Brazo - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
Food was very good, a bit pricey. Our main problem was our dinner seemed to be overlooked and we waited a long time to get our food. The problem was we had tickets for theater and ended up having to forego coffee. It was my husband's 60th birthday and they gave us a free birthday dessert but we couldn't take more than a bit or two because we had to get to the theater. I would go again when we didn't have to be out within 1.5 hours.
My husband and I were celebrating our 10th wedding anniversary. I ordered from the menu and the food was delicious. On the other hand, my husband ordered two specials and they were delicious as well. The wait staff was attentive to our needs and was forthcoming with recommendations. We enjoyed our visit to this restaurant and would definitely visit again.
I find Brazo to be reliably awesome and I'm picky. The service has always been excellent, no exceptions, and they are very willing to accommodate food sensitivities. I love the romantic ambience with great music and dim lighting, Latin flair, but never too loud for good conversations (well, maybe at prime time on Friday and Saturday nights...). Chairs are comfortable and it's not a madhouse like many restaurants in Portsmouth these days (in fact, I'm afraid this review might ruin that, but I don't want them to go the way of so many trendy restaurants in Portsmouth so here I write!). I've never tasted anything at Brazo (which includes my dining company's dishes) that I didn't think was delicious. And they are willing to take reservations for just two, which I am finding rarer these days, also. Keep it up, Brazo!
The friends we dined with recommended Brazo because they ate there 2-3 yrs ago and said it was very good. They and we were disappointed! Wait staff was very nice. The food not so much.
I had mussels as an app and at least 6 were not open and the sauce tasted like french onion soup. Bread was very good. The Taco very expensive for the portion size. I had Fish Taco it was good. The MoJo Pork was ordered by the rest of the table....sauce good but the pork was very dry and not tender. We passed on dessert and will pass on Brazo forever more.
We have dined at Brazos occasionally in the past and always had great service and a wonderful meal. It's been about a year since we were last there and what a disappointment, after 20 minutes we had to ask for a server , and it was not busy.
It seems that there have been dinner items removed from what was a small menu and is now even smaller. The food served was OK , it looks like we will have to find another favorite restaurant in Portsmouth.
As always, the food here was exceptional. My fiancé quite enjoyed the desert that she had, although it was a little different for my taste (garlic ice cream?!?). However, the waitress we had almost ruined the experience. She was very nice and genuine, but I'm guessing she doesn't have any experience as a waitress. The food took forever to get to our table, despite it not being crowded and we only saw her when she took our order, once when we had our food, and then when the bill came. She wasn't even the one that brought the food out to us. Again, great food, but for such a nice and on the expensive side restaurant, the service was unacceptable.
Our server, Angelle, was very welcoming, personable and knowledgeable about the menu. She offered several suggestions that were spot-on. The food was delicious and the portions generous. My husband especially liked the fried lobster served with a special sauce that he kept raving about. I enjoyed the mojo pork and found the accompanying gnocchi different and very tasty.
Take advantage of the valet parking when available.
My husband and I went to Brazo for date night this past Saturday and absolutely LOVED our meals. My husband raved that the Roasted Duck Breast was the best duck dish he has ever had, and he typically gets duck whenever we go to a nice restaurant (and he can be very picky!). My Prime Sirloin was cooked to perfection, and the chimichurri was fantastic. The Tres Leches cake is incredible. We are moving from Portsmouth to Andover, MA this weekend, but you can definitely count on us to come back to Brazo! It's our favorite restaurant! :)
Not sure if they are under new ownership, but it was not the bustling, lively, great food and atmosphere restaurant it used to be.
We left before ordering after being seated adjacent to the only other couple in the restaurant and seeing the menu was offering cauliflower "steak" for an entree instead of the great Brazilian food they used to.
Service was great: service was timed well and professionally. Our waitress was knowledgeable and friendly. We were there very early in order to get to a concert that evening. We appreciated her offer to turn down the music in our area when we asked to sit somewhere else. Food was great too! Not our 1st meal there and we will return.
Presentation is delightful -colors,creativity, height variety, texture! The dining experience begins with the eyes! Fresh, seasonal ingredients. Cocktails are smooth.
I wonder if the chef's and wait staff would suggest/offer salsa's and sauces to kick the flavor up (for the foodie types that need that little extra something). Perhaps some seasoning available table-side.
I will always return for food and lively conversation with friends!
Brazo's food was outstanding! Delicious! We had the empanadas, the salmon, and the steak. The drinks were delicious too! The service was kind and personal and seemed genuinely grateful for our compliments. The prices were a little higher than our normal fare but we had a gift card, and we'd love to return again (hint, hint!). :)
Delicious food and drinks, all with an interesting twist on the flavors. Highly recommend the cocktails, the mussels and the steak. Plenty of spice - ask, or let your server know, if you don't like things spicy. Beautiful indoor setting, warm colors and spaces that keep tables quiet enough for good conversation.
Ambience at this restaurant is cozy and comfortable, and the service was outstanding. Our waitperson checked on us at just the right moments, was personable, and knowledgable about the menu. We ordered 3 different tacos, which weren't very impressive. The chicken was rubbery and not flavorful, the condiments inside the tacos, though tasty, were minimal.
While we enjoyed the evening, the appetizer and my main course (soft shell crab) were over salted, and I like salty food . I informed my server and she simple stated that she would let the kitchen staff know , and she never got back to us concerning either dish.
This restaurant went from my favorite in Southern New Hampshire to my no longer going there. Several months ago they ran a special on a website for a $50 gift certificate for $25, I bought one in my name and one in my wife's because we love the place so much. The first night we went I brought my brother. Both ordered the Pork Mojo, which was very salty and we commented about that to the waitress. I ate half of mine and my brother didn't eat his at all. I forget what my wife had it but she said it was good. The comped us with free dessert. The Three Milk Cake - fantastic.
We were disappointed, but since we had another certificate my wife and I decided to try it again. I had The Smoked Chicken Breast which was rubbery to cut and pink inside. I returned it for the had to return it because the chicken was still pink inside. I returned it for the TAZON DE FIDEOS which waitress recommended was supposed to have a tomato broth. It was not satisfying.
We have since learned that the original owners sold at the restaurant in February 2016 and there is a new chef.
We went to Brazo because we had a Portsmouth Limelight Deal and we had never tried this restaurant. Some of the posted reviews on various websites were mixed, in particular one indicated that they thought the waitstaff was "offhand". WE did not find that to be the case, and our waitperson, Delaine, was superb in terms of being friendly, knowledgable bout the various dishes and helpful in assisting with our meal choices. The food was excellent and the Halibut special was superb. We will definitely return. Thank you for an enjoyable experience!
Two couples enjoyed a fabulous early dinner. Our server was enthusiastic, attentive and informed. The setting was just right. The Tapas Appetizer was fun to share and the entrees were creative and delicious. We especially enjoyed the halibut special with kale risotto. Oh, and the cocktails were great! Can't wait to go back!
