Food was great, service absent. The waitress was literally absent. We had to flag down the waitress, or a busboy, for every single want or need. We were initially disappointed because very early, 7:30, on a cold winter Saturday evening they were out of beef bourguignon, the reason we chose this restaurant. Attempted to explain our disappointment with the service to the “manager” after the dinner, we were summarily dismissed. Will NEVER dine there again.

We very much enjoyed our dinner
The only comment concerning the food is that the paillard while generous was somewhat dry - a difficult dish I know to keep moist.
Otherwise a lovely evening!

NOT LGBT FRIENDLY!!!! I was on a date with my partner and the waiter refused service to us. He clearly was homophobic. I had to get up and ask the host every time I needed something, which was 5 times in total. I only saw the waiter once! If you’re gay do not eat here!!!

My husband and I were promptly seated. The service was wonderful because staff was very attentive. The food was delicious and the only reason I did not give 5 stars was because part of my dinner arrived cold. Luckily when I mixed with my meat & sauce it warmed it up. I would definitely recommend if you have tickets to the theater. They made sure to get us out the door just in time. My husband and I are planning a return visit it was so good!

Have been going there for a number of years when we attend a concert at Carnegie Hall, and within a walking distance of Broadway theatres.
Selection of starters is very good along with a nice selection of wine by the glass.

Excellent dishes from a standard French menu. In my party, everyone was very satisfied with the taste, presentation and portion.

Dishes are overly salted. Waiter too aggressively empties wine bottles to refill.

The service was fantastic; servers and bus staff were fast and courteous. Nice atmosphere for a romantic date. The food was delicious too, especially the grilled octopus salad and beef bourguinon.

I used to go to Cognac a lot but tonight i was reminded why I don’t go anymore. It went from bad to worse. It took forever to get anything. I asked if they could do the tuna tartare without cilantro and they refused. We could not get any service unless we hunted them down. It was insanely hot in the restaurant and they had these awful new light bulbs blinding us as we sat there.

The food wasn’t good. The wine was too warm for a Chardonnay.

Not somewhere I’d go back.

We showed up early for our reservation and they found us a corner table. The ambiance was terrific. I wasn't over the moon about their cocktail selection, but it was ok. The food, however, was fantastic. Many great options. The service was unfortunate - either they were understaffed or our waiter quit halfway through our meal. He disappeared. There were other staff that 'covered' for him, but it was slow and disjointed. Overall - I would go there again because the food was really good, I just might try to find a different waiter.

Four of us dined at Cognac--first time!-- having found you in Zagat, in the area of midtown where we were going to be. We liked the variety of your menu and wine list, and the not-over-the-top prices. We shared two appetizers, had four entrees, and a good Cotes du Rhone, and got out for just under $100 per couple (not including tip). The food was very good--nice ingredients and well cooked. Imaginative sides. We'd never had pommes de terre marmalade before, and it was delicious with the pork chop. I plan to try to make it at home, having gotten a couple of tips from our waiter, who was good-humored, but not overbearing. Pleasant ambience. Handsome clock! The risotto with truffles was delicious. Also the boeuf bourgignon was very fine.

What we expected from reviews and recommendations from Manhatten Club. The service throughout the entire meal was attentive and gracious! We will recommend to friends especially anyone attending a show at Carnegie Hall or midtown event!

I stopped in here for a post-theatre bite a couple of weeks ago and we were delighted with everything - service, wine, and especially the tomato-goat cheese tart. But when we returned on Friday night pre-theatre, the service was beyond terrible. My friend's drink took almost a half hour to arrive. We had to rush our meal to make our curtain. My gin gimlet was delicious, but the entire experience left something to be desired.

Better as a very loud neighborhood bar and grill on a late Saturday night than a restaurant for a Wednesday evening dinner for two.

Food is good here and reasonably priced for NYC. Our server was all business - not personable at all. My husband’s steak was overcooked, and he just kept saying, “I told them blue.” He did not offer to have it replaced.

The gourgere and nicoise salad are wonderful. I love several other items on the menu (tuna tart, goat cheese appetizer, beet salad); as regular, I always receive a warm welcome. The service friendly but slow. It is noisy in the front, less noisy (festive?) in the back. I am a repeating customer: I always enjoy the food, the nice people, the ambiance,

We made a reservation for 7 and when we got there, they said there was none. After being seated it took over 30 minutes for a waiter to come to the table to take drink orders. It did not seem like a busy night, just severely understaffed. Food was satisfactory, but not satisfied with the portions for the price.

My sisters and niece and I wanted a spot with a varied menu which would have easy access for someone with a cane.

Everyone got a dinner that they loved. Since we only see one or two plays together, a good dinner post theater became a special occasion.

Avoid this restaurant! Friends from out of town asked us to book dinner near the theatre district, and the location and reviews seemed good. For an early dinner on Saturday, it was quite empty, yet we were given a table in the front, adjacent to the door of the men's room. It was more like a coffee shop than a brasserie. The waiter forgot part of the drinks order, but that was minor compared to the complete disappointment of the food: tough, inedible steaks and undercooked, tasteless French fries, followed by the lowest-quality supermarket ice cream on mushy tuiles. There is no excuse for food this bad; it's clear that no one cares about quality of meat or preparation. With so many great places in Midtown, avoid this restaurant. BLTs at the coffee shop across the street would have been better, and the ambience about the same.
