The food is awesome and the service top notch!! Highly recommend.
We made a reservation through OPENTABLE for 6:00 pm March 11, 2020 for a party of 10. Reservation number 2109852629.
We arrived at 6:02 pm due to traffic and were told that there would be a 10 minute delay due to a "large" 30 person "walk-in" about 20 minutes ago. I explained that we had Reilly tickets for 7:30 pm and I was told that it was not a problem. We waited. 20 minutes later, we were still not seated so I spoke to a young lady who went to see what she can do. Around 6:35 pm, we were seated. We explained to the waiter that we had to be out by 7:15 to get to the Reilly on time. He took our drink and orders on the spot. Drinks did arrive. Our food was not on the table at 7:20 pm so one of our party walked to see what was happening. The lady who first told us that we would be delayed 10 minutes at the onset came out and told us it would be another 10 to 15 minutes.
We walked out and we will not return nor will any of our group. Keep in mind that we were REGULARS.
As a comment, when an "unreserved" group comes in, please look after the "reserved" group first. We found out that there were only 2 wait staff present. Understaffed? I guess if the 30 were refused (or served after us), none of this would have happened. So, we did not get our dinner and in the end, we missed part of our performance. Braised Onion ruined the entire evening.
AND on top of that, I send this very same message to their site directly and they DID NOT EVEN RESPOND!
We have been there before but it's been a long time. Loved it!
Mighty fine food, service and ambience. The only knock and (it's not a deal breaker) was the noise. It was loud, but joyous.
Excellent dinner. Good service.
We had a 6:30 reservation and were seated on time. There were empty booths and I asked if we could have one, since we were going to be seated at a table for four, anyway. We were told those were reserved. Shortly after, other diners arrived and after being led to tables, we could see they were asking about sitting in a booth. Their requests were granted. Throughout the time we were there, there was always at least one open booth. That set the tone. My husband had the pork special and said it was good. I ordered my prime rib medium well, and it was medium rare if not rare. On the plus side, the drinks were good. Service was mediocre. When leaving I ran into the owner and shared our experience with her. She was apologetic and gave us a gift certificate for a future visit. It’s a 45 minute drive so I’m not sure we’ll be back, but the gesture was appreciated.
We had a wonderful meal with attentive wait staff. Excellent soup and our steaks were cooked to perfection.
Slow service, overpriced. Out os 4 dinner, the only food anyone liked was the coconut shrimp. Will not return.
Our food was amazing and even though we were just a couple of minutes late for our reservation we were still seated pretty promptly so yes highly recommend great food and service
It was good, not great but not bad. Food was average for what they serve. I think they do a decent job but for the price, I want to be more impressed. Not a place I would avoid but not a place I would race back to. I think the best part are the people. They are very nice!!
Such a super place to have a lovely dinner as a special occasion, or just a dinner out. The staff is very helpful and kind. Our service was outstanding. Food is very good. We love coming here.
We love bringing friends their for dinner. It’s a great place!
Braised Onion is one of our favorite restaurants because of the excellent food and service. Dining there is always a pleasant experience.
We went to this place lase year and it was top notch this year forget it. They ran out of prime rib at 7 pm this was also our dinner time .Served bread and was told they had no more butter BUT was making some ??My stake was cool and my wife's also . My friend ribs were cold as hell .She never asked if we wanted coffee or desert after dinner .She just dropped the bill and gone. AND so are we <<<<.
Very disappointed. Valentine's Day dinner with my wife. The restaurant was understaffed. My wife's lobster AND my grouper were both undercooked. The surf and turf was way way overpriced at $51.00. They tried to make it right by offering us free dessert, which we took home with us. At this price we didn't feel they went far enough to make things more enjoyable. I'm not looking for a free meal but they could've done better. I wont be returning or recommending this restaurant. 😔😔😔
Had reservations for Valentine’s Day, however they seemed a bit short staffed. Our server was excellent though. I didn’t like that we were seated near the bar and consequently, had to deal with rude conversations and people’s rears all night long. In the future I will insist on a table not near the bar and will advise friends of the same.
The Valentine's menu was much more expensive than the regular menu and had less choices; the expense was the only negative thing. Our waiter, Tony, was great.
Awesome staff and great food !! Will definitely visit this restaurant again.
Great food, outstanding service in a nice, friendly (not pretentious) environment. It can get a bit noisy at peak hours Friday/Saturday evenings, but well worth that small inconvenience. Braised beef, salmon, chicken always prepared perfectly. We always go for any celebration, as we know it will be virtually perfect every time.
Celebrating Birthday. Prime rib ordered for everyone with baked potatoes and broccoli. Everything was cold. Major disappointment. Soups, salads, bread were good. Ordered dessert. No free dessert for the birthday girl. However the owner did stop by the table next to us to say hello to someone and offered them free dessert... guess it matters who you know!
Service was attentive. This is second bad experience with Prime Rib night offered Fridays/Saturdays.
Don’t know if we will order in the future.
We enjoy eating here and have been coming for a numbers of years!
We’ve even had Ladies Church luncheons here! So nice!!
Fantastic prime rib and liver & onions dinners. Wait staff was perfection. The restaurant was clean and beautiful. Our first time there, but we will be going their again real soon!!
Very nice dinner and very good experience.
We were late. But staff was fast and friendly
$35.00 for a steak 1/2 thick, overpriced. Cold broccoli, and barely warm potato. Not the quality I was expecting.
First times. We invited another couple and they were pleased as well with the food, the service etc. we had to wait a little while for our food to arrive, but it was worth the wait. The special that night was red snapper which was thoroughly enjoyed. We didn’t know it was happy hour either so our 2:1 drinks were a pleasant surprise! While we waited for our food, Don, the waiter was very attentive and supplied us with extra bread which was delicious! The four of us are planning a second visit soon!!
We were not aware of the New Year menu which was pricier than what we were expecting. Felt the price did not reflect the quality of food. May go back and try the regular menu.
At first, we were disappointed to discover that the regular menu was unavailable in favor of a pris fixe menu. However, once we ordered and the food arrived, any misgivings were quickly eliminated. The food was sensational as was the service by Trevor. All in all, a great way to spend New Year's Eve.
We would recommend that diners be notified of the menu change. At least one couple left when the revised menu was presented. The cost was much higher than we would typically spend at Braised Onion although it was worth it.
First time at Braised Onion. Will definitely go back. The short ribs were cooked perfect as was the beef medallions. Green beans were excellent - not overcooked! The only disappointment was the Key Lime Pie. Next time we'll try the bread pudding.
This was our third visit in 3 months and it only gets better!! Our server, Trevor, is extremely knowledgeable with the menus and helped our party have a truly wonderful dinner.
Don’t pass this one up!
Christmas Eve dinner. Made a reservation and waited 30 minutes. That would have been fine if the food was good. I’ve been here before and the food was always good. They were out of basic menu items. Got our entree’s before soup and salads. Dried out salmon with congealed sauce on top. Must have been under the warmers for hours! Ceaser salad with whole lettuce heads, dressing poured over it with a few croutons thrown on. Seemed they were just trying to use up what was left in the kitchen. Used to be a go to restaurant! Never again!
Although we had a reservation for 4:00pm, the restaurant was not fully staffed which put a burden on the lone waiter. Donnie explained the situation and apologized for the somewhat slow service. Since we were not in a hurry, we told him we did not mind waiting and he did a respectable job providing for the diners until reinforcements arrived. The atmosphere is pleasant and colorful. Prices range from very reasonable low teens to around $30.00+ per entree. It must have been happy hour as our wine was two for $6.00.
The mushroom soup was wonderful. My husband ordered the Lobster Mac and Cheese at $18. The serving was generous with creamy pasta and very large pieces of lobster. He would order it again. I opted for the Liver and Onions with Bacon at $13.50. Not everyone’s choice, I know, but a favorite of mine and it’s not very often available when eating out. I asked for the liver to be cooked medium and it was done perfectly. The tendency seems to be to over cook it.
We didn’t order dessert although it was offered. We absolutely will go again and bring friends with us.
While we enjoyed the food and ambiance, the service was the real star of our meal. Our server, Trevor, reminded us of staff at the finest restaurants and hotels we've visited. Our party of six enjoyed our luncheon and will return.
Enjoyable evening out. Atmosphere was quaint, Rachel our server was very attentive, knowledgeable, and just a pleasure. Very rare do you see a server take the time to answer questions and do it with a smile.
Food presentation was amazing and tasty. Desserts are made in house. Mmmm too. We will be back.
Our party of 8 each said they enjoyed their meal, which included seafood and beef dishes. Most of us had 1/2 salads or soup appetizers as well. Trevor provided excellent and responsive service throughout, and was extremely patient with ‘us senior citizens’. The bread pudding was excellent as well, as was the key lime pie.
No wait for table as I could make reservation on line. Service was amazing, food excellent and affordable. 3 dinners, 1 cocktail and 1 soft drink with tip less than $90.
We had a group of 8 with a reservation on a Tuesday evening and the restaurant was busy. Our server, Rachel, did an excellent job, never missing a beat with drinks, appetizers and entrees exactly as ordered. Everything arrived timely and she did a great job in checking throughout our meal to make sure everything was okay and/or to see if anyone needed anything. I had the catfish entree and it was excellent, the filets were crispy on the outside but flaky and tender on the inside. The fried onion loaf as an appetizer was one of the best, if not the BEST, that I have ever had!!! Also decorated very nicely and appropriately for the Christmas season. Would highly recommend and will definitely return.
Staff here are courteous and friendly. Food is excellent also.
I was traveling within FL and stopped in Ocala for dinner. Based on a recommendation from a relative in South FL we ended up at Braised Onion and it did not disappoint.
The area seemed questionable as we were driving to the restaurant, but I am so glad that we stopped in.
Our meals, from the soup (our party of three had lobster bisque and their house onion soup - both were delicious but the onion soup was AMAZING) to our steaks and then dessert, were wonderful. The service was also outstanding.
If you’re an Ocala local or just passing through town looking for a great meal, I recommend that you pay Braised Onion a visit.
We went for the Thanksgiving buffet and it was outstanding. There we're many choices for the entree in case you didn't want turkey including Prime Rib. The only slight let down was the desserts which were small versions of the real thing and some of them just didn't quite make the cut. Other than that everything was cooked right and tasted great. The service and atmosphere were fantastic as usual. We thought it was worth the price and will go again.
