Bridge Street Bistrot & Wine Bar
Bridge Street Bistro is our favorite restaurant in town. A sure bet for a lovely evening.
We had a lovely meal with great service.., on a quiet Tuesday we were the sole customers while there. Will return!
Incredibly delicious and a great experience.
My favorite restaurant!
Always delicious. One of our favorite restaurants for meticulously prepared and presented food with a thoughtfully diverse wine list. Reasonable price for the quality
The restaurant was charming, a good drink and wine list, and the food was excellent!
Had my first meal there this weekend. Everything was terrific. Will definitely go back and will recommend this to friends. Great job everyone. Cheers, Barney Gallassio
First time visit. Picked it based on previous dinners feedback. Was not disappointed. Small and intimate atmosphere. Nice selection of wines by the glass fairly priced. Baked Brie app was excellent. For entrees, scallops and salmon and the steak au poivre were the winners. Dessert was The profiteroles. Service was knowledgeable, friendly and prompt. Looking forward to going back 😊
Lovely small dining experience with very tasty food. We were a party of four and enjoyed our time here.
Always a great experience.
Always have an excellent meal and great food here.Come here for the quiet, comfortable atmosphere.
Excellent food and service. Were not rushed but given plenty of time to enjoy a fabulous dinner. Sat downstairs in the bar area which is tiny. It was charming. Might request upstairs next time to see what that is like.
Charming restaurant, our second visit. The escargot and Brie appetizers were well prepared, the portions are small for the value. The scallop entree was not over cooked and had a tasty sauce, the starch was a crunchy wedge of “ hash brown” and lacked flavor. The steak au Poivre was prepared perfectly, accompanied by the starch wedge. The portions are small here, and our visit was rushed although there was only one other couple upstairs with us. The bar area was humming with a fun Sat night vibe. If we return we will ask to sit there. After dessert, dinner was $124, without alcohol or tip.
The food was fantastic, especially the lavender carrots & beans! The service was great too. Worth the trip.
Very good experience all around. Food and service was very good. We’ll be back!
This was a perfect place for a date! Staff was warm and welcoming . Very cozy! Perfect!!
We had an early dinner reservations 5:30 PM on a Saturday; we're seated in the small downstairs dining room. Note: Restrooms are upstairs. The room is cozy and quiet, nicely lit, and with street-facing windows.
They made good pre-dinner cocktails (martini & cosmo), and have a nice wine list. We choose a Sangiovese and an Albarino to accompany dinner, both we're enjoyed.
For food, we shared the escargot in a garlic cream sauce as a starter, they were delicious. For entres from the regular menu: Salmon and Scallops and Duck Duo. Both were simple and flavorful. We skipped dessert.
Service was nice and helpful. We didn't want to hurry, so we asked to slow the service pace and that was acceptable. Overall, a nice dining experience.
Amazing food! The waitstaff is very knowledgeable and super friendly. They work in tandem, each helping the other and they work beautifully together. The food is amazing, we each had steak and pork, both cooked to perfection. The potato pancake is so good, perfect little starch. We had an Anniversary dinner there and I would recommend any celebration be held here. Thank you all for making the night very special.
The food is among the best in portsmouth, the price is reasonable, the ambience lovely. It is a trip to the French countryside without the plane fare!
The atmosphere was charming, the service was great...and the food was delicious.
Had the special apps which were escargot and mushrooms and a wonderful French onion soup. Both were outstanding. Entrees were duck breast two ways and a seafood trio. Again, outstanding. We were a little disappointed in the deserts. We tried the flourless chocolate torte which was dry and lacked the intense chocolate flavor we so enjoy in this dessert. The creme brûlée was good but the sugar was very thick and overly burned.
Delightful experience on a very busy Valentines weekend. Our party of 4 was whisked upstairs where were enjoyed the ambiance, appitizers of onion soup and a slate of smoked salmon, delicious. The perfectly cooked entrees of seafood stew, poached salmon and steak with peppercorn sauce were outstanding. With all of the food choices in Portsmouth this one is a must! We will be back...
What a fantastic find in Portsmouth. Food exceeded our expectations and that is rare. Foodies will not be disappointed in this French Bistro which will not break your wallet. So many great choices and a fabulous wine list. The Italian Pino Grigio was the best I ever had. Worth a trip to Portsmouth which is a really nice NH city.
We couldn't think of anything negative to say about this place. The ambiance was warm, cozy, and welcoming, and the food was stellar. We'll be going back for sure!
This is a very nice bistro. The Coquille St Jacque was just ok, the duck was very good.
Excellent food some of the best Ive ever had! The heat was a bit high in the restaurant making it uncomfortable dining experience. Get the dessert! Yum.
This is as close to a perfect dining experience as you can get. Every meal I've had has been delicious, every time. The people who work there make the experience special every time. And the place itself makes a promise of a wonderful evening that it then keeps. I can't say enough about this place!
One of the best restaurants I have been to in years definitely going back
We came here prior to our flight from the Portsmouth airport... its only 10 minutes away. The food was delicious with perfectly sized portions and not overpriced! The staff was knowledgable and chill and this is a must for us going forward.
A wonderful dinning experience. Quiet, great service and the food was delicious. Can't wait to reserve a table for us again.
Never disappointed at Bridge Street Cafe -- love the cuisine -- everything is delicious, the drinks are fantastic and the wait staff is TERRIFIC!
We each had a wonderful meal. The food was excellent and the waitstaff was very friendly and efficient. We would go back.
We love this place - have been many times and not once have we been disappointed. Great chef, great service.
We drive up fromRI at least 4 times a year and your restaurant is our first priority. This time we were able to introduce a friend to this experience and she couldn’t have been more impressed. Everything was A+ as always and it was wonderful to be recognized and welcomed back by the owner and familiar wait staff. Can’t wait to return👍🍷🍽
This was one of the most amazing meals I have ever had. We were on vacation in Portsmouth and found this gem on Open Table. I highly recommend the brie, filet, and chocolate cake! We loved the seafood stew and creme brulee as well. Compliments to the chef. We were told he makes all his desserts in house. The servers were friendly and very efficient as it was a busy Saturday night. We work in the restaurant business and we love treating ourselves. This was pretty spectacular! We will be recommending this place to all of our friends and will be sure to be back soon.
Authentic (and delicious) French meal, great price in a very comfortable setting.
Restaurant has been in a converted historic home in Portsmouth for decades. We’ve dined in dozens of restaurants in the area, usually remembering about the bistrot while driving out of town after dining. Our two couples were seated at a table for four in the wine bar seating area, enjoying our courses over a few hours.
Cocktails to start, well presented with a healthy pour. We split a cheese slate, that had many choices.
We each selected a different entree. My duck two-ways was perfectly prepared. The others enjoyed turkey cordon blue, haddock with shrimp and a meat trio. The lamb filet on the trio was very tender, was the best entree out of our group. The common side on each plate was a shredded potato soufflé. It was crunchie, soft and light all at once...wow.
We split a chocolate fondue (for one) each having just a taste with our a coffee/after dinner drink.
All the food exceeded expectations.
Only thing glaring was with the wine. Plenty of selection, by glass and bottle, some great pairings with the meal. There were a couple of grocery store-like, $9 bottles listed for almost $40. There are plenty of low priced bottles of good wine on store shelves. Just like a great meal, finding one enhances the experience. Buying a mass produced bottle, commonly picked up at my market while getting paper towels and milk, just lessens the dining experience.
On the service side, our waitress was awesome. She handled both the upstairs and wine bar very efficiently. We were never rushed or forgotten.
We will be back!
This was our first time to Bridge Street Bistro and all four of us were very impressed. The food was authentically French bistro fare from the superb baguette and Cassoulet to the succulent duck and Steak au Poivre. The martinis and our bottle of Pinot Noir from Burgundy were excellent as well. Our waitress was friendly and attentive with just the right level of banter. Their dinner coupon makes this outstanding restaurant affordable for special occasions.
Our entire experience was top notch! The service and food are fabulous....we were saeted in the Wine Bar as the main dining room was closed. The Wine Bar is quaint, the food is fresh and carefully prepared, well portioned and reasonably priced. The wine list is good sized for a smaller establishment. The desserts are all housemade and are excellent. A must for anyone with a discriminating palette.
The server was top rate and quite personable. Very knowledgeable about wine pairings. This is our “go to” restaurant every time we visit Portsmouth. We love the intimacy of the downstairs tables and wine bar. Not noisy at all when dining at 6pm, and only moderately noisy later into a busy evening. There is also an upstairs dining area.
Above all, food is consistently delicious no matter what we order. This time we had the grass fed filet Au poivre and Farris island salmon Provençal. The grass fed beef was splendid!
An excellent boutique restaurant a little off the main drag that more than holds its own in the vibrant Portsmouth NH foodie community. The food is eclectic with a continental flair. Excellent wine selections available either by the bottle or glass. Very friendly and competent service. Easy parking available. This is our favorite Portsmouth restaurant.
