who apologized and removed the bill from my room and later sent me an apology gift. He handled it wonderfully but I have to say I have NEVER received such bad service from a Four Seasons and expect better service when I'm paying $600 per night. I love the Four Seasons but if I return to Boston I would never stay here again. When I pay that much I expect great service and other than the concierges (who were fantastic, Joe and Walter) the service here was as average as a Marriott or even worse than some of the Marriot hotels I have stayed at for triple the price. Would never stay here again if I returned to Boston.
Had lunch for four on a Saturday with the window table that we requested. The food was mostly good and our server was fun, attentive and had a good sense of humor. Prices are very high for what you get, but then that's the Four Seasons. I was surprised that the dining room felt drab and out of date and the server's uniform was a bit ripped and dirty, and his shirt partly untucked. Definitely not a typical high-end Four Seasons feel, which was disappointing since I was treating my elderly mother, sister and niece to an extra nice lunch in Boston. I chose it for the view of the Public Garden, the quiet atmosphere (for my mother) and its innate elegance. Only the last criteria wasn't delivered.
We've had some memorable meals at private parties and weddings at the Four Seasons, including our own wedding, as well as fabulous meals at the former Aujourd'Hui. This, however was our first time at The Bristol for Sunday Brunch. Disappointing is putting in mildly. For $75 per person, the choices were pathetic. Mostly a variety of breakfast foods, eggs, pancakes, oatmeal, muffins, danish. The balance consisted of a few salads, very ordinary, one fish dish in curry (which I don't care for) with only two vegetables, curried cauliflower and some carrots A single selection of some kind of pasta alfredo I think, totally dried out. A very limited fruit tray, fresh shrimp (terrific!), smoked salmon and three kinds of Chinese raviolis, steamed. The prime rib was okay and the other meat selection was some kind of pork. No potato (except with the corned beef hash) no rice, no sushi. no pates. The dessert table held a variety of very small cupcake type desserts. Not a single chocolate dessert, no pies, no cakes, no mousse nor even a brûlée. We've been to dozens of upscale early in the day buffets around the country and the world and have never seen the selection so pitiful for so much money.
Dinner was good for the meat lovers I was the only vegetarian with very limited options except soup and salad . They were generous with bread basket . Ambiance was louder than we would like with few screaming kids which made the special occasion not special !!! May be good for every day running
It was not Four Seasons service. The bartender viciously shook our martinis, which the cocktail waiter proceeded to garnished wrong, making it necessary to remake them. He insisted on giving us the original "wet" rocks that we had requested, not replacing them with the fresh ones from the remade drinks.
We took the table directly from the bar, which we communicated to the host on the way in, and to the server who seated us in her section; neither of whom closed the loop with the Open Table reservation.
Excellent burger, which is what we went there for in the first place. Good thing, because the service was sub-par.
My initial invite was to connect with friends over Afternoon Tea - I did not realize Briston no longer hosts Afternoon Tea. The Bristol team and my friends were flexible and we selected from the menu - just a different expectation, but still a delightful time.
The Bristol Lounge has been a holiday family tradition for 18 years. We will
no longer be continuing our tradition.
The service and food at the Bristol Lounge were both appalling . When I mentioned to friends who frequent the Bristol, they were not surprised by our experience. It seems to have rapidly gone down hill In both food and service. To give an indicator of just how bad the food was, my appetizer Wedge Salad was filled with “bacos “ and “funions “ (see pic below) I have never, ever taken a pic of any meal-good or Bad-so the fact that I did have to take a pic of just how bad the food was speaks volumes!
Drinks alone would probably be the best choice for this spot!
I invited an old friend who was visiting - for a trip to MGH - to have lunch the Wednesday before Christmas. It was festive and enjoyable. We had reservations for 1:00 and were seated at about 1:10. Service was a little slow but very friendly and helpful. We said we weren't in a rush and were fine taking it slow. It was a busy holiday time. Yhings did proceed slowly but it was fine.
Food was excellent, as were cocktails. Prices weren't as bad as I had feared. Our waiter was great.
Unfortunately, we were told at 2:15 (one hour after sitting down) that there was a "Teddy Bear Luncheon" for kids and their parents at 3:00, and that we would have to leave before 3:00.
My friend was in from California to get treatment for her metastatic cancer, which leaves her with limited time remaining. This lunch was a big deal for us. I paid $27+ dollars to use the valet parking so we could not worry about feeding a meter. And suddenly some velvet-clothed little kids force us to rush through our meal to make room for them - with no mention of this when I made the reservation (by phone)??? I made those reservations 6 weeks beforehand - and would have chosen an earlier time had someone mentioned this 3 p.m. takeover.
This soured the whole experience for me - as you can imagine. I am really sad this happened and, frankly, disappointed with my very first experience at the Bristol/Four Seasons. My friend was okay, and we had a nice lunch. But to hurry us through at such a time....was ghastly.
The food was excellent - that has not changed. However, I have been to the Bristol Lounge many many times over the years and this was a pretty disappointing experience. The service was okay. The staff were very polite, but not terribly good at their jobs. At least three times they brought food to the table and delivered it to the wrong person. In the past I have experienced exemplary service that stood up to the very high prices for the food. I don't mind the price when everything is perfect. But when a 5 star hotel is delivering 3 star service, it just does not stand up. There were also food items listed on the menu were not available. And when I visited the bathroom, there was nowhere to hang up my jacket.
That all said, our family enjoyed our time. I think we will try the Ritz next time.
We have attended or held many events at the 4 Seasons and none, including the Bristol Lounge, have ever disappointed. It has become our neighborhood place to go for a weekend lunch. a family dinner or business meetings. I can't imagine where we would go if it didn't exist.
Thanks to all the employees, from the front door to the manager, who are always welcoming and truly professional.
Bristol provides an elegant venue for entertaining visitors. We dined with excellent service and lovely views of Boston Public Garden. Our waiter, Ricardo, steered us graciously toward Brunch menu items suiting our tastes and mood. Bristol has become one of our top "go-to" venues for special occasions in downtown Boston.
We had a pleasant experience. The hotel lobby is beautifully decorated for Christmas & gets you in the festive mood.
We got there fairly early for lunch (11:20am) & ordered salad and hamburger. The salad came out first, however it took quite some time for the burger to come out. I had allocated a good 1 & 1/2 hours for lunch (pre-ballet show). However, we were pressed for time. I wanted to treat my daughter to dessert afterwards. But, we ran out of time, it was 1 PM when we finished & paid (no time for dessert or coffee, maybe its a good thing, less calories to consume). Our waiter was pleasant & professional. However, i was slightly disappointed that the large party next to us came in after us & they were served and left before us. While we were there hoping to order a sweet treat, but would have missed the nutcracker show if we did.
They have a good kids menu. My daughter had caesar salad & chicken with carrots & potatoes. Good quality comfort food.
Next time I will allocate 2 hours for a relaxing lunch! They certainly didn't rush us.
Excellent food, excellent service in a cozy, intimate atmosphere. Warm fire glowing, tables spaced so you can move and hear each other speaking. Way better than overcrowded local favorites. A gem in the heart of the busy city, thank you for an excellent evening!
The food was superb: skate wing was perfectly prepared and delicious, clam chowder as good as any I’ve had anywhere (including the best on the Cape), mussels were cooked to perfection, and the
deserts (creme brûlée and flourless chocolate cake - gluten free for my friend) were delicious. If I could give the experience six stars, I would. 1 1/2 hrs after closing, the service continued to be gracious, unhurried, and as Old World perfect as it had been all night. It doesn’t get any better than this. Bravo!
We have been coming to the Bristol Lounge for years for both personal and professional gatherings .We love it!
The service has been terrific and we want to commend Biaggio our favorite waiter for his excellent service . He is professional, knowledgeable, remembers our food and drink preferences and always provides a fantastic food recommendation when we need it.
His sense of humor is spectacular. Biaggio should be commended by the Bristol Lounge Administrators for his superb professionalism.
