About Brigantine La Mesa
A San Diego tradition since 1969, the Brigantine has received many accolades in our 40+ year history: "BEST SEAFOOD", "BEST CASUAL SEAFOOD", "BEST HAPPY HOUR", and even "BEST SWORDFISH IN THE WORLD", according to USA Today - just to name a few.
Well-known for our signature Clam Chowder, Grilled Swordfish, and Crème Brûlée, the Brigantine is a favorite among locals for consistently fresh seafood, succulent steaks and grilled meats.
With an updated nautical decor, the busy Oyster bar is hands-down the local favorite. Lush flowering foliage outdoors creates an elegant dining experience on one of two charming patios.

Brigantine La Mesa Ratings and Reviews
Brigantine is our go-to place for a little more special get-togethers. We know the food will be good and the service has always been great. At times it can get a little noisy but by going to an earlier dinner, the less crowded restaurant has a semi-quiet ambience.
I have been going the Brig/ Top Shelf La Mesa for over 35 years and have been disappointed lately. It has almost become a sole seafood restaurant with few meat and or chicken choices. The prices have increased also. So sad as the only nice restaurant in East County.
I made the reservation earlier in the day. We arrived 15 minutes early and checked in. We were the first ones seated at 5:00. We had a booth, which was comfortable. Our server, Angel, was helpful in explaining the specials. Our food arrived at proper temperature and was very filling and flavorful. Because it was my husband's birthday, $6.50 was taken off our bill...an appreciated bonus which was unexpected. We had a large family get-together at the Brigantine in August and enjoyed it so much that we came back in November. We don't go out to eat very often. When we do, we want to go where we feel comfortable. Although the noise level was a bit high, we enjoyed our night out.
This has been our favorite East County restaurant for the past 10+ years. My friends and I frequent it often because of great food, service and value. We've never been disappointed. And they never kick us out when we've continued to visit long after the food was eaten and enjoyed.
Server did not introduce herself, she spoke too softly so we could not hear her, she talked too quickly so we could not understand the specials and had to have her repeat the offering several times, the service was poor and slow, the prime rib was tough, served cold, and came raw for requested medium rare. We will not return to this dining establishment nor recommend it. 11/14/2017
I had a dinner reservation using my Brigantine birthday coupon. Even though I had a coupon and was a table for one, my server John treated me like I was his most important table. The food was great, my favorite mahi mahi, and was followed with a slice of mud pie and coffee. Brigantine is my favorite place for special occasions or out-of-town guests. Never disappointed by the atmosphere, food, or service.
We had visited the Brigantine La Mesa on recommendation from our host and were thrilled with the experience. The waiter was attentive and the service was quick. The food was delicious and the prices are reasonable. I would definitely recommend the Brigantine La Mesa to anyone visiting the area.
Our experience was perfect. It was a busy night and the only thing that is difficult is parking.
Lucky we were able to find a space after the second go round of the lot.
We were seated immediately and our waiter, Angel Duran, was outstanding.
He was professional and catered to our needs.
We were very pleased!
The crab cake was wonderful! I just wanted a light lunch so it was perfect in size and very tasty. Sarah was attentive and very accommodating. My friends had the fish tacos and they both enjoyed them. The Brig is our go-to place for lunch with the girls as has been for years. We’ve never been disappointed!
Took some out-of-town friends to Sunday Brunch, was taken outside into the patio—at our request—and taken to a perfect corner table in the quietest part of the area; the waiter was excellent, the best we’ve ever had in the 35 years we’ve been going to La Mesa Brigantine! The food was excellent and our guests were delighted!
The Brigantine is always a very reliable and consistent place to dine. The experience is great from the moment you walk in. Service is always great and menu/drink options are always wonderful. Even though I entered we were celebrating our anniversary on the open table reservation, not one person mentioned it, so not sure if there is some disconnect with Open Table and the restaurant or the hostes don't pass on that info to the server? Anyways we had a great evening and enjoyed our food! We mostly enjoy the happy hour and bar area but for our anniversary decided to eat in the main restaurant and it was good choice!
I took my wife here for her birthday because it’s our favorite restaurant! Our meal started off with a choice of salads, soups, and other items; for the main course she had the Swordfish and I had the Salmon; both were excellent, and I highly recommend their fresh Seafood to anyone! For dessert—because it was her birthday—they served us Mud Pie! But we asked for two servings of cream brûlée to take home. This dinner was extraordinarily satisfying, and my wife was so happy I took her to the Brigantine!
Way to loud with children running every where. We had made reservations for a birthday brunch and we're seated next to Kitchen with wait staff walking in and out yelling "corner." Then when we asked what (if any) was the Military discount and the hostesses giggled at us and said; oh we don't give those."
