About Brigantine La Mesa
A San Diego tradition since 1969, the Brigantine has received many accolades in our 40+ year history: "BEST SEAFOOD", "BEST CASUAL SEAFOOD", "BEST HAPPY HOUR", and even "BEST SWORDFISH IN THE WORLD", according to USA Today - just to name a few.
Well-known for our signature Clam Chowder, Grilled Swordfish, and Crème Brûlée, the Brigantine is a favorite among locals for consistently fresh seafood, succulent steaks and grilled meats.
With an updated nautical decor, the busy Oyster bar is hands-down the local favorite. Lush flowering foliage outdoors creates an elegant dining experience on one of two charming patios.

Brigantine La Mesa Ratings and Reviews
Our group all had The Brig's famous Fish Tacos; the fish is deep fried but can be ordered grilled instead. They come with coleslaw and fries, but you can substitute green veggies. The tacos were delicious and the meal was fairly priced. We were there for lunch on a holiday and it was very quiet. The service was excellent.
Was not happy with The Brig this time. They have changed their menu and several of the items that we love are not on the menu anymore. Also, the items that they did serve were not outstanding, like they have been in the past. My husband ordered the Blue Point raw oysters and he said that were great, so he ordered another dozen and they brought out a different kind because they had ran out of the Blue Points. They did not even ask if he wanted the other kind, just brought them out. We've been dining at the Brig with our friends for years, but all of us were not happy with the changes that they have made.
We arrived early for a dinner reservation and were seated right away. The front end wait staff were excellent. Our wait time for our food was a short 15 minutes from the time we ordered. The food quality and quantity was excellent as well. The price was moderate and well worth it. All in all a great experience as it has been several years since my last dining experience at a Brigatine.
This has been our go-to place for anniversaries and birthdays for many years. This year however we were very disappointed with the food. My husbands favorite filet wrapped in bacon has been taken off the menu. He ordered the ribeye and only ate a small portion of it. It was fatty and tough. I ordered the filet medallions and they were so-so. Sad to say we will not be going back for our special meals. Our meal was $125.00 including tip. Too much for a mediocre meal. Our server was very nice however and most efficient.
Service was outstanding. We both ordered different fish dishes, they got one wrong though, didn't get the Halibut that was ordered but the fish they brought (I think it was Mahi) was very good so it was ok. Given the price, I thought the fish portions were very small, but it was well prepared and tasty. We go there once every few years, and will continue that frequency.
Once again a delightful lunch with delicious food. My friend and I shared the lobster/crab fondue to begin. Never hurried even on a busy Holiday week. Plus our sever, Ali , was attentive but not overly so and even brought the chosen dessert already shared for us . A very nice young man. Thank you.
Went out for dinner with my partner and my best friend. Love the restaurant, the food was amazing. My partner and I had the cod, it was light and fluffy with a wonder veggie mix and bacon potatoes. My best friend had the Scallops and she loved them. The drinks were great and we really enjoyed the evening. Great service and friendly people.
We went out with a group of friends that just had Birthdays. Even though we had to wait pass our reservation time we had fun at the bar. It was great just being there with friends. We often go to the one in shelter island but this one was close to all our house. Thanks for the good time. The Ybarras
It was a busy evening with a lot of people celebrating the holidays. Our server was friendly, but either super anxious or pressured to get us out as soon as possible. The steak was cooked well, but tasted the char from earlier in the day. Management comped our desserts, but it was still somewhat disappointing.
Early (5:30pm) sitting found the dinning room less crowded than previous visits, the wait staff more available and the noise level much lower. Beyond the normal menu, there was a 3 course option for early guests and four Chef Specials added to the menu for the evening.
The swordfish is the best anywhere, though I would prefer eliminating the avocado in the crab salsa garnish. Salads are crispy and delicious with exceptional dressings and croutons and good fresh bread. Actually serve chives with baked potato! And don’t miss the hand-shaken margarita. Always professional service.
Brigantine is our go-to place for a little more special get-togethers. We know the food will be good and the service has always been great. At times it can get a little noisy but by going to an earlier dinner, the less crowded restaurant has a semi-quiet ambience.
