Bravas Bar de Tapas Ratings and Reviews
We were there June 3 for a friend's wedding and decided to have dinner here. Now, yes there was a heat wave going on for this time of the year- but that is the standard average temp for July, Aug & Sept. It was about 95* outside and about 80-85* inside the restaurant. I made the mistake of ordering a glass of red wine- it was served at ~80*... in wine country they should know better. I switch to a cocktail next. Girlfriend was smart and stuck to the Cava Sangria. Food was good, but not amazing. Fried chicken with the garlic toast was the best dish. Some dishes were slightly over salted. The pig cheeks were not braised enough tonight. The heat really ruined the dinner- making me more judgmental. Again, a month later and that is the standard temp for the area. So really a shame that they can't keep the restaurant at a decent temp. And wine should never be served way over room temp. I couldn't recommend this place in the late spring through early fall... seriously it was that bad. Service was good, friendly and pretty attentive- a couple times we were with out water, but it wasn't long. But we were downing water like we were in the Sahara. Pace of the meal was good too. I would give them another shot, but never in the summer.
We came to Bravas when they were only a year or so old and it had the ambiance then and the great wait staff, but their food was hit or miss. We came again last year and it was much improved, except for a loud music speaker issue. We came this time with two dear friends and were treated very well, lovely table (no speaker in our ears as we had experienced last time, hard to hear the conversation), your Albariño was perfect with all the luscious food we ate. We'll be back!!!
We ate here over Memorial weekend when the restaurant was bustling. Most of the dishes we ordered were delicious - particularly the calamares, prawns, and chicken thighs. I was less sure about the mustard pork riblets and the patatas bravas were either way overcooked or were not cooked fresh. Service was patchy - we waited a while to order (drinks or food) and it was difficult to get our server's attention when we wanted to order dessert and digestifs. But then it was one of the busiest weekends and we were in no major rush.
The food is really delicious--the Chorizo and Peppers were a real hit-- but the hospitality is what would bring me back. There was a noisy and rude group ahead of us, who were treated respectfully by the hostess. She then went out of her way to make sure we weren't seated by them, and even found a great table for us outside. Our server was so welcoming and accommodating that he really raised the level of our experience. He even brought us a generous sample of the night's paella, which we were too full to order but wanted to taste. Highly recommend this restaurant!
We ordered 5 items, two were good, one was so-so and the last two were burned.
The calamari was very god.
The Asparagus was nicely grilled but the alioli looked like it was Kraft Mayo from a jar
The trout escabache lacked flavor and a can of tuna could have been directly substituted without losing anything. The pickled onion, carrot, hot pepper was very good. The alioli was mainly French's mustard.
The bacon wrapped dates could have been good if the fry chef didn't burn them.
The rum balls were lacking substance, and also were either burned or picked up burnt residue from the oil.
Overall, this was a very disappointing experience considering how highly rated it was.
Biggest complaint was the hostess who got a little excessive in her menu-folding duties, taking a menu away from us as we reviewed it. She then looked at us like we were crazy for wanting to keep an unfolded menu at our table while waiting for our first plate to arrive. Otherwise, the service was pretty great. Some of the plates were a little more pricey than we would have expected after seeing the portions, but it was exceptionally prepared.
The first two visits I made to Bravas were amazing, so I had high hopes when I decided to bring a great friend there for her birthday. Unfortunately the experience was really a let down. The food was extremely slow coming, and for small plates, a single plate of roasted beets on the table for nearly a 1/2 hour is annoying. The tomato toast was as bland as could be and the rest of the items lacked any kind of enthusiasm. The wait staff and kitchen were way off their mark. Disappointing.
Best seafood paella in a long time. Wonderful distinctive flavors, crispy bottom rice and tender seafood! Comfortable outside seating on heated wood patio or lawn around orange trees. Very comfortable vibe with excellent food. Husband had tapas - equally tasty choices.
Good food, good patio, generally reliable and professional. But this time, they put a large and fractious dysfunctional family birthday party right on top of our lovely table, and let them run wild. I was not keen on having my chair repeatedly bumped and listening to uncreative cursing. Within reason, the staff have to control the room.
Experience spoiled with bad receptionist.
Came in with reservation and offered table closed to entrance while there are empty tables around.
As we ask better seating - they said other table has reservation; which we also had one.
Our waitress is excellent, our bus boy is excellent, the food is excellent.
Should pay attention to the receptionist as it set the entire mood on dining experience!!
Bravas is definitely an amazing local restaurant. Owned by the Stark family who are known for their dedication to quality foods of all styles. This tapas style restaurant has a wide range of small bites as well as doing fresh to order paella in the Spring and Summer! Great for lunch and dinner. I highly recommend eating outside on their terrace. They have heater lamps for the evening.
Bring a small group - that way you can delve deeper into their tapas and really taste more. We managed 4 and have to come back - there were so many on the list we wanted to try. We also wanted to try the paella, but couldn't do both. You'll love this place. Let your server guide you and take a look at what people are ordering. The plates are as beautiful as they are tasty.
Wonderfully flavorful small plates. Friendly service. Fantastic non-alcoholic beverages (the ginger fizzy lifting drink is amazing). Butterscotch on their Straus Family Soft Serve is to die for! Be prepared to fork over a substantial sum for this tasty cuisine. I'm going to save this one for special occasions only.
I love Bravas Bar de Tapas and wish I could transport them to San Diego! Love love love the sharing plates and everything is delicious. I also find that this restaurant is very reasonable compared to most in Healdsburg. We had friends with us on this trip & they loved it as well. Can't wait to return on my next visit.
This was my second dinner here and my husband's first. We were seated out back as requested on my reservation. Great wait staff all around. They were attentive enough without being intrusive and informative about the menu choices. We tried the clams in Cava and they recommended a bread order with it which looked like ciabatta schmered with goodness that was the best item we had. Also the octopus which was kind of bland and chewy (is that how octopus is?), anchovies which were very fresh and tasty, mushrooms which were very flavorful and went with everything and the riblets which were our least favorite with the mustard sauce. I tried a sparkling Cava and hubby had a beer, then on to Hartford Court Zinfandel. All good.
This has become our favorite dining out spot in Healdsburg. Our dinner guest from Spain enjoyed it. Yummy food, excellent wait staff, cool vibe. The only caution is that inside can be noisy at night when it is busy. Just reserve a table on the deck. You'll be warm, and the noise level is fine.
I have eaten at Bravos before with a so-so feeling. I have gone back several times hoping
that things would be better. Not so.
The garden is a gem of a place but the noise level had much to be desired. Acoustics are horrible! One had to practically yell to be heard at the table.
The food was acceptable, what little there was, but for the price, definitely not. Sorry, but everyone at my table, expressed their disappointment and none of us could or would recommend it to pattimacany of our friends.
