I booked Breakwater Restaurant for Mother's Day to attend with my 3 sisters. We were booked for the 2pm seating. Upon arrival, we were shocked to see we weren't in the main dining area rather, they opened up an adjacent hall and that's where we sat. It was a large hall with hundreds of people in it. It felt like a wedding and there were super long line-ups for food. It felt like we were at a wedding for God's sakes! Our restaurant booking at the Breakwater Restaurant because an open, loud space - lost it's cache completely!
Then, the bill came and there was a service charge on there. I asked what it was and the waiter said "it's the tip". THEY ADD TIP FOR A TABLE OF 4? (typically added on larger groups). AND, the worst part is that they tipped themselves 18%!! I wouldn't have tipped more than 10% for the reason that we served ourselves and didn't get any service from a waiter as we drank water that was already on the table. No, we aren't cheap and would have liked to enjoy some wine but, as mentioned, the ambiance was TERRIBLE and we were disappointed. To add their own tip was probably even more disappointing then the meal itself! Brutal. We all agreed that we would NOT ever go back. THUMBS DOWN
85th birthday brunch. Great selection of good food.
Good food, not as much selection as we have had in other restaurants. Not keen on the servery being in the hotel reception
I haven't been to Breakwater for a long time and the thing I like about it is that it is a quiet atmosphere. I think because of the construction outside it is suffering from lack of patronage. We were there on a Saturday night and the place was practically empty. Only 3 tables, including our own, were occupied. I believe this is unusual as it has never been that way before when I have gone there. It is a posh atmosphere, very quiet, even when it's busy, and a very nice place to have dinner with friends.
Menu was different from the last brunch. Was expecting salmon and chicken on the menu
We choose the Breakwater to celebrate my Daughter's Birthday. It was our first time eating here and we thoroughly enjoyed our brunch. Everything was perfect from the time of our arrival to our departure. The staff were professional and attentive and the ambience was wonderful. We particulary enjoyed that we could converse without any loud noise interferring our conversation. The buffet was set up in a separate room and was presented attractively. The food was delicious with multiple items to choose from. We have all decided that the Breakwater will be our first choice for future celebrations.
This is my "go to" place for special occasions. The elegant ambiance, superb service, and a menu of traditional and edgy offerings make this a destination restaurant when you want to feel special - pampered and treated. The wine list is impressive, from reasonably priced fine wines to surprising extra-special once-in-a-lifetime vintages. Mohamed is our favourite waiter, with experience in fine restaurants in the UAE, who knows how to shimmer in and out as if you are being served by unseen hands: he also pours a fantastic Manhattan. This is a hidden gem.
wonderful fine dining restaurant. not too bad on pricing. tried the baked salmon and it was very delicious. however for the the main course we ordered lobster and chicken. the chicken was okay but the noodles in it very too plain. and lobster was not good at all.
We received excellent service from Mohammed and all of the Breakwater staff. Our meal (Chateaubriand) was wonderful as well. My wife and I had our wedding reception at the Waterside Inn 3.5 years ago and Mohammed still remembered us, which was very nice. Highly recommended.
It was our first time at the Breakwater Restaurant. Loved the place, amazing service. Will definitely return!
They were under construction, so it was a bit loud, however, don't let that fool you because my experiences there have always been great and I cannot wait to see what it will look like after the renovations.
The service is still impeccable and the food is wonderful. Nestled in the little village of Port Credit, when you choose the Breakwater Restaurant, you're choosing an experience.
My friend and I enjoy Breakwater when we want a relaxed, un-rushed meal where we can chat, share an excellent cocktail, a special wine, and an exquisite meal served by an attentive and knowledgeable server. The value for money is outstanding. This is our "go to" place when we want to feel special and spoiled.
The wait staff did their best to accommodate a vegan diet, and were warm and personable. The dishes were prepared with fresh, high quality ingredients and great care and attention were given to flavours and presentation. My only quibble would be the portion sizes. Fine dining, yes, but I think the portions could be a bit more generous (salads and dessert).
Mohammed gave us superb service. Always a great experience for a special evening.
My friend and I were at Breakwater for lunch, we have been there before. The food is so darn good! The dining room is upscale..yet comfortable and cozy, and attached to the hotel. The price is medium and well worth anything on the menu. The servers are very attentive..but don't hover over you. They are in a restoration of the lakefacing patio, can't wait until it's open.
We were greeted adequately, not the greatest view, had to request alcoholic beverages. The food prepared was very tasty. Not as good a selection as I thought it would be for the cost. It was my birthday and I really wanted to go there as I had heard it was very special It was ok not great. There was Absolutely no real interest in us by servers
Went on a Wednesday night and had the restaurant to ourselves. The service was impeccable and the food delicious. Was able to sit and chat after finishing our meal and did not feel rushed. Highly recommended.
Very nice dinner in a quiet restaurant. They accommodated my gluten free requirements. Very attentive staff
The restaurant was very nice although very quiet, although presumably in large part due to the construction going on.
I was looking forward to having the fish and chips but wasn't all that impressed. The chips were a bit thin and soggy and the batter on the fish flat and nothing special. However my husband enjoyed his steak and friend enjoyed his lobster dinner.
Real water resturant is amazing. Our server was welcoming and friendly for our whole visit. The food was spectacular and we will for sure be back there again!
A gem. Service and food awesome
The service and welcome were fine. We were moved a couple of times to a better table and found it a little over the top with helping with napkin and one server outdoing the other. The three of us had one mixed up order so we had to wait longer.
The service was great...restaurant was amazing...food was awesome. Only problem was my mahi mahi was dry. Otherwise, great place.
Food was great, but the ambience is not so great. Maybe it was a slow night Thursday.
Currently undergoing massive renovations. Will likely be super once completed.
My sister, visiting from Calgary, was very happy with my choice of restaurant to celebrate her birthday. Everything was lovely and both of us enjoyed our meal.
A very enjoyable experience - our first but not our last - and especially the food and beverage manager was a wealth of information with outstanding service. Lovely atmosphere - serene and quiet. Even the lounge singer who appeared at 7pm was delightful, and just the right volume (I believe he was there due to Port Credit's Southside Shuffle weekend).
Chateaubriand was amazing and worth the price. We made a pact to come back at least once a year for the same meal.
Food was excellent but with construction going on in the front of the building talking was limited because of noise.
We come often for the Sunday Brunch but decided to try the Breakwater for a romantic dinner. Excellent service and food. Nice low key environment. I would recommend for a special occasion.
Food was great, our server, Chris, was exceptional. :) she made the lunch special.
Been to Breakwater many times, but not for a few years.
Happy to report it is a good as every. Great value for money
Service is very good
Menu varied and portions a good size and taste is fantastic.
Wine menu is small but well balanced and again good value for everyone
Generally this is a quiet place where you don’t have to raise your. Price to be heard by your dinner companion.
If you decide to go, you will be happy you did
An under-appreciated gem in Port Credit. 4 Star restaurant with excellent service. For when you want something better than pub food. Nice, quiet and calm atmosphere.
Used to be excellent, now the wine is overpriced, the service glacial and the food cold
Food was decent but not very hot and I think this place could just use a bit of a refresh all around to make it stand out.
Overall the food and service was satisfactory. However, I was trying to use my opentable diner cheque for $26 and it was refused by the manager. Please review your agreement as all opentable restaurant should be accepting the cheque. I wouldn't have chosen to dine here if not of opentable.
I love the location. The food is good,however..they could have added more selections like finger foods, like wings, small rolls, quiche and other appetizers. The waitresses appear busy and no smiles. One waiter though is a very nice gentleman. He appears to be dedicated to his job and attentive to the customers and I think his name is Mahomed. The fruit juice is minimal.Their juice container is quite empty ,but nobody refilled it.
Very nice food and wine list although staff needs a little education in wines
I had made a reservation for breakfast based on the breakfast/brunch menu posted on the restaurant website. When I arrived I was told that the only option for breakfast was an expensive buffet. When I mentioned the menu on the website, I was told (rather rudely) that this was not offered on Sunday. It seems if you scroll down the web page there is more information about the brunch buffet but this is not obvious. Had I been treated in a more civil manager by the waiter who met me upon arrival I would have let this pass.
Excellent evening with friends celebrating a special birthday. Good service, good food, nice atmosphere, good value.
The service is excellent. The place is great for meeting. The food on the other hand, is way below avarage. I got salmon Benedict and a french toast. The hallonidase sauce was "thick". The French toast was blend. I was disappointed with the food.
