One of the people in my party said that the gumbo was the best that she'd had. There were four of us in my party and each of us enjoyed everything set before us. The service was excellent!
Brennan's is the place to go to celebrate a special occasion or to create memories. We just wanted to meet some friends for a wonderful meal. The food and the service just made it a special evening where we could focus on each other and enjoy a delicious meal. We all ate something different and each of us thought it was delicious.
Service and ambiance were great. Entrees were overdone and dry (red snapper). Appetizers were nice, especially the oysters and Tuna Tartare. Bananas Foster was fabulous.
Nice place for a quiet dinner with friends--just be sure to mention not to overcook the entree!
I would suggest that you invest in some training for your hostess at your entrance.
You have a fabulous restaurant and your wait staff are awesome. I have never had a bad experience with them. On the other hand, I have consistently observed your front desk folks to be less than customer oriented.
Excellent place for a business meeting
Great service and quiet
Anytime at Brennan's is special but this was a nice lunch for my 14-year anniversary working with my boss. He's the best and so is Brennan's!
great for lunch and dinner for any occasion is great.
Brennan's six always one of the best dining experiences in Houston. The food and service are top-drawer. We especially enjoy lunch there!
The service attempted but may have been over taken by a larger event across the hallway. Their recommendations were great but the delivery and attention to detail was lacking to expectations. The food was perfectly cooked but the generally value of the location could be challenged.
This was our 2nd time to visit Brennans in the past month and just like the previous visit, the service and food were excellent. Our servers, Fred Jr. and Ramon were outstanding and made our Valentines and birthday celebration wonderful. We love to eat there and have never been disappointed.
Our reservation was for Saturday at 12:15. We did not realize that weekends at that time were only serving brunch. The food was good, but I did not like the food selections. There were not very many selections.
Turtle soup + filet Oscar style = perfection!
Thank you and we will return soon!
We celebrated Valentine's early with lunch at Brennan's. The food was divine and the wait staff was very attentive. I highly recommend the Louisiana Blue Crab and Tomatoes. Their recommendations for wine were spot on and we will definitely return.
This is a classy restaurant with a menu whose flavors are very sophisticated...even though the main ingredient is butter. $.25 cent martini at lunch is fabulous as is crawfish enchiladas and bananas foster. The list goes on, it is really a good and fun restaurant - remember to dress up, or they'll send you away!
Not the usual experience. While the restaurant was NOT busy we waited over an hour before our soup was served to us. Luckily the food was up to the usual high standards, certainly the serve was not.
We went there to celebrate my Daughtes 21st Birthday. I googled top 20 restaurants in Houston and chose 4 to go to. Brennan's was our least favorite. The food was ok/good, the crab cake was exceptional. It could have been the the other three restaurants we chose were so much better that it made Brennan's just OK. There was a group of 7 ladies at the table next to ours that thought they were at Chilis or Red Lobster. They made it hard for us to hear ourselves thinking. So that could have added to our displeasure. I even shared my feelings with the manager that said sorry, but didn't even offer a free dessert to us for my daughters birthday. Both Trulucks and Capital Grille gave us free dessert to celebrate her birthday and we didn't have any problems there.
Brennan's has been a reliable place to meet friends eat and talk for many years. The high seat backs ensure a measure of privacy, and the food is delicious.
We had a party of three. One person had an amazing steak and another a fabulous red fish. I had lamb chops with a seasoning that I did not particularly enjoy, and there was a lot of fat and gristle on my chops., although the mushroom side dish was very good. Great service and ambience!
Food was great. Atmosphere was romantic. Enjoyed the experience. Wait staff could be improved. Overall good time.
Intimate, fancy, white linen table cloth. Dress code. Great for date night.
The restaurant was amazing. The staff were very personable and knowledgeable. The food was amazing with the exception of my steak (little over-cooked). The manager asked if I wanted it re-cooked and I declined so they did try to rectify the situation which I appreciated. Overall the experience was great and we will be returning!
My wife and I dined at Brennan's for date night. My wife had the bleu cheese & date salad and I had the smoked shrimp and gumbo for appetizers. We both had the shrimp chippewa for dinner, which is arguably the best thing on the menu. We had decent service, but not up to the standard that Brennan's usually provides. More than likely we will not go on a Saturday, nor anytime they're having an event. It looked like there was a wedding and the staff seemed to be short-handed and pre-occupied. Brennan's is still one of out favorite restaurants, but we'll stick to our usual time the next time we dine there.
Brennan's never lets you down. Always a great experience.
Brennan's is truly a gracious reminder of how fine dining should be. The food is very good and the service is excellent. Thank you, Brennan's for not whisking away my dining partner's plate when I have not finished my course. And thanks for allowing to us request the check, rather than slapping it on the table. If you want to experience how it should be done, go to Brennan's.
Food was no better than average, with my wife's dish coming to the table like warm at best. Our waiter told us about the soup du jour and the night special but to the next table of obvious regulars he describe several "off the menu" items which made us feel not a valued customer.
This restaurant never disappoints whether it be for Easter brunch, Mother's Day, a birthday party or just a dinner out. The first and second floors have different atmospheres - the first floor a little more romantic, secluded with comfy high back chairs and a beautiful back patio that could be mistaken for one in New Orleans. The second floor is great for brunch - light, airy, and a fun atmosphere. The same great menu - this restaurant does not disappoint no matter what you order! A must do on the Houston restaurant bucket list!
Once again awesome Awesome awesome..... A bit disappointed there was no shrimp or crawfish etoufee but great service and great food.....
Good: Ambiance, Service, Decor. Koo-Be-Yahn and Banana's Foster was exceptional.
Bad: It was louder than normal from bar area. The high back chairs helped shield noise, but not enough. Most of food was great, but some tasted too salty (turtle soup and pecan fish)... Reminded me of Pappadeaux's over salty food. :( However, not enough to keep me away from this place.
I took my wife there for a Sunday brunch on her birthday. I have not been to Brennan's since it was remodeled after the fire a few years back. The ambiance is still wonderful befits a good place for special occasions. We started with a demitasse of three soups: lobster bisque, turtle soup and duck and sausage gumbo. The bisque was exquisite. The turtle soup with sherry is always good and the gumbo had good flavor. For entrees, she had shrimp with goat cheese grits. That was very good. I had the pecan breaded gulf fish which was mahi mahi on that day. It was a nice size piece of fish. I began eating the fish, but had to stop 1/3 of the way through as it was too salty. There was a sauce on it about the same color and consistency of worcestershire sauce. The waiter asked how the food was and I informed him the fish was too salty. He said that he would inform the chef. He asked if I would like something else and I was pretty full at the time and saving room for dessert. I declined to take something else. For dessert, she had a wonderful pecan pie in a sundae cup which was very good. I had bananas foster and they know how to do it right there. We finished our meal there after some conversation. I was surprised that the waiter did not say what the chef said. I wanted to ask, but did not want to make my wife uncomfortable on her birthday. I must say this was so salty, that I feared for people with heart conditions to order a dish like that. There was nothing taken off the bill, but I was fine with that. We had a good time there, just wished that I had ordered something different and the waiter would have told me what the chef said.
Brunch was great - turtle soup and bananas foster unbeatable . Eggs Brennan great.
Service was incredible- they don't hover but are always available.
We went to Brennan's for dinner before a show at the Hobby Center. When seated we told the waiter that we had to be out the door by 7:15 pm. We quickly placed our drink order and then after drinks were served (took a bit of time) we ordered our food. Appetizers came out quickly as did the main course. Then a large table sat down next to us and after that our waiter tended mostly to them, causing a delay in wrapping things up and getting the check. We finally got the check but left at 7:30. We made the show in time but frustrated over the delay. I cannot complain about the food, it was outstanding.
Took a friend to lunch at Brennan's on New Year's Day to celebrate his birthday. While the restaurant is truly lovely, I was really disappointed in 1) the food, 2) the attention to detail with the service and, 3) no acknowledgement of the birthday. The fish my guest ordered was warm at best and overcooked. My crab cakes were very salty. The gumbo was delicious however. In regard to the attention to detail with the service, I was stunned that the bread plates were not removed when the crawfish and shrimp tails removed from the gumbo were placed on the bread plates (because there was no place else to put them unless you left them in the soup). And then when we left the used knives (that we used to remove the shells) in the soup bowl, they were taken out and put back out on the table. Excuse me, but that is what you do at the Olive Garden - not a fine restaurant. Lastly, despite the fact that I made a note on the reservation that it was a birthday and mentioning it at least three times during lunch, there was no recognition of the birthday. Not a big deal really, but I was trying to do something special. This was my third time visiting this restaurant in the past twelve months and the other two times were spectacular in every way. Maybe it was because it was New Years' Day - but a general, overall disappointment.
This has become one of my wife and my favorite restaurants in Houston. We will continue to eat here.
Although I requested a table in the small dining room off the lobby, with a second choice in the Terms of Endearment Room, we were seated in the big room, next to a large table of 10 - very loud conversation, sometimes approaching shrieking. One of the guests arrived late, wearing a short-sleeved shirt, tail out, no jacket (I thought there was a dress code). Our waiter constantly referred to us as "guys" - offensive in a classy place like this, especially when 3/4 of our group were ladies.
Brennan's has been my #1 favorite spot in Houston for years, but it seems to be sinking down to the lowest common level. Alas...
But the turtle soup is so delicious I will probably try again...
Love Brennan's, been going for years ! Only disappointment was the seasoning on my food - ordered my fish to be blackened & it tasted like only extra salt & pepper had been added . Otherwise , great place & excellent service!
The staff could not have been nicer. The food was wonderful, but it was the quality of service that put the evening over the top.
I requested and got a table with big armchairs. It improves the experience by a lot.
Beautiful setting, great service! Food didn't seem as good as previous visits. Brunch entrees all sat on a piece of Texas toast with the sauce underneath. The moisture (juices from the entree and the sauce at the bottom of the 'stack') were all soaked up by the toast, leaving the proteins and accompaniment kind of dry and without the benefit of the sauce that was meant to be served with it. Perhaps it was okay If you get a piece of the toast with every bite, but mandatory bread intact to give moisture to protein is not my idea of good cooking. Please consider placing the toast on the side and let the stars of the dish (protein and sides) shine!
The food and service were great. The groups next to us were very loud. The only item of a negative note was we were put at the very table we specifically requested to not be seated at in our reservation request. Odd, the restaurant was nearly empty. Otherwise, a great experience.
