By combining superior quality ingredients with flawless execution and a commitment to providing the exceptional guest experience, we are transforming the uniquely French concept of a traditional brasserie –a full service restaurant with an extended drink list –into Sacramento’s newest food and drink destination.
Wanted to try somewhere new for Restaurant Week. How I regret this choice. The French onion soup was inedible- very poor flavor and unappealing. The salmon was decent, but the risotto was lacking. I can make a much tastier and creamier one at home. Dessert was ok, but portion was unacceptably small. Overall a big disappointment. Had hoped to find a decent Brasserie in Sacramento but I guess I’ll need to return to Yountville instead.
Food was excellent. Waiter was great, but hostess was not personable the moment we walked up to check in, and even after we were seated.
About the four time I've been The renditions of the classic french bistro classics were a bit too far removed from the traditional, and should have been noted as such. The boeuf bourguignon had a broth so light it resembled a pot au feu. It was a bit meek and lukewarm, and the soupe a l'oignon too salty. If you chose to go during dine downtown, note that you may be better off ordering off the menu. As is the practice, the portion sizes are not only scaled down (the dessert was 1" on a side) but the regular menu prices will often be less for larger portions of the same dishes.
Food was good. Chose this restaurant for restaurant week because of the online menu. The night we were there the menu was different. They accommodated us to a point but thought they could have done a better job when we voiced why we chose them in the first place.
Wonderful downtown location very close to the Capitol, the Community Theater and the Memorial Auditorium. Very pleasant French bistro atmosphere. Our server was very nice, though the hostess could have been more pleasant. The food was very good. The French Onion soup was very well done. The salmon prepared in a curry sauce was delicious. Great choice for dinner prior to the theater.
My husband and I went for dinner during restaurant week. This was our first visit to this restaurant. I appreciated having free parking in the basement. My husband felt that the tables next to him were a little close, but I felt I had plenty of space on my side of the table. He ordered from the prix fixe menu, and chose the lamb shank, salad, and dessert. They were all good. I ordered off regular menu and ordered the trout, which was also good. Both dishes were nicely presented. The cocktails were good. Service was good.
Good food. Onion soup. Beef burguñon. Minuscule chocolate cake. All good. Ok service.
Was there for Dine Around Sacramento. Upscale restaurants participating have a 3 course menu for $40. We had the 3 courses, small bowl of onion soup, salmon with hardly any veggies and the smallest dessert I've ever seen. About 1 1/2 inches square & 1 1/2 inches high.
I'm really disappointed. I have been wanting to go to the restaurant for awhile. I didn't like the service we received. I expected a more intimate experience but instead we had a bunch of wait staff running around us. Nobody refilled our glasses of water.
We visited during Dine Downtown. We had a nice evening with great food and wine!
The Dine Downtown menu online was different than the menu at the restaurant. The food and our server were just okay. Nothing special.
Went for Dine downtown. We were off to a rough start as we showed up early for drinks at the bar. The hostess was very crabby and insisted we sit at our table and have drinks there instead. The menu online was different than what was being served. Turns out they used last years menu so had to rethink my order. The salmon was delicious and ample. My friends had beef Bourgogne which was tasty. Our server was nice but didn’t seem to have much experience in “fine dining “. He made up for it with his wonderful personality. I did check out the regular menu and am interested in returning for another try.
I decided to give BC a try during Dine Downtown week and went with two friends. One of them decided to not order from the DD menu, which seemed to throw the wait staff off. My friends first course came, but not for those ordering from the DD menu, then a second course came for my friend still nothing for those ordering from the DD menu. Then the main courses from the DD menu were delivered. At this point we made the staff aware of their error, they were very apologetic, took back the main courses delivered without first delivering the first course and after a while brought out the first course, then it took forever to get the main course.
The waiter was very apologetic, didn't charge my friend for the wine or cappuccino she ordered, but she wasn't the one who didn't get her meal in a timely fashion, which really annoyed me.
First time at this restaurant.
The french onion soup was great as was everything else.
Food was perfect. Interior is lovely. Wait staff needs better training about wine list. Hostess was cold and a bit surly.
We went there for the Dining Around Sacramento fixed price menu. I looked at all restaurants and chose Brasserie because of their menu. I looked at the menu again the day of our reservation. When we arrived all three courses had changed. My husband and I have diverse food tastes so I chose a menu that fit both our palates. We ended up ordering off the main menu and even then our first choice was not available, and our reservation was early in the evening at 6pm. We were terribly disappointed and do not plan to patronize this restaurant in the future.
We visited for Dine Downtown and were disappointed that the menu advertised online did not match what was on the menu we were given when seated. The hostess was unapologetic. The food was well executed but the portions were small (I can only speak to what I saw being served for Dine Downtown in comparison to regular off the menu orders). We enjoy Dine Downtown every year and would not return to Brasserie Capitale for this event in the future.
Our table was right next to a large group celebrating a bride to be. At times they got very loud. I think a group of that size (12-14) should be in a private area. No matter how polite they were being a group that size can effect the ambience of the room and it was not the experience I was expecting. Otherwise food was very good; especially the scallops and the service was very accommodating.
I loved it and can not wait to go back to try something else.
Had the fixed price memu on Friday and was disappointed. The Bœuf Bourguignon was fatty and the desert, a chocolate mouse, came out frozen. Also, although the advertised desert was a creme brulee, the waiter advised that it was not offered on the Dine Downtown menu. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere, but I wouldn't go back with so many better options in the area. From the bread to the desert, there just wasn't anything outstanding in the meal. Sorry to say, because I had higher hopes!
LOVE the Quiche Lorraine! Quick, efficient and friendly service, definitely will be back!
Excellent French menu.
I went with my wife to this restarant we had not been to before. The hostess seemed on the cold side not the usual friendly one would expect but thst did not much bother me.
My wife ordered a salad and scallops and she was not at all happy with it. The salad was just some plain lettuce and the scallops were a meager 3 on a large plate.
My meal was much better, actually really good. I had some shrimps in a wonderful sauce. My wife tasted mine she was enthralled by it. I had a steak that was absolutely delicios and a dessert which was slso excellent. The server was very busy as it was New Year’s eve, she did well.
My wife and I had dinner here on New Year's Eve. We have been here many times in the past and have always enjoyed the experience. NYE was not a great experience. Service was spotty, my martini was on the small side (after charging an extra $1.00 for blue cheese olives). The gravlox, one of our favorite appetizers, was definitely a smaller portion, my wife had 3 scallops, not the typical 5 she recalls getting, my filet was overcooked and hard to cut. Asked for bread which was never received. Some restaurants can handle a holiday better than others..........unfortunately, this is not one of them. We may return at some point in the future but will make certain it is not on a holiday!!
We had NYE dinner and although we were 15 minutes late, we had a table ready for us. I wasn't thrilled that the table had a window into the kitchen, but maybe other people like that sort of thing. The wait staff were pleasant and professional. The food was delicious and not overcooked. We did not have to wait too long for our entree and overall we received our starter, appetizer and entree with plenty of time to get to our next venue. It is also great to have free parking under the restaurant.
36th Anniversary dinner while we were in Sacramento visiting family for Christmas. Simply outstanding ... we had a wonderful experience and dinner. Thank you for a very memorable night!
We were disappointed that the Christmas eve menu was limited. Last year I had the best trout ever.
There were two items I requested, and waiter said they were out of them: 1. a glass of Bordeaux Wine 2. Profiteroles for dessert. It was Christmas Eve, and I did not get the sense that the staff really cared about Christmas Eve. If you are going to be open for Christmas Eve, you must have full commitment to satisfy everyone!
Always the best when we visit. Our waiter was charming and attentive, but not intrusive. The food was terrific; my father especially enjoyed his scallops and was extremely pleased with how it was prepared. Scallops are not easy to get right, but your chefs made it seem easy.
Thanks again for a terrific evening!
It feels like this is one of Sacramento's "Best Kept Secrets". Brasserie Capitale is within a block of other very high-profile restaurants where it seem difficult to even get a reservation. Yet we always find a table at Brasserie Capitale where their gourmet menu is at least as good and no more expensive. Additionally, they have a beautiful (and quiet) dining room and service that is attentive without being over-bearing. Want more? There's also free parking!
Our waiter was fantastic, great service and good recommendations. Food was excellent and wine by the glass selection was nice. Lovely evening.
The service was excellent. The wine and food was delicious. The price point incredibly fair for such an outstanding meal!
I've been here twice in the last couple of months. The first time I ordered the Steak Frites which was excellent. So, I wanted to come back for Christmas, have the steak and experience beautiful decor and Christmas ambiance. To my disappointment, there were no twinkling lights or wreaths, not even candles on the tables. There was Christmas music. We drove by Il Fornio later, and that restaurant was just beautiful for Christmas. Also, both times I came to BC, they were out of the wine I wanted to order. The second time the waiter made an excellent recommendation instead. This place has so much potential - but so far I'm underwhelmed.
One of my absolute favorite restaurants in Sacramento
Wonderful dinner and atmosphere! We were there with hearing impaired friends and could easily carry on a conversation.
Food was excellent but the atmosphere was something to be desired. No charm and a bit cold feeling.
We order the deviled eggs, halibut, and pork chop and all were very tasty. Received top service. Overall it was a great dinning experience. Will go back.
Brasserie Capitale is great for business lunches. You can converse without having to raise your voice, and the entrees are delicious.
My wife and I had an amazing experience at this restaurant. The food was exquisite and the staff were charming. We will be planning on dining there again.
Pleasantly surprised. Great food and service
