Branch - Permanently Closed Ratings and Reviews
Glad we got a chance to eat at Branch before it closed down. Heard a lot about it from friends. The duck fat fries were great , being exceptionally salty that day was a negative. The mussels were large and tender but the sauce was too bay leaf & fennel heavy for us.
My friend ordered the old fashioned and it was perfect. I got a whiskey sour, it was a little heavy on the lemon juice and the candied cherries in both drinks were overly sweet with an unappealing mushy texture. The duck fat fries though were great. The dipping sauce the fries came with was addicting. The fry portion is almost enough for 3 people. Great ambience. Will definitely be coming here again.
Very good food. I ordered the mussels and it was overflowing in the bowl. It was delicious and very filling. My boyfriend ordered the special of the day, 30 day aged ribeye. It was very good but could have been a bit bigger for the price. Drinks were yummy.
Once again, Branch does not disappoint! Fantastic food by chef Scott combined with excellent service by Jim is a win win combination! Starting with cocktails, moving to prosciutto wrapped dates and duck fat fries and on to the hanger steak with blue cheese frites , a burger and some lamb cheeks alongside a killer Chianti, the meal was a terrific start to the week for all 5 of us. Personal service with great food, you must try Branch!!!
If you visit Branch, order the truffle mac and cheese, any of the steak dishes, halibut ceviche and duck fat fries. The mac and cheese was shared between three of us and we could have ordered another; it was that rich and delicious. The halibut ceviche was fresh with a hint of spice from the chipotle sauce.
I've visited several times and these, the steak and the burgers are absolutely the best dishes there. The whiskey list is impressive and priced well.
Couple of deltas: We ordered the daily veggie and it didn't arrive and we were charged for it. They removed this after we told them. We also ordered the panna cotta and it was bland so didn't eat it and were also charged for it; overall the service could be better. We didn't feel "cared for".
Awesome cocktails & yummy food, even if a bit rich (as in delicious, high fat content). If I were in the mood for a burger this is the place I would go. Also perfect for a cocktail or two with some great nibbles beyond french fries (which are delicious there nonetheless).
Waitress provided drink menu, but everything we ordered the bartender did not have time to make therefore we instead had water. We ordered a sprite, whiskey sour, and grapefruit juice (juice because the waitress said all their juices were pressed fresh). 3 course meal, took 3 1/2 hours. Food was delicious, but they need to hire another bartender, chef, and wait staff.
Dined here with a friend during Portland Dining Month. The salad had the best dandelion greens we'd ever had along with Rogue Valley blue cheese and pears. One of our courses was a Maine lobster pot pie with parsnip, morel, peas and potatoes. The other was an English pea and mint tortellini with goat butter, morel and smoked chicken egg. The dessert was a chocolate bombe honeycomb with bourbon honey and frothed buttermilk. Our service was great and the food was outstanding.
We took advantage of March dining month to try Branch before attending a function at Alberta Rose Theater. The menu choices were excellent. We normally share with each other, so it was a great opportunity to try different menu preparations. We also decided to go with thesuggested wine pairings and whiskey beer pairings. The food was excellent as they have a chef who seems to enjoy experimenting. Everything went together perfectly besides just being a food treat. Service was on the spot, but not overbearing. We have already suggested Branch to a number of other people. Honestly, if I had just looked at the website menu, I would've probably just passed, but the three course experiment was great. Branch also had other excellent sounding specials on the menu board that were not on the website menu. Make sure your go to find out on your own... nice experience.
Amazing evening taken care of by the fine staff at Branch. We enjoyed the prix fixe valentines weekend meal with paired wine. We're no foodies, but we might as well consider ourselves as having had a foodie experience tonight. What an AMAZING evening we had tonight. Each course truly better than the last. Hard to describe how good the food was, and how well they'd pared the wine. It was a great find and we will definitely be back!
The food was absolutely amazing. Chef Scott is a fabulous chef with everyday and unusual ingredients blending into an unforgettable meal. The drinks were wonderful as well. Our server, Jim was knowledgeable, friendly and gave some of the best service we ever had. This is more than a bar, it's an unexpected treat. Go and enjoy!
the menu was limited the night we visited but still very good. We sampled the bread, olives and lobster corndogs from the appetizer section. The corndogs took a while but were delicious. We sampled the hanger steak frites, the truffle mac and cheese, and the burger for dinner. They were all very good. The mac and cheese was very rich.
Service was good but twice a waitperson asked us if we wanted anything else and then didn't stick around long enough for an answer.
We would go back and try it again.
The food here is amazing, however the overall service was a bit slow. It took us 45 mins to get our food and generally that wouldn't bother me as good food takes time to prepare, but our server never really took care of us. He never refilled our drinks, I had to go to the bar to ask for refills. Never apologized for the long wait or even asked how our food was. it was easy to see he was stressed as the kitchen was backed up but you over compensate by giving amazing service and engaging your guests rather then yell at the kitchen all night. Its also very loud. It felt like having a nice dinner at a rock concert. I would go back for the food, maybe on a slower night.
My daughter and I went on a Thursday night 8:30-ish and had a great experience which was very surprising to both of us after reading terrible reviews and getting first-hand advice from close friends not to go there due to lack of wait staff. We were greeted and seated quickly and ordered drinks and several appetizers to share, Wagyu beef tartar, prosciutto wrapped dates on rosemary skewers, and duck fat French fries. All were very tasty! We have no complaints, except that we didn't have any entertaining, terrible stories to share.
This is a nice restaurant. The chicken was great! The steak was so-so. I would have given the restaurant a higher rating if they had been more flexible (the waitress said there could be no changes in an order because "too much work goes into an entree". errrr, ok I guess. The other problem I had was how long it took for them to prepare our entrees. We had a show to go to and I informed the waitress about that. But I still took a good 50 minutes for our entrees to arrive. Considering we were the first diners to enter, and it was not terribly busy in any case, it seemed way too long to await our dinner
