I've been here many times and was always very happy with the experience. But this time the service was slow and indifferent, my old time favorite - cheese shouffle was tasteless - I detected no cheese.
Too bad but I'll not be back.
Really great food, lovely ambiance. Nice staff. Would highly recommend
I have been to this restaurant many times and the manager tonight was unfamiliar to me. He had an arrogant and non accommodating attitude. This used to be my go to restaurant in my neighborhood but I may not go back there again.
My go to neighborhood restaurant. Varied menu, always delicious and attentive service. Dependable, reliable and quiet enough to have a conversation.
I have been to brasserie cognac multiple times in the past and have always had a good experience. This time, unfortunately, was a really bad experience. We waited about 20 minutes for our wine, and no one came back to pour us a second glass. We had menus for the better part of an hour with no one coming to tell us about specials or taking our order. Finally when we did order, one of our entrées was missing. Three of us were finished with dinner by the time I was fourth Diner was served. It took forever to get the check. The food was good but the service marred the experience, especially for our friends who are there for the first time. Our server mentioned they were using a new computer system which might be the reason, but they better get it fixed soon.
Very cozy restaurant in great location. The problems are two-fold: the tables are crammed together making it very noisy; and the service is indifferent.
FABULOUS! My "go to"restaurant on the Eastside. Especially the mussels!
Beautiful restaurant with excellent staff, accommodating and friendly. However, the clientele is extremely stuffy. My father and I had dinner with my cousin visiting from D.C. we had a lot to celebrate after a long time apart. A pretty standard UES dragon lady interrupted our nice meal to tell us we were too loud for this establishment. Our party, and this woman and her husband, were the only ones upstairs. It’s only natural that you might hear us in our celebratory tone. Regardless, it was rude, and jarring. We politely obliged and tried not to let her words ruin our experience. The food was delicious and the staff was lovely, but I will not return knowing the fellow diners I would be subjecting myself and loved ones too.
Great old time French cooking! We will return.
Cognac is a delight. Vrai bistro.
A bit pricy
The food from appetizers, entrees, dessert are excellent!
Wonderful place for a casual meal — friendly, cheerful, and attractive, with quite good food.
Easter brunch was great! Service outstanding!
Always a favorite French Brasserie to join a friend for a special celebration with the most delicious escargot, goat & tomato tart and always for Mussels!! Wines by the glass are a superb choice to marry your meal with...
Order the chocolate soufflé- it’s totally worth a 20-minute wait!
Waiter didn’t seem to like that we did not order wine.
Getting beyond that, salads were good and ancillary service attentive. Problems started when the entrees were brought out. The Beef Bourguignon was tasteless - surprising as this is a signature dish.
And 2 entrees of chicken were over cooked: dry stringy and difficult to cut. Basically not edible.
Our waiter was pleasant enough although did not offer any apology. Since 2 entrees were already being eaten, we figured the best and quickest way to continue our meal - all together - was to order burgers. Wrong. Those took an inordinate amount of time to arrive. My friend and I were finished with our meals for awhile before the burgers were brought to the table.
During this entire time, our waiter was nowhere to be seen. When we were finished we asked for the check. There was no attempt to offer us anything for our inconvenience and for basically ruining our dinner. When the check was brought to us the 2 more expensive chicken entrees were on the check.
Tacky treatment and a negatively memorable experience.
We enjoyed our dinner especially as it was a lovely evening and there was a table for 4 available outside. Being on the side street and not inside was actually more enjoyable as the last time we were there it was rather noisy. We were each accommodated with special requests, i.e. steamed vegetables. The portions appeared to be a bit smaller and adequate. The food was enjoyable.
The food would have gotten four stars had they not sent out my salmon filet well done when I asked for it medium rare. Not a hard thing to do.
I enjoyed my escargots but for a “French” bistro, the bread could have been much better. It was fine for a pre-theater meal.
Too noisy over priced but convenient and comfortable
Brunch for family of ten Saturday AM. Brasserie was a perfect venue. Menu offered something for everyone and for every taste and diet and for ages from 12 to 81!
It would have been better not to sit near the bar, because the noise level was rather high there.
Good food and wine served timely and well.
The food was good. Cute ambiance and it seems like an UES institution. But the best part of the meal was actually our waiter. He was super friendly and improved the entire experience. He really seemed to enjoy his job. Being wait staff is not easy so kudos to him and the restaurant.
I eat there often. It’s a reliable neighborhood restaurant.
Ambiance & service are wonderful, but underwhelmed by the burger, the very dry bouillabaisse which had too much tomato and disappointing desserts-the floating islands were rubbery & chocolate cake was actually a dry chocolate and raspberry mousse cake.
The food was excellent and the service, spot on. Very nice restaurant.
Delicious salad with seared tuna, but small portion for dinner. Delicious Tarte Tatin for dessert. Friendly, prompt service.
Very good food.
The waiters were surly and overly friendly and intrusive. My tuna tasted as if had been sitting around for quite a while, and the drinks were watery. However, my sister likes it better than East Pole fish across the street. I like the East Pole fish place better. Frankly, we could really use some better restaurants in this neighborhood.
Their famous cheese soufflé had very little cheese and was the consistency of rubber. A huge disappointment
We adored this small'ish bistro. The service and treatment we received by everyone that greeted and served us, were 5 Star. The Croque Monsieur was the best I have ever eaten! We will return!
Nice ambience and great service. We enjoyed sitting at the bar before dinner. The drinks were delicious and the bartender was helpful in picking out a great wine.
Very good food
Beautiful. Comfortable. The crowd tends to lean towards not young people.
Snotty waiters with mega attitudes
A neighborhood gem! The fondue was absolutely amazing, highly recommended. Great ambiance, a wonderful space, and nicely priced.
The food was excellent and service was fantastic. Can’t wait to go back.
Very good ! Excellent service
