What we expected from reviews and recommendations from Manhatten Club. The service throughout the entire meal was attentive and gracious! We will recommend to friends especially anyone attending a show at Carnegie Hall or midtown event!

I stopped in here for a post-theatre bite a couple of weeks ago and we were delighted with everything - service, wine, and especially the tomato-goat cheese tart. But when we returned on Friday night pre-theatre, the service was beyond terrible. My friend's drink took almost a half hour to arrive. We had to rush our meal to make our curtain. My gin gimlet was delicious, but the entire experience left something to be desired.

Better as a very loud neighborhood bar and grill on a late Saturday night than a restaurant for a Wednesday evening dinner for two.

Food is good here and reasonably priced for NYC. Our server was all business - not personable at all. My husband’s steak was overcooked, and he just kept saying, “I told them blue.” He did not offer to have it replaced.

The gourgere and nicoise salad are wonderful. I love several other items on the menu (tuna tart, goat cheese appetizer, beet salad); as regular, I always receive a warm welcome. The service friendly but slow. It is noisy in the front, less noisy (festive?) in the back. I am a repeating customer: I always enjoy the food, the nice people, the ambiance,

We made a reservation for 7 and when we got there, they said there was none. After being seated it took over 30 minutes for a waiter to come to the table to take drink orders. It did not seem like a busy night, just severely understaffed. Food was satisfactory, but not satisfied with the portions for the price.

My husband loves their burger; I am partial to their fluffy and cheesy puffs. The prix fixe is a great value. Staff, sooo nice. We go quite often.

My sisters and niece and I wanted a spot with a varied menu which would have easy access for someone with a cane.

Everyone got a dinner that they loved. Since we only see one or two plays together, a good dinner post theater became a special occasion.

Avoid this restaurant! Friends from out of town asked us to book dinner near the theatre district, and the location and reviews seemed good. For an early dinner on Saturday, it was quite empty, yet we were given a table in the front, adjacent to the door of the men's room. It was more like a coffee shop than a brasserie. The waiter forgot part of the drinks order, but that was minor compared to the complete disappointment of the food: tough, inedible steaks and undercooked, tasteless French fries, followed by the lowest-quality supermarket ice cream on mushy tuiles. There is no excuse for food this bad; it's clear that no one cares about quality of meat or preparation. With so many great places in Midtown, avoid this restaurant. BLTs at the coffee shop across the street would have been better, and the ambience about the same.

Excellent pre-theater french bistro choice for Carnegie hall or, City Center. Professional, efficient service. Very good moules frites, crab cake and sancerre by the glass.

we arrived at 12:40, told our server we were ordering soup and salad because we were going to a 2 PM show. Soup arrived, but then nothing. At 1:30, we started waving at our server telling her that if we couldn’t get our salad immediately, we needed to cancel th order. We got the salads around 1:35, and requested our check immediately and inhaled our food.
Soup, salad, water for 2 with tax and tip came to $78.

We had an hour to eat before the opera and were late due to traffic. We explained our concern to the waitress and AMAZINGLY, our meal showed up in 10 minutes. We actually had time left for coffee.
Service level is amazing. the bread and butter...second to none and the taste of the food is incredible.
If you enjoy french style dining experience, you will not regret dining at Cognac.

We had a nice brunch before the theatre. The dining room is attractive. My only criticism is with the avocado toast. The avocado spread was a bit too spicy and the accompanying salad had too much vinegar.

A wonderful choice for City Center or Theater District, with beautifully presented food, a nice range of choices - including some lively salads - and courteous, friendly service. Unusually for restaurants in this neighborhood and price range, the tables are graciously spaced.

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Brasserie Cognac. The staff were professional and attentive. We enjoyed the spinach and beet salads, huge servings of crisp, fresh vegetables. The entrees of Berkshire pork chop and steak frites were cooked to perfection and also very generous in size. The frites were ok, but not up to Parisian standard. A good number of wines by the glass, and great coffee.
We were too full to manage desert.
Enjoyable French bistro food, give it a try

we were VERY disappointed this time: it is our "go-to" restaurant when we have a concert at Carnegie Hall: we could not sit in the back room (because they had not cleaned up from a party); the front room is also the bar...the pumpkin soup was good as was my friend's crab cake; the salad was "smallish" for sharing (we have noticed that the salads have been getting smaller...)and there was not a lot of avocado ...but the main problem was a couple sitting behind us. they were very loud. When my friend asked the waiter/manager to ask them politely to lower their voices, they were reluctant to do so and in fact, they did not and told us "they couldn't"...too bad for everyone: spoiled our dinner and we shall now look for another conveniently located spot .

Met a young colleague for a mid-afternoon discussion; and, while I had missed lunch and ordered the Yellowfin Tuna Tartare and iced tea, she simply indulged in a selection from the hot tea menu. Very simple and relaxed; so much so, that she invited her next appointment to come over to meet her at Cognac just as I was departing.
