Bread and Ink Café
The food is delicious and the staff are very friendly. I love eating at bread and ink!
Bread and Ink has never failed to satisfy. The food is lovely, the service is solid, it’s not too crowded or noisy. The Portuguese flan is fabulous.
Great meal as always. Busy place for brunch but love all the food and drink options. Great service and friendly staff. Food was hot and fresh. Clean restaurant
Made a reservation for 6pm. Had a hard time deciphering where the entrance was cause they share space with a waffle joint. Was greeted by an unfriendly person who tried to show us to a small table for two near a drafty door. There was literally one other table in the place so I asked for a nice 4-top in the window so we could people watch (were from out of area). She copped major attitude and was noisily removing the 2 extra place settings. We were slow to be greeted by our server who was very nice but also pretty slow. Food was delicious although my husband said his fried chicken was under seasoned. We wanted to love it because it was recommended by our local foodie group but we won’t be back, mainly due to the hostess and her incredibly inhospitable behavior.
Four of us went to Bread and Ink for a birthday lunch. The food was well prepared, and everyone enjoyed it. Our server has worked at the restaurant for over 30 years. He was very personable and efficient. And he brought a special birthday dessert for our table to share—gratis!
Super great place for breakfast. Loved their coffee and service.
First time there after reading rave reviews. We were very impressed and will definitely be back.
Great food and service! The chicken and waffles were delicious!
Went for brunch with a friend. They worked with her to make some vegan options and she had a great meal. It was busy but the service was good. My meal was fine.
Great food, enjoyed it!!
30+ years of memories; still best for food and service.
We really appreciated as a group pf 4 becoming able to sit at the corner table at the front window at the back of the restaurant as it offered us enough privacy and quiet to have a conversation. Thank you.
We've been coming to Bread & Ink for many years. It's a family tradition to have their latkes in December. Unfortunately, though they serve breakfast all day on the weekends, because we dined in the afternoon, we could not order the latkes they had served just that morning. This was a disappointment, and therefore I could not give a 5-star rating. A website update or two might help inform future diners.
Family was visiting from out of state and this was the perfect place to show what great food, service, and friendliness Portland has to offer!!!!
Live here in Portland and haven't been back to Bread & Ink for almost 15 years. Took some friends out to dinner and decided to go to Bread & Ink and was delighted...service was great, food was really good and enjoyed our experience (and will return)
Great meal and great service. Food is always awesome with fun specials. Loved all the baked goods options.
My dinner was both undercooked and lukewarm. When I sent it back, it returned hotter but still underdone. The roasted autumn vegetables included carrots and Brussels sprouts that were also undercooked. One of our party had salmon that, conversely, was over-cooked.
The waiter was pleasant and friendly and also not well-informed about the menu. He seemed unsure what to do when we commented about the food. At no point did he apologize for the meal being poorly cooked. I wasn’t expecting him to take personal responsibility for our experience but an apology on behalf of Bread and Ink would have been nice.
We have been coming to this restaurant since it opened some thirty years ago. It’s a running joke in our family about the inconsistency of the service. But up until now, the food was quite well-prepared. Our experience this time was a disappointment.
The wait staff must have been practicing for Halloween, no energy, no smiles or personality. Maybe the young man was having a bad day. We both ordered the burger and it was dry and the bun was hard. Would not go back
Great service and food came out super fast. Yummy meal with so many options. Tons of bakery items made on site.
We were lucky enough to eat breakfast here twice during our visit to Portland. It was outstanding.
Great for breakfast! Delicious Belgian waffles, pancakes and omelets.
Always a great dinner spot! Creative menu with local seasonal ingredients. The specialty cocktails are amazing! We tried 3 different drinks and all were superb!
Awesome! Only problem was trying to decide what to order (although I might recommend skipping the cinnamon rolls!)
Nice place. Good service. However, the menu is different from what is posted online. The offerings were simpler, and, although my companions were very pleased with their meals, my salmon was dry and bland, while the mix of potatoes and corn it came with was not very good. I’m giving them a pretty high rating as I was the only one with a so so experience, and the atmosphere and service were very pleasant and relaxing.
Food was fantastic! Only issue we had was somewhat slow service, but we would go back anyways!
Bread and Ink is always good. The food is prepared well and shows creativity.
Hidden gem. Can take my kids to a "grown up" restaurant and let them try out not having a play area. Chicken and waffles- genius!
I went to the Cafe with my son, daughter, and son-in-law for a breakfast meetup on a Sunday morning. We like to order four things and then split them all between us. We ordered the waffles with berries, the prosciutto omelette, the biscuits and gravy, and the eggs benedict. All were very, very good.
We also had lattes and mochas, which were excellent.
The service was top-notch. We will definitely return.
Had a great dinner here with friends spanning three generations. Everyone was happy with the food, and the service was excellent.
Snooty and superior 20 something Bjorn Borg look alike pretending to be helpful instead delivers passive aggressive “screw you” service. Renders meal unpleasant. My advice to Bjorn—get over yourself and put the customer ahead of your own “coolness.” My advice to customers: go to Jam on Hawthorne instead.
I had reservations for my birthday dinner. They had no AC on a 94 degree day. They were short staffed, which happens, but the wait staff person was rather surly in barking out (as we stood in the entry way) "it will be at least 4-5 minutes," without even inviting us to take a seat to wait until he could help us. He didn't need to be so abrupt. I might have stayed anyway but for the lack of AC. We left and went to 3 Doors Down. I like B&I but this was a disappointing experience. Since we left I couldn't accurately comment on the food, value, etc. but this software requires an entry so I based it on previous visits.
Eating breakfast at Bread and Ink Cafe. Great waffles and French toast but the worlds most over cooked bacon. Must be a vegan in the kitchen.
Great food in a nice neighborhood. I had the Eggs Benedict. My friends had the mushroom and Swiss omlett. We both enjoyed our food. Our server was attentive but not over bearing. We felt served but not watched and not ignored. I would go back.
There were 6 of us for Fathers Day brunch, including two young children. It was very busy but lots of staff, the food was great, the children got just what they wanted and they colored while they waited. We go here often for breakfast, one of our favorite places.
Waffles were cold and the fried chicken’s crust was oily. Worse, a cook and a server got into a loud verbal argument which frightened my child.
Very nice place to bring a family. The food was very good. Our server was pleasant and honest about her thoughts on each dish. I appreciated the simplicity and fresh ingredients in each dish. I had the Bouillabaisse which was delicious. I tried the Coq A Vin and Salmon as well which were both excellent.
We have been there several times and the food is consistently good. Service has always been attentive and friendly.
It’s our go to restaurant for good food and a quiet evening
My friends and I were able to have a good conversation in spite of the moderate noise. The food is excellent, including the bread baked on the premises.
I like Bread and Ink and it was nice to sit and talk at lunchtime, but the food was quite spicy and I thought it would have been nice to have bread offered. It was good but I have had great meals there at a different time.
