Well-known for our signature Clam Chowder, Grilled Swordfish, and Crème Brûlée, the Brigantine is a favorite among locals for consistently fresh seafood, succulent steaks and grilled meats.
Perched between the spectacular Pacific Ocean and the hills of Rancho Santa Fe, the Del Mar Brigantine sits high above the action of the Del Mar racetrack.
A lushly landscaped garden offers an unparalleled setting for weddings and outdoor-themed events. Indoors, a formal dining room looks out to the garden through floor-to-ceiling french doors. For more casual dining, the glass-enclosed deck is a year-round favorite.
The Del Mar Brigantine serves dinner 7 nights a week, lunch Monday-Saturday, and brunch each Sunday.

Requested table with a view and were seated immediately upon arrival on a busy Sunday after thanksgiving At a window table. Food...lobster crab salad was the best..dressing exceptional. Only complaint was tha drinks were over priced for wat you got. Had specified birthday special occasion but it was never acknowledged
We sat at our table, ignored, for 15 minutes before we finally were able to flag down a waiter. Maybe the waiter thought he was making up for ignoring us for so long when we first came in because, once we ordered, the food came very fast, in fact, too fast, before we even finished our appetizers. Large tables of very loud groups nearby - our party of four had to shout across the table at each other. The food was mediocre. I'm not sure why this spot is so popular. We probably won't be back anytime soon.
The food is good and so is the view of the Del Mar Racetrack. Service is good. However, Brigantine Del Mar is fairly noisy making it a bit difficult to hear someone seated across from you. Valet parking has at least four cars in front of you when you arrive so it takes a bit of time (5 minutes or less) to get into the restaurant. Normally not a problem but coming from the North you might be hung out on the main road waiting to valet. Overall, a good restaurant, we enjoyed it.
We just moved to the neighborhood, and this was our second dining experience with once on a weekend, and the other a slow week day. Both times the the drinks were horribly slow to get to our table during the entire service, so we finally ordered a bottle of wine and asked for it to be left on the table. Regarding the food, we ordered the Halibut special this week, and it was unbelievably overcooked. We informed the waiter, and was provided a dessert. However, we would have much preferred a properly cooked fish. We are hoping that the third time will be the charm.
The meal was excellent with the exception of the filet medallions, which tho perfectly cooked, lacked seasoning and were bland. The restaurant is nice but the patrons were exceptionally loud and our party of four were barely able to hear one another speaking. Our waiter was very busy with large groups and therefore forgetful of us and our requests.
Service was poor. We literally had to track down a waiter. Prior to that, nobody from restaurant even looked at us for 15 minutes. Once we found waiter, he was helpful and courteous. Food was good. Mildly overpriced. Didn’t use valet, because in past they were rude. Overall, this place is trendy and busy and seems to rest on that a bit too much. I’d be more impressed if they actually seemed to care about service more. Might not return for quite awhile given the number of other local options.
Great fresh local seafood and beautiful views. The menu offers a lot of options for those with diverse palates. I had the SWEET & SOUR CHARRED OCTOPUS / 14.50
Fingerling potatoes, cherry tomatoes, scallions, citrus aioli, crispy pork & unagi sauce.
Overall it's worth a visit. Views of Del Mar Racetrack and the ocean are wonderful. It is too noisy for conversation at dinner. Also, the service was very fast paced, in that entrees arrived before salad course finished.
For lunch or a drink, fantastic. Dinner, not so much.
We had a party of 6 and the noise level was so loud you couldn’t talk across the table. The portions were very small —since when does fish and chips come with 2 small pieces of cod and a few fries, and the scallops with 3small scallops and a dozen peas, and the classic steakhouse burger shrunken so that it was lost in the bun? Then again, the food wasn’t very good, so I guess it didn’t matter so much that there wasn’t much of it. The saucer-sized Caesar salad had a half dozen tiny, dry, room temperature pieces of bland chicken. The ahi, inexplicably covered in won tons, was bland and unremarkable, which, I guess compared to the rest of the meals, means that it was the star.
Had GREAT evening, celebrating a birthday. We arrived a little early for our reservation, but they seated us right away. We had a fantastic view overlooking the Del Mar racetrack, and the beach, which made for a great view while eating and enjoying the evening. Our server, Todd, was excellent...making good recommendations for the dinner, then getting everything to us while it was hot. After dinner, because it was a birthday dinner, he brought over a complimentary piece of Mud Pie which we quickly devoured. It was a little noisy for our taste, but a great place to enjoy delicious seafood and a view. I would recommend it for future dinner dates.
Went with a group of Cotillion Moms while our boys were at the San Dieguito Cotillion in Del Mar. The staff was amazing! From our bartender to our waitress, very accommodating and professional. Drinks were excellent, Food was beyond delicious and we all had a great time.
Food was good & waiter was very personable. Birthday dessert very good. But 6 of us were squashed in a booth that should only seat 4. Entrees came out way too fast-- served 5 minutes after we got our salads. Table was too small for six dinner plates plus bread plates. Had to dump our salads onto our bread plates so we could finish them after dinner. Felt like we were sardines in a can. Place was a madhouse on a Tues night even though we had an early reservation trying to avoid lots of noise & confusion. People in bar area allowed their children to run through the dining room & out on the patio. Valet parking was jammed. Later learned that Tues is always busy due to reduced bar prices. So, if a nice, leisurely, quiet meal is what you want don't go here on a Tues.
Last time we go to the Brigantine! We decided to eat in the bar because the hostesses couldn't figure out how to seat us even though we had reservations. The waitress was amazingly snarky. There were a ton of kids running around the bar and the food wasn't good. We're locals and after telling friends about our experience there they told us they stay away from the place and know others who feel the same. It's disappointing because we really had liked the place in the past.
The ambiance is great with a view of the racetrack and rivermouth. Unfortunately, the pork carnitas tacos did not settle with my stomach too well the last couple of days. And, we sat down at the outside bar at 525p and finally had to go in search of the waitress at 535/540pm. We knew it was happy hour on a Sat evening but it would have been nice to at least be acknowledged.
I am so lucky to live so near the Del Mar Brigantine, and while it's close by, stepping inside the big wooden doors is like going on vacation.
My server, Chad, was helpful, friendly and very attentive. My friend and I enjoyed appetizers and were not disappointed. It was Wednesday which is half priced bottles of wine!
So much the better. Don't save this restaurant for special occasions. Make it a special occasion by going to the Brig.
A local friend of ours suggested this place and he joined us for dinner. Started out with the clam chowder which was excellent.
My wife got the Cod which was small and I had the Mahi-Mahi which was also small for the price.
Neither of us thought the food was spectacular or even memorable. Good place to try once. Certainly a locals hang out
Our dinner seemed very overpriced and not very special. I don't mind spending $$$ for a good, filling meal....my filets (2) were the size of silver dollars and the crab cakes were of similar size. Not worth the price. The view is beautiful and our waiter was very helpful and attentive. I just don't know if we'll be back.
