Breakwater Restaurant & Bar - Beaufort
Chef Lang and Chef Shaw's version of 'New Southern Cuisine' contains the past, present, and future all at once. Younger, lighter, and fresher than traditional Southern 'Old School' deep-fried fare while acknowledging culinary influences from the world beyond. Exceptional tapas menu, outstanding fresh local seafood and produce.
The bar at Breakwater exudes a lively energy with locals and travelers alike. Exceptional wine list with 75 wines by the glass.
Wonderful food and drinks! Nice atmosphere and always consistently yummy. So glad they are serving lunch now and the brunch was fun and delicious!
Breakwater is our go-to restaurant here in Beaufort, so when we heard about their inaugural Saturday Champagne Brunch, we HAD to be there! It was all we had hoped for - yummy, unique cocktails and delicious food. John loved his BEET cocktail (yep - beets!) and I loved my Veuve and Grand Marnier concoction. Our table shared the deviled eggs, which were delightful with smoked salmon and pickled red onion. We both had the Chef's Choice Eggs Benedict - lovely crispy crabby cakes topped with a poached egg, spinach, and hollandaise - no unnecessary, english muffin to worry with. They were PERFECT, and the eggs were done exactly to my requested doneness .... and John's were just the way he requested! The accompanying hash browns were a very naughty treat - basically miniature crispy french fries. Addictive. If you want a quieter experience, request the dining room side. We had a wonderfully festive time at a high top in the bar. If we are in town, we will definitely attend their April offering.
This was a pleasant surprise - not because I’d heard “bad things” - I’m so new to the area I quite honestly hadn’t heard anything about Breakwater. And that kinda concerned me. I’ve gotten recommendations to 6 or seven other places and never once was this place mentioned. That and the lack of curb appeal - the grey exterior didn’t exactly exude a “try me” look to it...
Nonetheless - we were greeted pleasantly by the hostess for our reservation, and seated immediately. Our served Michelle was both informative, very welcoming, and attentive.
The food was a knock out. From the descriptions on the menu, to the presentation - on thru the taste. Outstanding!
I’ll be coming back, often!
Gayle and I celebrated our 48th wedding anniversary, just us, together, alone. I splurged with the filet mignon, definitely worth it! AND the service, Oh the service, was just as good as good service gets, a Red Sox fan to boot!
Breakwater is and has been our favorite for both lunch, but especially for special occasions!
Lovely cocktails and superb food selection—a don't miss in Beaufort!
A birthday dinner for our niece. Service was great after we were acknowledged. A small mixup led to a 20 min wait before the server came to the table.
A very nice dinner. Our favorite Beaufort restaurant.
Great service, great value, and the food is very good too.
I had a reservation for 8 at 5:00pm. Since that was the first reservation, I expected the food to be well prepared. One of my guests ordered the blackened mahi-mahi. It was so dry, it was like cardboard. Another guest ordered the scallops with risotto. The scallops were underdone and only one side was seared. The risotto had some horrible sauce on it. 3 guests had the pork chop which as delicious, but had some awful sauce on them. I had the swordfish special. The piece of fish was small for the price. The fish was good by itself, but had another awful sauce that was way to salty. I also had a gin martini which was tiny and very diluted. I’ve been to Breakwater for lunch twice and was pleased with what I had,but needless to say i will never go back for dinner. relatively expensive for mediocre food at best.
Eight of us had a birthday lunch yesterday and everything was delicious: shrimp salad, shrimp and grits, quiche, salmon—all excellent. They accommodated our request for a round table and even surprised our two birthday honorees with complimentary creme brûlée. Can’t wait to bring out of town guests here.
Worth a visit when in town. Great service and meal
Meeting new friends.
My favorite lunch place!
Great food and verity! Exstensive bar menue, best shrimp and grits ; )
Delicious dinner for my wife and I. We decided to sit at a high-top in the bar area and our server was very friendly and helpful. The Nashville Hot fried chicken and Braised short ribs were fabulous.
Breakwater remains, in my opinion, the only "best" restaurant in Beaufort
A local favorite....Interesting interior, attentive service and a pleasant boisterous ambiance.... well thought out menu with many ‘small/large’ options for consideration.
We had a great time at this restaurant. The waitress was wonderful. The food was delicious, great environment. Highly recommend.
Overall a great experience. We will be back.
Great food (fresh catch and braised short rib) and beer. Drink was a bit strong, server checked on us frequently but didn't know much about the beers or drinks (didn't ask about wine) and didn't offer to find out or brink a taste of on tap craft beer. But she did a good job with everything else. 100% would go again.
The food was a very interesting combination of flavors which I hadn't experienced before. Well prepared, served hot, and timely. The service was also very attentive. Smaller portions are a great idea for all restaurants, given how "oversized" dinners have become across the US. We will definately be returning.
Our evening was perfect. We hAd two preteens with us and they also loved the food and ambiance.
Food was outstanding. One of our favorite places to have dinner.
Every item and every course got rave reviews from soups to salads to appetizers too entrées to dessert from all guests. Plating was beautiful.
A couple New Englanders were disappointed with only four scallops on the large scallop dinner. I agree. Bump the price a few bucks and do five or six (or cut them like Gordon Ramsey does). Four looks disappointing on an entree plate.
Still raving fans though.
Great staff wonderful food. Fairly well managed noise level. We were promptly seated. Selections were just right.
Breakwater remains my favorite. Once again wonderful service and food. Great birthday dinner for me.
Wine a bit pricey but gin and tonic a good choice. Overall experience quite nice.
We went for a belated Valentines and they were very accommodating. They had a special menu for the weekend occasion. The food was fabulous as always! This is one of our two favorite “go to” restaurants in Beaufort! We highly recommended it!!
Food was delicious! Service was perfect! Great night out in downtown Beaufort!!
Dinner was excellent, service was exemplary, the whole evening was great
Yes. The food was first rate, the service excellent.
Food and Service was Excellent. It is a place for people who appreciate good food.
Food was delicious and beautifully presented. The staff was warm and appropriately attentive.
Just OK. The food was a big disappointment. Server was very good.
Our server, Lisa, was authentically kind and helpful with all aspects of our family get-together . The meal and wines/cocktails were impeccably prepared and plated. Thanks so much for helping us make a memory.
My main wrap was very dry. Disappointed. Friend had quiche which looked good. I'll try that next time.
Good food and good service.
Another great dinner at breakwater. Wonderful service as always and love that carpaccio was back on the menu! Yum!
Great food and staff. Loved our experience
Although it wasn’t very busy, the service was slower than usual. I finally found a water pitcher to refill our glasses. Nice waitress, but not efficient.
This was amazing food! Best braised short rib I have ever had
