Comfort food with an attitude-great liver and onions, and tasty beef tornadeu-cooked perfect med rare! Great service and moderate pricing. I will return!
Outstanding service, diversified menu, and very good food. Was nice that I could make reservations with Open Table. Went later -- 6:45 pm during the week, and we were seated immediately. I will definitely go again, and my friends agree. Some of the pricing is higher than other restaurants, as in $29 for prime rib (only served on weekend), but there are moderately priced entrees as well.
Mom’s 85th birthday!! It was everyone’s first time & we all truly enjoyed it!! We will be back again!!
Not our first visit to the Braised Onion. We keep going back all the time. Enjoy the home cooked cuisine and excellent cocktails from a very capable bartender.
Braised Onion has never disappointed us. They are always accommodating. The service and food has always been outstanding. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone.
Met friends. Great visit as we had to wait for our very delicious food served by our very good waitress. The kitchen was obviously a bit overwhelmed as it took a while to get our food out. The wine we sipped while waiting was very good, but the noise level of so many happy diners made it difficult to talk across the table. The owner needs to put in a noise control ceiling and perhaps hire a couple more good chefs or assistants for the kitchen to get top marks all around.
Regardless of the side issues, will definitely return as the food selection and tastes were both very satisfying and better than most other local restaurants. The price was reasonable as well.
We were all glad that we had decided to give the Braised Onion a try.
This is a great place for some awesome comfort food. Service was great and everything came out hot and delicious.
Food was enjoyable. Good options on the menu. Something for everything. Wine list a little lacking but martini bar made up for it. Good music playing. It was very busy and they were 1-2 servers short but when the servers were around they were attentive and pleasant. Drinks and dinner $40 per person. We would go back.
I love the Braised Onion even though it is a 45 minute drive. The service is outstanding. The last time we were there we had Trevor as a server. He was amazing, attentive, accommodating, and very knowledgeable about the menu. Also Cheri (?sp) is an excellent server. Everything I have ordered there has been so delicious. i highly recommend this restaurant. Even there reservation system is a breeze. Yup, my favorite place.
We went for dinner on Easter and we were very disappointed. We went with another couple and we both researched a place to eat. Based on mostly good to excellent reviews, and the menu on their website, we decided this would be a great choice. When we arrived we were very disappointed to find that there was no ordering from the menu. We were shocked to find out the price of the buffet was $40. It was definitely not worth the price. All 4 of us thought the food was mediocre, at best. We haven't decided if we will try it again on a regular day.
Easter Sunday brunch was wonderful. The food was great. I was pleased to see several vegetarian options on the buffet that were delicious. The kitchen staff did their best keeping the buffet well stocked. Overall a good experience.
We went for a birthday celebration. They don't offer a treat for the birthday person, but that was ok. Our food was good!!! Our service was great!
We always love going to the Braised Onion. Their short ribs are the best!
Food was fabulous and the service was perfect.
Very nice dinner and experience for my mom’s birthday dinner.
The service was extremely poor. The waitress was friendly enough but we waited way too long for our food. Most of us took our food home and ate it for lunch the next day and I must say, the food was excellent but would have been more enjoyable to have had it the night we went out for it. The owner did comp our evening out which was, what we feel, more than appropriate. It appeared that the staff was not managed very well as our waitress had tables all over the place, the bartender was helping at tables so therefore people weren't getting their drinks. Lots of confusion.
Food was nothing special, portions were small, French fries are the best!
SLOW service every time you go. Frazzled wait staff. Takes too long to get served and waited on. This was my 2nd try at this restaurant - and each time it's extremely slow.
This time, we went there specifically 2 hours prior to our theater ticket show time; assuming it was plenty of time for a table of 4 to eat. We ordered within 5 minutes of sitting down because we knew we didn't want to wait long. It took over an hour before we realized we didn’t have our food still and flagged our waitress down to check on our food. We mentioned we had theater tickets and needed our food soon. She went and got a manager, who came and told us they had an accident in the kitchen, plus a large party, and it would be another 20 minutes.
I totally understand that things happen, but have a plan in place when things go wrong . Had the waitress let us know early on there was an issue, we could have gone somewhere else and not had a bad experience. They knew they had a large party and were extremely understaffed. And they continued taking patrons, knowing they were over 1 1/2 hours wait on food, and with the accident issue in the kitchen. I felt bad for the waitress, as she was having to wait on half the room it seemed, and of course everyone is aggravated about waiting. I’m sure her tips were awful that night and she was working extra hard. Shame on management.
Arriving at exactly the time of our reservation, we were greeted by a hostess who did not seem to be expecting anyone. She recovered quickly and seated us by three other groups. All of them were very loud throughout our meal. Trevor, our waiter was efficient and timely, just a bit aloof. The Cesar Wedge was excellent, a great presentation. The Lemon Chicken was delicious, almost a Picotta. Chicken Marsala cooked perfectly. Staff began cleaning around us, several leaving before we did. A great meal, not the best experience, since there were so many other places we could have been seated. Had it been a special occasion, we may not have ordered.
Very good meals! Delicious! Atmosphere nice, good value. We will be back!
The Braised Onion Round Loaf is the best appetizer ever!! So tasty. The beef stroganoff is fantastic. Whenever we are in Ocala, we visit the Braised Onion.
Wonderful food and service
First time there. Service was excellent, food tasty, good menu.
The atmosphere was lovely and the food was superb. Braised Onion is a nice hideaway spot for good music and food in Ocala.
Not impressed with the service and the food wasn't anything special. We were rushed throughout our meal. No drink menu was provided and water glasses were never refilled. Asked to sub a side salad in place of french fries and was told that wasn't an option since they offer half salads - what if you don't want fries and a salad.
The food was ok, service was terrible. We sat there about 30 minutes before someone even acknowledged that we we're even there. We were there to celebrate my husband's birthday. He asked for extra butter only on his bake potatoe and the only thing that was on there was a ton a sour cream which he does not like. As if that wasn't bad enough at the end of our dinner when the waitress brought our check she also brought over business cards from her other job (message therapist) and passed them out telling us if we ever need a massage that we should come buy and see her. I was stunned that she had done that.
We took out of town guests to celebrate our 52nd anniversary, and we were disappointed. My husband and I have eaten there about 4 times, it was all good. One piece of my chicken from chicken Marsala was full of gristle and some soft fat, my husbands beef burgundywas not warm, he didn’t want to send it back and make a fuss. Two of us had broccoli that was cold, we did have that replaced and it was then okay. She did not complain, but our guest had salmon, and the inside looked rather mushy to me.
Not sure we will return right away.
Our second time here and food again did not disappoint. All in our party loved their meals and I believe the pear salad I had is the best salad ever. That being said, they were apparently short staffed with their servers and we waited an hour even though having a reservation. That was very frustrating and a visit from the manager or discount of some kind would have been appreciated. We will try once more but if we run into same issue will not return. In my opinion no restaurant is worthy of an hour wait (with a reservation)!
We had our wedding dinner at Braised Onion and went back for our first anniversary. The service is great and the food is delicious. I think their grilled mushroom soup is the best mushroom soup I have ever had.
We take all of our visitors here to experience the great food, great service and ambiance. The Onion Loaf is our 'go to' appetizer to share and the portions are quite large. This last visit was no exception as Wendy, our server, was very attentive and our food was fabulous!
Excellent service. Will ask for Trevor in the future. He was very knowledgeable about menu and wines.
Food was well priced and portions generous.
Our party enjoyed onion straw loaf for appetizer plus short rib stroganoff and meatloaf sandwich for entrees.
Desserts of coconut cream pie and strawberry shortcake were great. Happy that our waiter brought them to our attention.
Husband enjoyed short ribs. I had chicken Marsala which was very bland. Whipped potatoes tasted like they were from a box.
A busy night as it was Valentine's Day, but the hospitality by the hostess, the owner and our waitress were very sincere and not overplayed.
The food was very good, particularly the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer.
This was our second time there and we will definitely be going back!
My daughter and 2 grand daughters returned for Valentines Day after visiting 3 nights before with my son in law. We were seated in an ‘over-flow’ dining room and waited 35 minutes to be brought water and a drink menu requested twice. We had to ask for bread at that point. When returning for our order we informed there were no dishes available for children -though we were provided a kids menu by the hostess when seated And there were no entrees available to suit my allergies-nothing. We should have left then. After 2 trips to the kitchen they were willing to grill a piece of salmon to add to my half pear salad and make my grand daughter mac n cheese. I asked specifically that my salmon be medium rare and it arrived cooked dry and the Mac n cheese was completely tasteless as were the special crab cakes my daughter ordered as an app. The highlights were her lobster bisque and short rib entree which was great. After 1 1/2 hours for poor service and dull food we decided to forego dessert. 4 apps, 1 entree and 3 wines were $93 before tip. Worst Valentines in memory. Like many good restaurants they were completely incompetent on a busy holiday.
We were put in an area I’d call “overflow”. Had dined there a few times and was always in the other room which was much nicer. Food was good but found it overpriced. $145 including top is quite pricy for two people even on Valentine’s Day.
Extremely noisy - needs acoustic tile in the concrete walled room. Food was just ok. Not what you expect for the high prices.
All the food was very good and came out within a good time. The only "problem" was that I did not see any mention of the fact that they would only be serving from a specific Valentine's Day menu on their website or anywhere. I was planning on spending around $35 for us and ended up well over $70... We could not simply leave as we made reservations and were already sitting down. Definitely felt a little tricked.
Was amazingly good food at affordable price. Glad we gave it a try.
We couldn’t wait to return to braised onion since visiting last year when in town for the HITS horse-show. Once again they were conscious of my food allergies. The appetizers were wonderful again- lobster bisque, onion loaf, lobster crab salad, pear salad and the kids sliders were great. Sadly our fish entrees Salmon and Cod were both lacking flavor. We’re looking forward to returning on Valentines Day.
we brought our friends to enjoy the Braised Onion and they were impressed, when they discovered the deserts, they were in love with this place
