Brennan's of Houston Ratings and Reviews
Service was a letdown. Waiter seemed put off when 2 of the 3 did not order starters in addition to mains at lunch (though we did order dessert). Water glasses were not filled and we were not offered rolls as other tables were. Since there was never a waiter around, one couldn't request them. No one asked about how the food was (it was very good by the way).
I expect Southern hospitality at Brennan's and it was sorely lacking this visit.
Has been several years since I have been to what I have always thought a special Brunch place. Was surprised at how full it was, which I think contributed to a high level of noise. We were seated upstairs and I don't think I would do that again. Until a large wedding party left, it was very difficult to hear somone just across the 5 person table.
Thought the meal was expensive. Brunch $60 per person for 4 adults and a 5 year old, drinks and brunch.
I like the ambiance of the ground floor so much, that the upstairs is kind of a come down. My daughter, whose birthday we were celebrating, really enjoyed it. That was the purpose of the occasion, so a plus there.
Brennan's has been a household favorite since high school 40 years ago, and I still venture back for special occasions like my wife's birthday this week. Outstanding food and outstanding service. The sommelier suggested a simply awesome Napa cab to compliment our meal, and the tableside flambe entree & dessert were done with flair and ease. We'll definitely be back soon!
Brennan's is always great. Alex Brennan Martin, owner, always runs a great operation. It is New Orleans cuisine at its best. The staff is great, and the New Orleans food is wonderful. We have decided to make Brennan's a Christmas tradition every year. Of course, we will go there many times in between.
Came here for our anniversary for the first time, and it did not disappoint! We see why this is a Houston staple.
We had reservations in the evening on a weekday night. We showed up about 10min early and were immediately seated. Good start! We were greeted by two waiters who both took care of us during our visit. They were both fantastic and very attentive. They asked us some opening questions about why we were there and explained their offerings well.
Had the Oyster BLT as a first course, and it was great! We also shared a portion of the Gumbo which was really really good. Just the right amount of spice.
We ordered the Gulf Ponchatrain and Sugar Beef Rib - both were fantastic and filling but not over filling. For dessert, the bread pudding was a nice way to end the meal.
Overall we enjoyed our first visit to Brennan’s and look forward to visiting again for brunch & lunch and special occasions again!
This is my third visit this year. I always come for Sunday brunch and the atmosphere is very "old money". The food is always on point. My only criticism would be the waiter. He was very professional but also curt and short with my guests. Clearly he was professional, but obviously a bit annoyed with questions and anything that knocked him off his schedule. However, I would still recommend everyone try it.
Used to be the best restaurant in Houston. Service used to be impeccable. No longer that way. Service was extremely slow and not up to standard of the restaurant. Had to ask waiters to refill water glasses, had to ask waiters to take dirty dishes from table. Waiters not attentive to the customers.Went there for a romantic night celebrating anniversary with my wife, they sat us upstairs next to two wedding parties. Very noisy. Food was OK, just not up to the standard of the old Brennans restaurant. So sad.
Food was fantastic, Service was very good. The only complaint I have was the Brunch online price was lower then the menu price and the charged price was even higher then the menu price.
They listed a burnch menu example which included the crab benedict as a mian course, so when I ordered it they failed to tell me it was an additional $16 on top the brunch price.
It seems they make up the prices as they go along.
But the Crab benedict was devine and the bread pudding was the best I've ever had.
The food as always was exceptional. I have always tremendously enjoyed the food and exceptional service. Unfortunately, the service in this instance was well below expectations and a disappointment for me and especially for my daughter. I took her to celebrate her new job. She had never been to Brennan’s and I looked forward to giving her the full experience. Sadly, service was poor and she did not get to experience what I have always enjoyed. It is the icing on the cake. Or should I say bananas foster. Anyway, I’ll come back to Brennan’s but I sincerely hope the total experience is what I’ve come to expect from your restaurant.
Friday lunch service was very busy and service was terrible. Waiter had too many tables. We were forgotten about many times. Even the Bananas Foster was not warm because he didn't take the time to fix it properly and burn all the alcohol down. I've never had a bad experience there before (its one of our all time Houston favorites) but I don't know that I would ever go back for lunch service again.
The 2 servers assigned to our party of 4 were completely overwhelmed by a larger table they were taking care of next to us. As a result we had long waits for service. We finally cancelled our desert, which took forever to even be able to cancel, so we could finally pay and leave. The disappointment here is that we were celebrating our daughter's 16th Birthday.....
