Brigantine La Mesa Ratings and Reviews
I made a reservation for Friday February 16 at 7:00 PM for four people. We were running late so I changed it online for 7:15 PM. When we arrived, we were told there was no reservation. When the hostess checked, she said the reservations was for the following day. I had received a confirmation on my cell phone and I showed it to her. It was indeed for Friday! The hostess, Tristen, was very accommodating. She told the manager what happened and they were able to honor my reservation although they were super busy. They apologized and told me we would have to wait 30 minutes, but in less than 20 minutes we were shown to our table. It is this kind of great service that makes this one of our favorite neighborhood restaurants that we continue to visit regularly.
My husband and I took my best girlfriend for her birthday. My online reservation request of a table with a view was fulfilled. My friend had a two-lobster tail special, my husband scallops, and me the fabulous Cobb salad. We all enjoyed our meals, as well as the brussels sprouts appetizer. Service was wonderfully attentive and well-timed. Although we did not order alcohol, we did not feel at all neglected because of it. We like to come here for special occasions.
Our annual post Holiday Brunch is usually at an all-you-can eat buffet brunch. They are getting so expensive and usually a lot of "adequate" food. We decided to try the Brig instead and were not disappointed. $4 unlimited champagne!! Our waitperson Christina was the best!! The food was delish. We will definitely come back to The Brig la Mesa.
A very disappointing meal at one of our very favorite restaurants. We usually rate this restaurant 5’s; but on this occasion, the fish was horrible! We have been diners here since the Brigantine in La Mesa opened so many years ago. We usually order the swordfish, more delectable than any other venue. On this night, the fish was cooked to dark brown with black on the edges. The cook flipped it so the brown was on the bottom on both portions. These plates should never have left the kitchen. The fish was hard and dry. Our waitress, Shannon, offered to replace, but we opted for one extra portion, which was OK but not the usual moist and wonderful.
The manager made a price adjustment but never came to our table to make sure we were satisfied. Shannon was very pleasant, but somehow, the bottom line was a dinner that lasted one hour and 45 minutes while our margaritas languished over the ice ...very diluted. And the distraction of all the issues ruined what should have been a relaxed and pleasant dinner.By the way, we arrived early for our 5:15 reservation when the restaurant was almost empty. It filled up while we waited, and many people came and went and we were still waiting.
Sad to say, we will not return for awhile; the memory is a negative.
We were very disappointed in the Brigantine last Saturday night. We've gone to this restaurant for years and some visits have been better than others, but this time the food was way below our expectations. I had macadamia nut crusted Mahi-Mahi and rice pilaf. The fish was basically tasteless and the rice wasn't much better. I also put on our reservation that we were celebrating my birthday, but there was no acknowledgment of that at all. We were also less than impressed with the service. Like I said, we had reservations but when we got there the table they had for us had noisy children next door. We said we would wait for a better table and after waiting patiently for another 20 minutes we were seated in a "traffic lane" for the wait staff. I don't think we will be back.
Our group all had The Brig's famous Fish Tacos; the fish is deep fried but can be ordered grilled instead. They come with coleslaw and fries, but you can substitute green veggies. The tacos were delicious and the meal was fairly priced. We were there for lunch on a holiday and it was very quiet. The service was excellent.
Was not happy with The Brig this time. They have changed their menu and several of the items that we love are not on the menu anymore. Also, the items that they did serve were not outstanding, like they have been in the past. My husband ordered the Blue Point raw oysters and he said that were great, so he ordered another dozen and they brought out a different kind because they had ran out of the Blue Points. They did not even ask if he wanted the other kind, just brought them out. We've been dining at the Brig with our friends for years, but all of us were not happy with the changes that they have made.
We arrived early for a dinner reservation and were seated right away. The front end wait staff were excellent. Our wait time for our food was a short 15 minutes from the time we ordered. The food quality and quantity was excellent as well. The price was moderate and well worth it. All in all a great experience as it has been several years since my last dining experience at a Brigatine.
