Multiple visits. Good for brunch, lunch, business or personal. Type unique in this neighborhood.
Un cadre et une ambiance sympa. Des parts très copieuses mais pour une cuisine bonne mais qui manque de finesse dans les goûts et de soins dans la qualité de la présentation des plats.
Attentive service without been overwhelming. Good food and pleasant atmosphere
Classic, well-prepared brasserie food, with efficient and professional service. Definitely recommend!
Personnel could not be nicer. We arrived early for our 11:30 reservation-no problem! The weather was rainy and cool, our entry time for the Downton Abbey exhibit was at 1:30. So perfectly French-we enjoyed cappuccinos
And a leisurely lunch-nobody rushed us. We felt like we were in Paris, not touristy at all. Will definitely return,
And highly recommend.
Our waiter for a party of 16, was spectacular! Christian was his name, and he was flawless, sweet, and efficient. The food was really good, but I was more impressed with the good natured hospitality.
Very good value. Nothing spectacular but lunch/brunch special a very good value.
Always enjoy dining here. Staff make you feel at home and the food is great.
We were staying nearby and decided to try this restaurant, We love martinis, and we love chicken paillard. We sat at the bar and the bartender was great made great full drinks 🍸 and we decided to order dinner at the bar. The paillard comes with an arugula light dressing on top. The chicken was paper thin, spiced just right. We went back for an exact second meal . Both times the chicken was excellent, both bartenders made excellent drinks . A great mid fifties neighborhood gem.
It’s our favorite spot any time of the year! Food and wine variety is great, service is impeccable and the location pretty much to die for!
Always consistent--my go to for business lunches. Service and food are always terrific.
I try to eat here every time I am in NYC. It's a great spot. You can have a full meal or just a snack.
We were pleasantly surprised at the excellent cuisine - from the hour here’s to the martini- everything was perfect. A little pricey- glass of wine 15.00 so dinner for four was over 200.00- but the dining experience was well worth the price. We will definitely be returning!
This was our second visit to this restaurant. And it was as good as the first time. We stayed at a hotel a few blocks away . Breakfast was delicious and the service was great. This will definitely be one of our stops when we visit the city.
I took a friend for dinner before an 8pm Carnegie Hall performance. I arrived at 6pm, my guest at 6:30. When she arrived the waiter had not even poured water for the table. At 6:50 a waiter finally took our drink and food order. The drinks and appetizers arrived at 7:10. At 7:35 our dinner had not been delivered to us. We had to leave. As we were putting on our coats the dinner arrived and they were less than pleased that we would not stay to eat it. We would never go back.
Great location for theater (B'way & 55th), service efficient and friendly. Had cheese and tomato tart as shared appetizer, just right size for 2 or 3 to share if you don't want to get too full before main meal. I had excellent mussels, companion Nicoise salad, both good, and we were in plenty of time to make a 7:30 performance without feeling at all like we were waiting down to wire to get served or to get the bill paid. Would definitely return.
Very good went for restaurant week and will definitely retur
Our waiter Edgar was great
This is one of our local favorites on Broadway, on the corner of 55th. We visit NYC about 6 to 8 times a year and we use Cognac for our brunch on Sundays. We are never disappointed. this past visit was exceptional... great service... delicious food and excellent value!
Luckily, we were at a quiet evening at this restaurant - so it was very lovely and pleasant.
There are evenings at Congnac where the restaurant is very busy and very noisy - and
therefore not that pleasant.
Tasty dinner, nice ambiance, and attentive service. Will definitely return.
The Restaurant Week menu was great. I loved the escargot appetizer. My bass entree was delicious.
Fine evening of pretheater dinner.
Go to this restaurant every month before Carnegie Hall. Never disappointed. Always accommodating. Our regular waiter, Manuel, is fabulous and puts up with our requests with a smile.
Delicious food and the service was friendly and professional. Great French food option near Carnegie Hall.
Nice food and good atmosphere.
Dining was compromised with poor kitchen work
Unseasoned steak. Roasted chicken not crisp but soggy
Manager apologized and took one entree off the bill but three dishes were below what can be served
Very friendly and attentive staff. Good food. Paul the bartender great drinks and good company.
Busboys could have been a little bit more attentive ( had to ask a few times for water refills). Other than that, service was pleasant and food delicious!
The food and atmosphere were wonderful. The service was a bit slow but only because there was not enough staffing but our server was excellent. Unfortunately, the evening was not quite perfect due to the temperature of the restaurant. It was extremely hot which made dinner very uncomfortable. However, we would definitely give this restaurant another try.
Good food, excellent location and fantastic service!
Really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere.
This is always a reliable restaurant uptown or midtown.
go to their Eastside location. This location is not up to par with the other.
First time dining here during restaurant week. Escargots were delicious followed by the Hanger steak a la steak frites style with French fries and finally the dessert which was great. Had a pleasant dining experience.
We had a great waiter, Bladimir (sp?) who was exceptionally attentive and made great recommendations. The food, as usual, was excellent.
Service was slow. Tables were cramped. Soup was semi cold, burger was dry and overdone. Brioches buns were stale
My salmon salad was beautifully presented, and my friend loved the escargot. We both had hanger steak with béarnaise, which was excellently prepared. Great coffee, too.
This place is a typical tourist trap - it is conveniently close to Carnegie Hall (we were heading there after dinner) and the Times Square. We are very familiar with the French cuisine - and found that this restaurant's food was of acceptable quality (but, for example, their soups and salad dishes were very average in quality), however, the service was abominable. The waiter was rushing us and making wrong assumptions about what we had ordered - and i generally was not happy with the way he was interacting with us. I noticed that he was serving too many tables at the same time, so it is possible that he had too much on his plate. I will never go back again and don't recommend this place to anybody who likes real French food. It would have been better if we had just stopped by at the nearby Maison Kayser cafe...
While the waiter was efficient, the restaurant was extremely short- staffed, with what looked like one waiter attending to all the tables; assisting him were busboys who had to refer all inquiries and requests to the waiter and only did the serving.
My wife and I were in NYC for a recital at Carnegie Hall. We had never eaten at Brasserie Cognac before, but we know it was close by and that it had a good reputation. We're glad we gave it a try, and we'll be back. We especially appreciate how our waiter managed to provide very good service, despite being seriously overworked (you need a second waiter in the southeast section when it's busy).
The restaurant should re do it’s billing system. Ok to tell us what the tip would be at 15 20 25% but the same amount showed up once we split the bill. If I hadn’t been paying attention we both would have given 20% or 40%!
The waiter showed me on the bottom of the bill that the amount was based on the total check and to split it. Put that language on the TOP of the split bill. So there would be no mistakes.
