In Philadelphia, the taste and tradition of Italy is brought to guests of Brigantessa from the pizza masters of Napoli to the seafood-centric Puglia. The center of the restaurant is a large brick oven created by Italian craftsmen and from which nearly all the dishes at Brigantessa are cooked. The welcoming servers, the warm atmosphere and the unpretentious food create an excellent dining experience.
The pizza Napolitano, created in 1889, made of basil, tomato and fresh mozzarella is representative of the red, white and green Italian flag. Brigantessa creates the pizza Napolitano with the same precision and affection for pizza greatness as those Italian ancestors who created it. Other menu items include antipasti, and two course options such as gnocchi or lasagna with braised goat or grilled swordfish.
Food was delicious, out quickly, and full of flavor! Our waiter Sean was a delight.
As always a great dinner.
On our very first impression, we were seated by a woman who was dressed as if she was cleaning her house. Her sneakers were filthy. Our food was taken to our table by a woman who was very rude. However our waitress was fantastic and the food was excellent. We would definitely go back but highly suggest that the front of the house staff be retrained.
Went here and sat at high top next to street! Great pasta as usual and the best Brussel sprouts I ever had ! With the Calabrian Chile ! I can taste it now ! I’ll be back!
We wanted to bring our visiting California friends to a great Philadelphia restaurant in a real neighborhood. Brigantessa made Philly shine! The pizza was out of this world and our friends said the Brussels sprouts were the best they’ve ever had. Nice wine selection, too!
Early dinner before we headed to Citizens Bank Park for a baseball game. Waitress Katie was great and the food was delicious.
2nd visit to the restaurant. Pizza & entrees arrived before appetizers. Great waiter who recommended drinks and entrees. Extremely noisy. Deserts were above average. 3 out of 4 pizzas ordered were just average .
Casual setting with excellent pizza- seriously this stuff is good. Wait staff was friendly, accommodating and helpful.
One of the best spots in the city. Pizza is incredible. Try the brussel sprouts.
Wish that the portion sizes were a little larger for the price paid, but the food was delicious and the service was great.
Food was just great! Every dish was delicious and creative. Service impeccable. One of the best in Philadelphia.
Grab a seat at the counter, wood fired pizza oven at the ready. Strike up a conversation with the pizzaioli as they make your pizza. Takes about 2 mins tops to bake. Also able to whip up a tasty bowl of bucatini and fresh tomato sauce for one of my kids. So good!
A great spot Inn south Philly with awesome food and service. Would totally recommend to others!!
Delightful atmosphere, low-key but with delicious food! From the olive oil bread onward!
Loved it! Music was a little to loud.
Lively atmosphere good for conversation. Small plates are fun to share and try an assortment of dishes. Pastas are delicious and flavorful.
Went out to catch up with some friends over pasta, pizza, and wine, and came to the right place. Casual, not overpriced, not overly crowded, and simply delicious.
Good food, moderate prices, nice atmosphere. I have enjoyed my experiences
Two couples, pre-show, for an easy meal. We went early and were the first in the door. Very nice service all-around. Did a few small plates as starters (try the pickled veggies) and added a pair of pizzas to finish. Nice selection of beer and wine too. Parking can be a pain but it's E Passyunk so be prepared. We would do it again in a minute.
PS- One of our group has food allergies and they were handled quite well.
Not what it used to be unfortunately. Smaller menu and food quality nowhere near where it was a few years ago. Poor service
Amazing food! Great service and atmosphere. Highly recommend.
Great food and outstanding service. Quaint and cozy restaurant on Passyunk definitely worth the visit. Brussles sprouts are a must. Pizza and pasta dishes fantastic too.
Food was fantastic! The new menu is awesome! We could NOT stop eating!!!
Second time there. First was very good, this time pizza was just average. Crust was to thin and not done enough.
The low point was the severely undercooked buccatini in a mysteriously flavorless white wine sauce. Other than that, everything was on-par with previous visits - pizza is always solid. Get the brussel sprouts - if they aren't on the menu, DEMAND THEM.
Clean fun place to have pizza and drinks. The 2nd floor is roomy and pretty.
Food was fanatic and service was nice.
It was a very hot day and the windows were all open. Uncomfortable, we would’ve stayed for another drink if it weren’t so hot.
Amazing pizza and pasta - everyone at our table raved about their entree!
Definitely returning !!
The food is spectacular! I love places with small menus. Small menus like the pastas here means it’s all homemade and you can taste the care put into every dish they make! We even order dishes to go!❤️
In general the food was good, but the pizza was nothing special.
Casual spot on E Passyunk corridor. Very friendly, and efficient staff. Menu choices somewhat limited but our pizza and pasta dishes ordered by family we're excellent. The fried brussel sprouts appetizer was outstanding.
Would have been great if more than six people showed up for Jackson. Let's pre plan a little better next time. Everything was great! Thank you
We had an incredible dinner - especially the salad and the ravioli.
Great atmosphere and service! Loved the pizzas.
If you're looking for your Sunday Italian dinner, this is your place to go. Brigantessa elevates the Italian, being both creative and classic in their recipes, from their Briganti Hat pasta (yes, they look like hats!) with lamb ragu to the eggplant meatballs (they are AMAZING) to their Stella Pizza (with hidden ricotta in the dough).
Food was good but pasta portions were small for the price (did see other tables order pizza it looked tasty). Service was fair. We were not greeted by the hostess and had to wait 5 minutes as well as waitress did not greet us or get us drinks for an additional 10 minutes and the restaurant was not busy. Will say, the food runner was polite and friendly. Although the food was good, due to the service experience and the small portion sizes, we will most likely not return any time soon.
Brigantessa never disappoints! We stopped in Brigantessa before the Cher concert at Wells Fargo. We let them know of our tight time frame and they were very accommodating. Outstanding food selections were the brussel sprouts and the arancini with sausage. The nuts and olives are plentiful and so affordable! We order two pizzas for the three of us and we had plenty to take home for another day.
Very mediocre. We tried a number of things and none were excellent and most were pretty mediocre. The reviews sounded better than our meal actually was. The waitress was nice. The restaurant was quiet because it was almost empty.
Couldn’t believe we were the only people there for lunch on a Sunday. We had pizzas. pasta and the egg brunch dish and all the food was delicious. Also found my new favorite cocktail in La Brigantessa.
Either service was a bit slow or they like giving you more time than you need to look over the menu and decide but everything else was good
