Designed to serve as a neighborhood bistro, wine bar and gourmet market, Bread & Wine in Chicago, IL is a unique blend of New American foods alongside classic brasserie choices. Sit at the open kitchen and watch your meal being prepared or tuck up to the bar and enjoy a drink and a nibble.
Menu choices at Bread & Wine include the brunch options as well as an impressive dinner selection. This features small plates such as an escargot tart or a crispy Chinese eggplant dish. Large plates include steak frites as well as pan roasted halibut. You can also go for the charcuterie and cheese plates to enjoy with a drink, or opt for a delicious coffee and one of the delicious desserts. A favorite at Bread & Wine is the salted caramel popcorn panna cotta.
Everything we ordered was delicious, and the chicken liver pate on the charcuterie menu was fantastic. Great wine list, friendly and helpful staff. On my list of favorites on the north side now.
Our experience was ok. In the beginning, it felt weird because it was kind of empty and no one paid attention to us. Then, the waiter came 15 minutes later and he was really nice. The food wound up being great. It was a bit pricey for what it was and how non busy it was. But overall the food was great quality and the portions were good. We will go back
Great wine and food and service.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Perhaps I expected too much, but the quality of the food did not measure up to my expectations. It was good, but not outstanding. Definitely not worth the high prices. The service was excellent. I found the chairs to be very uncomfortable. The music is too loud.
Outstanding food with great service! We had the GF chicken fried chicken, the grass fed burger and streak frites. Everything was delicious. For dessert I recommend the Salted Caramel Popcorn Panna Cotta. Oh. Em. Gee. I wanted to bathe in it. Outstanding!
We went on a Wednesday night and sat outside. Wasn't too crowded. They were out of the first two wines we ordered, but the cocktails we ended up with were good. Food was delicious, but options were very limited for non-meat eaters.
Our first visit since the executive chef and kitchen staff changes and we loved it as much as always! Thanks for always delivering spectacular food with an easy neighborhood vibe.
Good food and service.
Great food with unbelievable coffee.
This was another fantastic visit! I look forward to each visit to see if they've made changes to the menu. I already booked my next visit!
The food was excellent. The service was very professional. Our server was knowledgable about the menu and wine list and made excellent recommendations. We will definitely go back to experience the next season's menu.
I was there for brunch this time and it was fabulous. I had the seasonal omelette. My husband had the chicken and pancakes. We both cleaned our plates. We will definitely be going back soon.
I've been here several times and they never disappoint. Be sure to request the Chef Table/Counter Top so you can watch the chefs while they prepare your food. You can have a free show while you eat! The chefs are extremely nice and as long as they're not too busy, they're happy to answer questions. The menu is always changing so be sure to come back during different seasons. They make almost everything in house but it's not too high brow. Great spot for people who prefer quality food and are willing to spend a little more to help a local establishment.
Had reservations for Sunday brunch on 5/15. We were seated promptly however I wish I could say the same about the service which was slow, non attentive and lackadaisical . The menu is limited and food is fair. There are too many other great brunch places in the city to waste your time at Bread and Wine.
This place is off the beaten path but one of the best restaurants in Chicago. It is the stuff of dreams. Free parking a bonus. Truly remarkable
Most of the food was acceptable but the bacon and one of the eggs were undercooked.
Service was spotty.
My friend and I have started coming here on a regular basis. The food is amazing! Just when I think I have tried everything on the menu, the chef is coming up with something new. I usually don't venture out of my comfort zone when it comes to food, but I will when I eat here. I can't wait for my next visit which is scheduled before I leave.
I've been to Bread & Wine twice now, both times it has been excellent. great food, great service, nice atmosphere. It's a real treasure for the neighborhood.
Food and drink were all delicious (chicken liver pate, sea trout, fried chicken, beet salad, panna cotta, ....)
They were creative in making me a drink with my alcohol of choice (tequila). Asked about any allergies. Very attentive staff.
We loved everything! I can't wait for our next visit!
My husband and I had a date night here after living in the neighborhood for six months. We had no idea what we had been missing out on! Delicious food, cozy surroundings, and a wonderful sleeve toon of drinks. We will definitely be back.
Their charcuterie plate is a must! So glad I found this place. I will definitely be back.
My husband and our friends had a wonderful and delicious meal at Bread and Wine. We are all looking forward to returning for another meal soon!
They were so accommodating of my friend's dietary concerns. She has celiac disease: cannot eat gluten or dairy and they let us know which items she could choose from, which were great options!
Fantastic food! Great service.
The food was amazing! I like sitting at the counter. The kitchen staff is great! When they have time they tell you about the menu, etc. I can't wait to go back.
The special sausage dish was amazing, lots of little surprises on the plate!
Very expensive for mediocre food. The drinks were good but not worth the $. Service was good.
Experience is always a delight-from the wait staff to the food-always enjoy coming here!
Best of the best - really adds to the neighborhood. We are so glad they are here. Food was amazing - basic dishes turned unique. Staff was friendly. Could have been a little quicker considering we had a two-year old.
Everything was fantastic! I am a big fan of sitting at the chef's counter. When there is some down time, they will chat with you and answer any of your questions. I'm going back on Saturday night so I can have one of the dishes before they change the menu.
The food is great for dinner and brunch. They also make awesome cocktails! They have awesome deals to take advantage of during the week too (from their front page http://breadandwinechicago.com/):
TUESDAYS: TASTING MENU STARTING APRIL 7
WEDNESDAYS: HALF OFF SELECT BOTTLES OF WINE
THURSDAYS: BURGER & A BEER FLIGHT: $22
Unusual selection of entrees and wines. Beaautiful presentation. Knowledgeable waiter
Fabulous. Inventive friendly
Very disappointed that iced tea is not refilled for free! Not good customer service.
I am horrible at actually writing reviews but of course I use them profusely in deciding where to dine. Bread and Wine has forced me to add a review.
We went for a late brunch on Valentine's Day with two kids. It was bit more than half full which probably helped keep the noise level down.
The food was outstanding, as was the service! I had the classic fry up which had country ham, homemade breakfast sausage, house cured bacon, fried eggs, hash browns. Everything was cooked perfectly and the sausage had a great zing to it. My wife had the crispy semolina gnocchi with poached egg, braised cabbage, rosemary hollandaise. It was delicious. Kids went with the cinnamon roll and pancakes with a side of bacon and hash browns. The hash browns are insanely good! They are shoe-stringed with carmelized onions and perfectly crisp and not too salty. They were so good the kids ordered a second side, giving them a third chance to disappoint as mine came with hash brown side, and they were just as good as the other two. We can't wait to go back.
The food was outstanding! With every bite and every chew you are jolted with the new taste. Different meats, cheese, and vegetables. The tastes are distinguished and bold and we enjoyed every bite.
I wasn't sure what to expect but Bread & Wine certainly provided a great experience in terms of both the food and the wine. The menu was well thought out with enough choices to satisfy many palates. Prices were reasonable and the food was creatively prepared. The wine list was approachable with some decent values. Service was attentive without being obtrusive. Noise level was high but they have a parking lot. My only real complaint was the chairs. They look cool but not so comfortable after a while. Try Bread & Wine.
I went with a eight of my nearest and dearest to try it out. We tried EVERYTHING on the menu and all of it was dynamite! Nice selection, great flavors and the service was stellar. To drink I had the #80, and I will forever be trying to replicate that deliciousness. The panna cotta dessert is delightful and dreamy goodness. So glad I tried trout for the first time there, I will probably compare all future plates to that one with parsnip blinis - yum!!!
Very foodie orientated. Great ambiance and service.
