Chef David Pratt never ceases to amaze us with each season's interpretation of Italian based foods. This time was a perfect bianca pizza with olives and shisheto peppers and crispy prosciutto. Another dish consisted of soft pillows of ricotta and lemon ravioli with a wonderful broth, fava beans, sweet spring peas and perfectly cooked shrimp. This dish screamed springtime!
Great food and service. I recommend this place for a Napoli style pizza in San Clemente.
First time to Brick. Server Amanda was great explaining the menu items and offering suggestions. Homemade sausage is in many dishes and is very good. Had a pasta dish and pizza. More food than we could eat so leftovers for next day. Enjoy!
Our timing was great - the place was empty when we strolled in and filled up over the next half hour. Our service was also great, Amanda was available when we needed her and food came out quickly. Our food was prepared well and I enjoyed the copper and wood decor. The food was okay. We had the roasted cauliflower (which is roasted then battered and fried), the English pizza, and the farmer's pizza. Plenty of food
Great food and service. We have been her a couple times now and the service has always been friendly and informative. The ambiance is great, and the outdoor patio is well lit. The food is excellent- I recommend the seafood ravioli. We love coming here!
Fettuccini Carbonara was very bland. Kick it up a notch, spice or something.
I know we review Brick often but the food is so good we tend to eat there more than anywhere else. Chef David Pratt is just beginning to bring out his new Spring menu. My husband has been begging Chef to bring back a steak and he has! It is grass fed and dry aged 42 days so it is the most tender and flavorful steak we have had in a very long time. I just do not know how he gets it so perfectly medium rare throughout and this was not sous vide. It is done on his wood grill. The potato almost like pancake was the perfect side he prepared with the steak along with the just picked vegetables. Cannot wait to make our way through the rest of the new items!
Brick never disappoints. Steven is a great server. We started with the fried cauliflower a beet salad then the meatballs and a margarita pizza. I finished with a scoop of rocky road gelato. A perfect dinner for both of us.
Great as usual and good to introduce new people to an amazing place.
Love Brick. We eat there too often! It's consistently good. Owner David Pratt won't serve a menu item if he can't source the best quality.
We like to go for lunch, order a share a large beet salad, (the best), and a margarita pizza. The crust is the most delicious in the area. Delicious!
Food was very good as well as the service. Décor was pleasing to the eye. Had reservations thus was seated very quickly. However acoustics are terrible. The noise level was so loud communication between my wife and I was almost impossible. Maybe a good place to go with a group of friend that enjoy shouting, however for a special occasion I would skip this place.
We came here for a casual bite to eat based on other reviews and that they had gluten free options, which is important due to a gluten sensitivity. I've eaten GF at numerous restaurants and have rarely had any bad effects from being "glutened". First off, it was so noisy and loud that we couldn't hear each other let alone our server. We ordered the sausage stuffed fig appetizer which was sooooo sweet it made it hard to choke down. I might add, the table next to us ordered the same app and the sausage came out RARE! Obviously a problem with that appetizer. I got a GF pizza and honest to Pete it was so hard and inedible that I ended up picking the toppings off and that was my dinner. I'm sure if I picked up a slice and threw it at the window it would have have broken the glass. The other "normal" pizza we ordered was burnt, had no flavor and was void of sauce and cheese. Aren't sauce and cheese the main ingredients for a pizza??? Anyway, I'm sure there are better options around. I'd go elsewhere.
We ordered the dates that are stuffed with sausage and when I bit into them I noticed the sausage was raw. I immediately showed the server and he looked appalled and said he would take it off our bill and asked if we wanted another. I get that mistakes can happen but when I later explained to the manager what happened he took my information and said the head chef would call me the next day.....weeks later and still no call. It's said that this establishment cares so little about customer service. I only wanted to explain how sick this could have made my pregnant wife and how they need to be more careful. I felt I owed it to the head chef since we have eaten here over 15 times and before this really enjoyed the food.
First time at Brick. Did not disappoint. A unique creative take on pastas and pizzas. The orecchiette really stood out. Pasta cooked just right.. al dente.. and they did not skimp on the ingredients (delicious homemade sausage, broccoli, mushrooms, pecorino) or saturate with oil and sauce. The stuffed dates appetizer was also savory. The noise level was on the high end but still worth a visit!
Brick Pizzeria was an excellent choice for a birthday celebration for four. We found it to be quiet, authentic, without a TV, interesting to get to share dishes without having to be too selective, and we enjoyed attentive service delivered by Stacy. It had been a long time since we had dined at a place that was just plain fun and relaxed without feeling rushed....and the food was fresh and tasty!
Our waitress made the evening. No rush, attentive and thoughtful ..........
Pizza was just OK, service was fine. Nice pizza oven.
Fun atmosphere, great martinis, great food, especially the cauliflower!! Can't wait to go back to this restaurant!!
The two pasta dishes we tried were fabulous. The Caesar salad, however, was uninspired. Great, fresh lettuce but very little dressing and virtually no flavor. Disappointing. We will be returning to try the pizzas!
Postive reviews lived up to expectations. Big portions (even the smaller versions) but happy to go home with another night's dinner. Only reason for not giving 5 star for service - server promptly set bill on table after taking our plates, did not ask if we wanted desserts.
Slow service approach and cocktail service. Big gap between ordering appetizers and being able to order dinner.
Market salad was weak, huge pieces of romaine with no balance between that and the ingredients. Overdressed and lettuce was so big you had to cut it just to eat it.
Pizzas crispy on the outside and soft in the middle.
The food and atmosphere was excellent. The service was subpar. The server was very nice but harried and varied in his attentiveness - it was like he was "all in" or nowhere to be seen. I had to request my 2nd beer 3 times and we had empty water glasses most of the meal. At one point I realized we never got a tall water pitcher that every other table had. We didn't have one so we were parched. I would blame this on poor planning on the restaurant staff in not making sure you had enough staff to accommodate the busy evening. Also, the server taking the order on the phone is straight up weird and obnoxious. Please go oldschool and do like the fancy restaurants and just have your servers remember or write it down - just please ditch the phone thingy. He kept telling us to wait until he was ready for the next section of his screen.
We have been here several times. Food has always been good but service is always lacking. Unfortunately we chose to take our dad here for his birthday on a very bad night. There was a table of 12 adults and screaming childern that dominated the restaurant for most of the evening. It was impossible to carry on a conversation. Once we were seated our server, Stacy, asked us to put in our entire order because the kitchen was really overwhelmed. We asked if there were any speacials...no! Once we put in our entire order we were notified that they did not have carpaccio. We ordered the mussels instead...big mistake and would not recommend.
When we made the reservations we noted that we were celebrating a birthday. There was no acknowledgment.
We were a party of eight, and arrived on time. We ordered pizzas and one order of meatballs. The service was horrible. It took two hours for our food to be served. As we were finishing our pizza, our fiends had yet to be served. The food was good, we live in San Clemente, but we were very disappointed with the service.
Had lunch on a Friday at Brick. I had butternut squash ravioli, and my wife had the Margherita pizza. We expected they would be good but they were outstanding. The freshness of the ingredients was apparent. Glad we chose Brick. Can't wait until we eat there again.
Fun place with great Pizza. Wait staff if very good, funny, yet attentive
Went with a business colleague. The place was empty as it was a weekday lunch. You'd expect the service to be attentive but it wasn't. I sensed a bit of an attitude from our server. He didn't seem happy about serving us. We felt like we were interrupting his day. Food was good as usual. I just wish they'd figure out their service. Spotty at night too.
With a new season upon us, the menu has changed again. Although several dishes are back from last Autumn, they have been changed slightly. The Acorn Squash is better than ever. The trip color salad is back as well. New are the baked Penn Cove mussels with a garlic-tomato-parsley gratin and they are just so spot on. Chef Pratt pays such attention to not only flavor but to texture which makes his food fantastic. We are so thankful that Chef David Pratt chose to locate in San Clemente and is open for lunch.
Really good food, quality, fresh ingredients, well made.
Best food that i've had in San Clemente! A little pricey but worth every penny! Definitely my new fave restaurant in SC.
Some of the interesting special dinner items are no longer on the simplified menu; pizza quality seems to have gone down a bit, and service at bit rushed.
Owner needs to hire more help. Have to ask for salt, and things. He's busy at the bar. Getting better but...more help would be great!
The meatballs are to die for. The Carne pizza is a must. Great Ceasar salad.
Very generous portions - lots of good leftovers!
Service can be disjointed but overall a good experience. Menu is limited, wish they would include 1 or 2 types of sandwiches, such as a meatball or caprese sandwich. After all these years, they still will not allow you to order meatballs as a topping for your pizza??
They have a good value wine list but with a family of four you will still spend close to $100 without alcohol.
We love that the chef David Pratt changes the menu with what ingredients are the freshest for the week. Another bonus is that he gets half pigs and butchers it down himself. If you are lucky enough to be there the day he gets the pig you can get one of the only 2 pieces he prepares saltimbocca style. On this day, we were one of the lucky ones! This dish has the salty goodness of capers and richness of the pork and prosciutto with a punch from the sage. Chef Pratt has the finesse of a classically trained french chef interpreting Italian food, a perfect combination. There is a subtlety to this technique that we appreciate.
Food was great and different than standard Italian fare. Nice atmosphere and decor. Only negative is that it is a bit hard to hear your dining partners conversation sometimes when it's busy. Enjoyed and will be back!
My husband and I and a dear friend had a very nice early dinner on the front patio. The service and atmosphere where excellent.
We love to pop in and see what the weekly specials are. Right now there are some wonderful pork centric specials like pork and corn ravioli in a corn sauce as well as a pork chop. Chef David Pratt only serves the freshest ingredients he can find and then creates some spectacular dishes from them.
