Very good meals! Delicious! Atmosphere nice, good value. We will be back!
The Braised Onion Round Loaf is the best appetizer ever!! So tasty. The beef stroganoff is fantastic. Whenever we are in Ocala, we visit the Braised Onion.
Wonderful food and service
First time there. Service was excellent, food tasty, good menu.
The atmosphere was lovely and the food was superb. Braised Onion is a nice hideaway spot for good music and food in Ocala.
Not impressed with the service and the food wasn't anything special. We were rushed throughout our meal. No drink menu was provided and water glasses were never refilled. Asked to sub a side salad in place of french fries and was told that wasn't an option since they offer half salads - what if you don't want fries and a salad.
The food was ok, service was terrible. We sat there about 30 minutes before someone even acknowledged that we we're even there. We were there to celebrate my husband's birthday. He asked for extra butter only on his bake potatoe and the only thing that was on there was a ton a sour cream which he does not like. As if that wasn't bad enough at the end of our dinner when the waitress brought our check she also brought over business cards from her other job (message therapist) and passed them out telling us if we ever need a massage that we should come buy and see her. I was stunned that she had done that.
We took out of town guests to celebrate our 52nd anniversary, and we were disappointed. My husband and I have eaten there about 4 times, it was all good. One piece of my chicken from chicken Marsala was full of gristle and some soft fat, my husbands beef burgundywas not warm, he didn’t want to send it back and make a fuss. Two of us had broccoli that was cold, we did have that replaced and it was then okay. She did not complain, but our guest had salmon, and the inside looked rather mushy to me.
Not sure we will return right away.
Our second time here and food again did not disappoint. All in our party loved their meals and I believe the pear salad I had is the best salad ever. That being said, they were apparently short staffed with their servers and we waited an hour even though having a reservation. That was very frustrating and a visit from the manager or discount of some kind would have been appreciated. We will try once more but if we run into same issue will not return. In my opinion no restaurant is worthy of an hour wait (with a reservation)!
We had our wedding dinner at Braised Onion and went back for our first anniversary. The service is great and the food is delicious. I think their grilled mushroom soup is the best mushroom soup I have ever had.
We take all of our visitors here to experience the great food, great service and ambiance. The Onion Loaf is our 'go to' appetizer to share and the portions are quite large. This last visit was no exception as Wendy, our server, was very attentive and our food was fabulous!
Excellent service. Will ask for Trevor in the future. He was very knowledgeable about menu and wines.
Food was well priced and portions generous.
Our party enjoyed onion straw loaf for appetizer plus short rib stroganoff and meatloaf sandwich for entrees.
Desserts of coconut cream pie and strawberry shortcake were great. Happy that our waiter brought them to our attention.
Husband enjoyed short ribs. I had chicken Marsala which was very bland. Whipped potatoes tasted like they were from a box.
A busy night as it was Valentine's Day, but the hospitality by the hostess, the owner and our waitress were very sincere and not overplayed.
The food was very good, particularly the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer.
This was our second time there and we will definitely be going back!
My daughter and 2 grand daughters returned for Valentines Day after visiting 3 nights before with my son in law. We were seated in an ‘over-flow’ dining room and waited 35 minutes to be brought water and a drink menu requested twice. We had to ask for bread at that point. When returning for our order we informed there were no dishes available for children -though we were provided a kids menu by the hostess when seated And there were no entrees available to suit my allergies-nothing. We should have left then. After 2 trips to the kitchen they were willing to grill a piece of salmon to add to my half pear salad and make my grand daughter mac n cheese. I asked specifically that my salmon be medium rare and it arrived cooked dry and the Mac n cheese was completely tasteless as were the special crab cakes my daughter ordered as an app. The highlights were her lobster bisque and short rib entree which was great. After 1 1/2 hours for poor service and dull food we decided to forego dessert. 4 apps, 1 entree and 3 wines were $93 before tip. Worst Valentines in memory. Like many good restaurants they were completely incompetent on a busy holiday.
We were put in an area I’d call “overflow”. Had dined there a few times and was always in the other room which was much nicer. Food was good but found it overpriced. $145 including top is quite pricy for two people even on Valentine’s Day.
Extremely noisy - needs acoustic tile in the concrete walled room. Food was just ok. Not what you expect for the high prices.
All the food was very good and came out within a good time. The only "problem" was that I did not see any mention of the fact that they would only be serving from a specific Valentine's Day menu on their website or anywhere. I was planning on spending around $35 for us and ended up well over $70... We could not simply leave as we made reservations and were already sitting down. Definitely felt a little tricked.
Was amazingly good food at affordable price. Glad we gave it a try.
We couldn’t wait to return to braised onion since visiting last year when in town for the HITS horse-show. Once again they were conscious of my food allergies. The appetizers were wonderful again- lobster bisque, onion loaf, lobster crab salad, pear salad and the kids sliders were great. Sadly our fish entrees Salmon and Cod were both lacking flavor. We’re looking forward to returning on Valentines Day.
we brought our friends to enjoy the Braised Onion and they were impressed, when they discovered the deserts, they were in love with this place
Trever was our server and he was extraordinary! He was professional, knowledgeable of the menu offerings, courteous, an excellent communicator and efficient.
Food was just ok and service was great!
Just a very pleasant and wonderful surprise! The food is simple but executed VERY well. Braised Onion nails this and add a signature onion twist to the mix! The service was very good, the ambiance was perfectly tame. Not too loud but still a nice energy about. The appetizer of round onion loaf with onion jam was delicious. Entree selections were great and our skirt steak and liver/onions were both spot on. However, the two slices of bacon with the liver, while perfectly cooked, felt like an afterthought and not truly incorporated into the dish. Also, the side items are very well executed but pretty limited in selection and largely the same with every dish, hence my four stars instead of five. The desserts were amazing!! Coconut cream pie and New York style cheesecake. Delicious. They also make one of the best sangrias we’ve had in a while!! We HIGHLY recommend this restaurant! There are several items we can’t wait to try!
Once again the liver and onions was excellent. We all had it! I introduced 3 friends to
the restaurant. The bread pudding is incredible. Only restaurant I eat bread pudding at.!!
Food was great! We has the chicken marsala, pork loins, salmon, shrimp and grits, and bread pudding for dessert. All was delicious. I prefer my bread pudding warm and even though this was chilled it was still delicious. Service was great.
Best meal out in a long time. The food was presented in an appealing way. It was tasty and simple at the same time. Service was efficient.
We did not enjoy our dinner. We waited almost one hour to be served and the food was not hot, just a little better than room temperature. Ugh!!!
The food was a disappointment. We came for dinner for a birthday celebration. The French Onion soup was good, but far from superb. The bread under the cheese was not firm but soaked. The salad was wilted and did not appear appetizing. My chicken dish had the appearance of being left over, covered two-thirds of the plate and was swimming in gravy. The green beans and mashed potatoes were quite good. My husband ordered the liver and onions which were enjoyed but again had too much gravy. The meatloaf was good, but needed gravy along with a more generous serving of potatoes. My daughter ordered the pot pie which was not dry and not overloaded with carrots. We all agreed the pot pie was delicious. I ate lunch at the Braised Onion a few months ago and it had a much better presentation. Our young service waiter was excellent during this dinner. He had been groomed for his position well. PeggyS
Very impressed with food, atmosphere and service. Good selection of entrees and desserts, comfortable and attractive decor, and our server, Trevor, was professional, personable and contributed greatly to our giving Braised Onion a 5 star rating.
As usual, food was delicious and nicely presented , service was top notch(kudos, Wendy) and drinks were great! We’ve been coming here for two and 1/2 years and are never disappointed!
The hostess was over not prepared for service, even though we had called weeks in advance.
The service staff was good but the timing for meals was atrocius.(SP)
Food was late for some diners, on time for others. (only a table of four)
Diner was soup (Cold) and just broth. Not the onion soup that expected with ONION in it.
Kitchen was ready for this rather meager meal and customers.
Might try again just as a second chance. (Ocala does not offer fine dining!)
Good decor but overall meal.setting, and quality is poor.
Went for a birthday celebration. Extremely disappointed. We had a 6:30 reservation. The hostess seated us. 30 minutes later had to ask the hostess to send us a server. Server came over to tell us that she had told hostess not to seat us cause she wasn’t ready. I told her a drink would make us happy to which we ordered and then waited another 20 minutes to get. Waitress tried to make it enjoyable but offered no round of drinks or anything! Not even a free dessert for birthday girl! I’ll never go back! Food was good but nothing so outstanding that it would overcome the bad experience. They kept saying they were busy?! Not every table full and most tables were either paying or getting entrees when we were sitting for the 50 minutes waiting...
Upon moving to the Ocala area several years ago, I discovered the Braised Onion and have sung it's praises to friends and family ever since. "One of my favorites". But after the last two visits, I can no longer offer this opinion. Most recently, I arranged for dinner with 3 other family members. Let me state that the restaurant was very busy (theatre night). I had made the reservation via Open Table. Upon arriving, we were told there would be a lengthy wait for a regular table or booth. As we too were attending local theatre show, we opted to dine at a high top (not our preference). Two of my group ordered the pecan salmon. We've had it in the past and it was very good, reasonable portion and well prepared. This time, both the plates had a tiny portion of salmon, very thin, over cooked. One ordered the seafood pescatori. It was ok, but not very interesting or flavorful. I almost always order the lemon chicken, but the last 2 visits I got very bland chicken, very little lemon flavor evident. Tiny portions of potatoes and green beans. So I opted for the chicken marsala. Again, not very flavorful, very few tiny mushroom pieces. Mashed potatoes the size of a golf ball and a small portion of green beans. I had always appreciated the "comfort food" nature of the BO menu, but now find the dishes to be bland, uninteresting and small portions. There are other nice options around the Ocala area, and so am not sure if or when I would revisit or certainly not recommend the BO to friends any longer. We barely made it to our show on time as food service was very slow (again, I acknowledge that they were busy. Maybe over booked???).
We were there to celebrate a birthday, but the BD girl ordered the prime rib at 6:00 on a Saturday and was disappointed when told they were out. Three of us ordered the beef stroganoff which was very good but the beef was sparse and the sauce was distributed unevenly; I was swimming in it and others had very little. The two dishes that were not disappointment were the lemon chicken and the fried pork. We were also entertaining guests from out of town and would have liked to visit but the noise level was so high, due to a party near us that had more than enough alcohol to drink; we had to yell to be heard.
I was very pleased with the ease of making a reservation and once there, we were seated right away. The service was excellent. The food was very good! The atmosphere was good but for the price of the food maybe a little extra pizazz would have been nice . Overall it was a great experience!! Compliments to the chef who cooked my steak !!!
This was our 10th wedding Anniversary and we expected a lot more, the table they sat us at was not set up had no candle and had four hard wooden chairs, we were unhappy and asked to me moved to a booth where we could at least sit next to each other. The sever was fantastic and the appetizer was good but, the Prime Rib was our main course and was the worst we have ever had the cuts had 70% fat and had no flavor, and even the server commented on it. when the manager was told about it her return answer for it being so fatty was that the chef cuts it thicker to make up for the fat content. Needless to say we did not get any discount for the bad cuts of meat. We will not be returning anytime soon.
We had a 6:15 reservation and when we entered the place was 85% empty. They seated us between two other tables and right in front of the door, on the coldest night. Every time the door opened, we were blasted with cold air. We didn't ask to be moved because the door only opened a few times.
The Braised Onion has yummy comfort food. We went on the coldest night in Florida and the food warmed our hearts. The chicken pot pie is the best!
The service was excellent and the food was good. On New Years eve they had a special menu. They did not allow substitutions for potato for rice as example. The prices were too high for the entrees as there was nothing that should have cost as much as they were asking. Even a high priced restaurant would have been less expensive. The value was not there. Usually prices are reasonable. WE WILL NOT GO BACK ON ANY HOLIDAY.
