The restaurant has a very nice atmosphere and a nice menu with full entree and small plate selections. Our server was extremely pleasant and made several recommendations, however not very attentive at all. My salad was bone dry and I asked for more dressing, the request was totally ignored. I expect in a restaurant of this caliper that the wine would be poured by the server not by my guests. It was almost like she spent the evening in another room, a we were an afterthought. The food was very good, but very small portions. Not a top pick for Beaufort, I’m sorry.
Defiantly an off night for Breakwater. Four entrees were totally devoid of ‘presentation ‘ Scallop entree - all ingredients were swimming in butter- scallops, green beans and ‘risotto ‘ (if a scoop of rice with chunks of butternut squash can be called risotto). An insult to anyone who appreciates good food.
Other 3 entree’s simply scooped into a bowl devoid of any presentation.
Always enjoy our meals at Breakwater! We went during Restaurant Week but it is one of our favorite restaurants in Beaufort anytime. Service is always good, attentive but not overwhelming. Food is well prepared and serving portions a good size. We'll be back.
Pretty great! Kind of a pain to have two tickets-one for bar and one for food. Our food was super delicious. Except the beignets, which were horrible- under cooked, not sugared, way too little chocolate sauce.

First time visit due to Restaurant Week menu that was appealing. Food was excellent. Nashville Chicken, tomato bisque, beignets.
Service was less than stellar. During meal she was attentive but not friendly. Waitress failed to note there were 2 Hahn cabs listed close together. Customer indicated choice by pointing to one that was $13/glass, wait staff served the $22/glass. Twice.
Customer ordered pork tenderloin and was served steak tenders--maybe an honest mistake but it was $5 more.
When checks arrived, the mistakes were noted and corrected. New checks arrived but charged on the wrong cards. Manager finally intervened and graciously corrected the errors and issued credits. Awkward ending to an otherwise lovely and delicious evening.
We always enjoy Breakwater! Another excellent visit over the holiday weekend. Service was on point (Leslie and Jenn always do a great job!), food was excellent, and atmosphere great. Whenever we have family in town over holidays we book a dinner at Breakwater.
Breakwater is always very good. Small plates are nice. Good taste without entree prices. Filet is very good. Prepared just right. Same with the red fish special. Meaty and moist.
Just a hint. Request a table in the front of the dining room or bar. It tend sc to get a little noisy and crowed because of the golf crowd.
We chose Breakwater for a family dinner on a Friday evening. The restaurant was busy, but the ambience and noise levels allowed us to enjoy conversation and relaxed pace for dining. Everyone enjoyed their meals and appetizers. I especially liked the option of entrees to be ordered as small or large plates.
This was my first visit to Breakwater. It won’t be my last. While the evening was a little hectic for the service (we later found out a kitchen staffer didn’t show up and it threw off the night), the manager, who ended up waiting on us, went above and beyond for our dinner party. She comped our cocktails and dessert! A great gesture. The food was excellent and I especially liked that you can get small plates of entrees. The charred romaine was a favorite of the group. We love Beaufort and will add Breakwater to our must-do list.
The food was amazing and our server was terrific! However, the booths were very uncomfortable and hard to get in and out of and the acoustics we're not good either. I thought it was just me because I am hard of hearing and wear hearing aids but the other seven people in our party said they had the same problem with hearing each other in our conversation throughout our dinner.
Would have given ambiance a 5 if had been seated by window. Requested a window seat at 5pm for a party of 2. Upon arrival, we were told they were really booked for the evening and couldn't seat us near the window. There were two tables for two by the window. A couple did come in around 5:30 for one table. The other table remained open even after we left around 6:15.
