Food is very good and price is reasonable. Staff is friendly and provide good service. Their mushroom risotto is usually amazing!

This is the second time I've eaten here (the first was lunch, many years ago). My companion suggested it, as it is near Hunter College, and she had an event there she wanted to attend. I had not been too impressed the first time, but this time it was very pleasant. My companion first had the squash soup, which was one of the specials offered, and then the cheese fondue. I had the mussels. Each of us had a glass of wine, and we both had coffee afterward. I was pleasantly surprised by the price, which I thought was good value, and the service was really excellent --beginning with the fact that that the hostess had saved a banquette for us, as my companion had wanted, and continuing on through the coffee -- my companion wanted espresso and as they didn't bring a lemon peel with it, she requested one and it arrived rapidly. My mussels were very good -- maybe not the largest in creation, but plenty of them, and plenty of sauce to go with them, plus fine French fries. My companion said her squash soup was only average, and it took a few minutes for her fondue to heat up as much as she wanted, but it was sitting on a nice little gas fire, so it did warm up eventually and I think she enjoyed it

We enjoyed the food and service with friends on Sunday night. The tuna appetizer and halibut special were very good as was the onion soup and Niçoise salad.

Excellent food, wonderful service! For a change an unhurried meal with discreet yet totally attentive service and in a lovely setting where we could all hear ourselves talk! From the cheese platter to entrees, specials and dessert, outstanding all around!

I have often enjoyed lunch at Cognacs but this was my first dinner and everything was outstanding. Food surpassed all expectations.

Just meh. Not the best onion soup I’ve had and nothing about this place is great. The service is lackluster and the prices are high.

Great French restaurant with excellent quality food, and a cosy ambiance. It can be comforting and romantic. Lots of character and interest dishes.

A wonderful surprise and reminder of how nice Cognac can be. It was a dual Birthday celebration with a friend and business colleague; quiet and cozy.
Food was excellent. Service was good; we were not rushed nor neglected.
I highly recommend the soufflés: cheese and chocolate.

The food and atmosphere were ordinary and the service
was good. But, charging $2 MORE for a drink ordered
straight up is insulting for a neighborhood place.
Other places around the area are just as good
and drink charge is the same no matter how it
is served.

I always find this restaurant very good. Tonight, however, it fell short.we waited outside for nearly 30 minutes with no food . After a few minutes they brought out main dish and never brought the salad. The burger came without cheese and when we sent it back the french fries were cold.
We were treated to desserts so it did make up for the lack of attention. Still, a lovely evening and I would recommend it again.

This restaurant had received very good reviews and I was disappointed. The service was quite good but the food was dry and I felt we were being rushed through dinner. The chocolate souffle was to die for and that was a special treat. It was a pleasant fall evening but the restaurant was quite warm and I had to ask twice for them to put on the air conditioning...Wish it held up to expectations.

Delicious French cuisine in a lovely setting but it is a bit loud. However, I still plan to return. They serve the best tuna tartare that I have ever had

I ordered the scallop dish and while it was very tasty, the portion was quite small. I would say the same about the vodka cocktail I had.

We found this gem as we were searching for a nice restaurant in the area. We had a lovely evening! Our wait staff was very attentive but gave us a ton of privacy as well. The food was spectacular! Very authentic. The ambiance of this quaint restaurant was just as if we were IN Paris. I hope we get a chance to go back again on our next trip to NYC!

We have been to Brasserie Cognac East many times and it never disappoints. The food is consistently excellent and the service on this particular visit was excellent as well (occasionally it can be a bit slow, depending upon how busy the place is). We prefer sitting upstairs where the atmosphere is generally much calmer and more relaxing than downstairs (I would describe downstairs as "lively" -- it can be a bit noisy). All in all we had a lovely evening.

My wife and I dined at Cognac East on October 1. The food was Good, but not memorable. The service - polite and unobtrusive. After spending a great deal of time traveling in France in the course of three decades and eating in French restaurants in this country and in Europe, we were surprised to see that the bread basket brought by the server ahead of the meal had four very thinly sliced pieces of baguette, not very fresh at that. I have never seen a baguette sliced so thinly in any restaurant. But the thing that really tarnished our impression about the dinner was a rather unpleasant, if not gross, incident, unnoticed by virtually all patrons, in which a gentleman (who, we assumed, was the manager) kicked away several matchsticks of French fries, accidentally dropped on the floor by a server, under the nearby counter. Not a good sign for the way things are done at this place, let alone cleanliness/sanitary considerations.

I feel lucky to have this restaurant in my neighborhood. They are very welcoming and unpretentious. The Branzino is always good and had an interesting accompaniment of some sort of grain with pumpkin seeds. My one wish is that they would vary the menu a little bit. They should keep what they have, but add a few things, especially some lighter appetizers.

Cognac East offers an authentic Parisian bistro experience on Manhattan's upper East Side. The food here is very good, with ingredients always fresh. On this occasion we were meeting friends who were in town visiting from Israel. Everyone was very satisfied. I had the cod with black rice, which was really delicious, followed by their decadent profiteroles. At Cognac East, the always attentive service is just outstanding. You can't go wrong here!

There are dishes here that are consistently good and worth sticking with. The scallops are delicious, the burgers good, the chicken salad. It is a nice, UES French bistro that gets a good crowd for good food at reasonable prices.

Service was awful. Food came out at different times for our table, always placed in front of the wrong person - then we waited 5-10 minutes for the fourth dish to come. The food was mediocre. Soggy bread under avocado toast? It's a nice location but too bad the restaurant is so poorly run.

Very nice casual dining. We sat outside which was very pleasant. The waiter was friendly and the food was good. We ate the tomato goat cheese tart and we split an Avacado salad. It was a bit pricey, but I would recommend it to a friend .

What a disaster this lunch was. We were meeting someone, so unfortunately couldn't go to another restaurant. We arrived to find that the kitchen wasn't working. Evidently the vent to the stove was broken so all they were serving was salads and cold food. My tuna tartar was way below par (I've had it there before), and my husband's chicken salad was half the portion size it normally is. We were not offered anything to compensate for this dismal lunch.
As I had made the reservation through Open Table, they should have contacted me so that I could choose whether to go there or not. As it was, we were stuck, and it was a horrible experience. No one was there. They should have just closed it down until they repaired the vent.
