Brio - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
Have been here a number of times and enjoyed each occasion. While it sounds cliché, it is something of a hidden gem as it doesn't stand out much from the outside.
It could best be described as a neighbourhood joint given its friendly atmosphere and what seemingly looks like locals coming and going. Good wine also
Can recommend Pizza, pasta or their mussels. Will def. be returning
I first enjoyed how quiet and not terribly busy this location was, until I realized why. My party didn't feel welcome at all. He questioned a couple of our orders and tried to push other items on us. Felt awkward. Too many restaurants in NYC to go back to this one again.
I enjoyed lunch here the other day with my friend. We shared a salad with chicken, corn and tomatoes which was nice. The really unbelievable thing was the pumpkin (or butternut squash..can't remember) ravioli in a parmigiano/butter sauce. Really incredible!
I had a young friend who I did a favor for and he wanted to take me out to dinner and knowing the budget was low for my friend I made sure I looked at the menu's and their prices before I booked. I was furious when we got to the restaurant and their menu had gone up drastically. If it was only ten percent but it was over 25% increase so be aware they have increased their prices but have not bothered to change it on their web site. For that alone I would not go back. Could not believe as an appetizer salad was $19.50 I have not paid for a salad at that price at the best restaurants in town let alone a small bistro!!.
I've come to brio in the past but just for Tea/Coffee and it has been on my list to try for lunch. I did so last weekend and it was ok.
I arrived before my lunch date and barely received any attention from the wait staff. I had to flag someone down to take my food order. I ordered the Pollo Rustico and it tasted "meh". Maybe I should've tried something else.
I plan to give this place another shot in the future.
Went there on Saturday for dinner with some NYCer's who really knew NY (5 of us). Brio hit on all cylinders -- some of the best pasta, pizza, seafood dishes you will find in NYC. Hip/cool vibe in restaurant, all servers were spot on. They really didn't miss a beat -- I'd stack them against any four-star restaurant I've ever been to (and that's a lot). Don't hesitate! Not sure who the Chef is, but they're amazing!
We enjoyed our entrees, mine an amazing ribbon pasta with mushrooms, cherry tomatoes and crumbled sausages.
My good friend has a vegetable dish, with pasta, which she said was great.
We split a green salad, also good.
Our drinks were delivered quickly and our waitress was very helpful with the selections.
I used a restaurant.com coupon, which they accepted with no problem (and we tipped on the original total, of course).
For dessert, we had tiramisu and a gelato with espresso poured on it. (The gelato was a mistake because the espresso melted the gelato, making it more of a shake than a solid serving.)
Overall, we had a wonderful experience, and I will recommend it to others!
After a long hard day this place delivers a cozy welcoming experience serving very well prepared and delicious food… It is one of the best casual Italian's in the area… There's a reason others have come and gone and these guys have been here ever since I can remember!
We had a lovely dinner, good service, and I will certainly go back to Brio. There is outdoor dining, and it would have been a perfect evening to sit outside, but the tables are on the sidewalk at a busy corner with lots of traffic. We chose to sit indoors with comfortable a/c and no horns honking.
they added more tables and its very busy but the service doesn't keep up....they dont clear tables before the next course..wine takes forever to arrive (recently moved the bar)...we saw a couple of bad spills by waiters of food all over the diners....the prices are not low so one expects a certain amt of service and until recently it was fine....hope it doesn't stay like this b/c we love this restaurant.
Food is consistently good and fit for foodies. A go-to in midtown east especially in a pinch or when shopping. Service is subpar in the bar area simply because its too busy - I dont recommend ordering entrees at the bar. Waitstaff is semi-attentive and definitely not the friendliest.
One waiter rolled his eyes because I placed my purse on an empty chair in an empty restaurant...give me a break.
Food is good. Had Sunday brunch here twice. The salmon entree with sauted spinach was very good. The four cheese pizza looked better than it was, although it was fine with a mixed salad. I wouldn't go for a special occasion, but it is a fine choice for a good, reasonable meal, especially for lunch or brunch on the weekend. The service was spotty, and some of the rattan chairs are extremely uncomfortable. They happily switched the chairs for us to a more cushioned style. I would definitely recommend as stated above. Would probably even try for an informal neighborhood dinner.
The food was great and the waiter was sooooo accommodating in organizing the food so my friend and I could split dishes. The waiter also was great at letting us experiment with different cocktails based on us having only a small idea of what we wanted. Really fun.
