The restaurant was clean and our server was terrific(Joan). It was our first visit to the restaurant and we will go back again with all of our friends. Food was way above par and served hot and in a timely manor. Five stars from us.
We were disappointed with this restaurant. Service was surprisingly slow and server did not seem overly concerned. Pecan salmon dish was over cooked (or maybe cooked twice since we waited so long!) no compensation offered, just an obligatory ‘sorry’.
Good food, comfortable setting, prompt and efficient service.
This is my second time going to this restaurant and each time was an amazing experience. The staff is welcoming and friendly and the food is delicious! The restaurant is clean and it has an enjoyable atmosphere for couples on a date night, birthday parties, you name it. We will be back soon!
Service was excellent but 3 of us ordered the beef stroganoff and it was primarily noodles. There were 3 pieces of beef on 2 of the dishes and 2 pieces in one. There was minimal sauce, one or two pieces of mushrooms, with a bland flavor. The mushroom soup was excellent. The lemon chicken and prime rib ordered by 2 others was very good. We were disappointed in the limited dessert menu for a birthday celebration and that the apple pastry and ice cream dessert was sold out. For those of us that ordered the stroganoff, we thought our bill over $100 was very overpriced for poor quality and although we’d been previous patrons decided we wouldn’t be back.
We were celebrating our anniversary and Trevor treated us royally even though he did not know. He made sure we had everything we needed.
The food was excellent as always but the service was LACKING...very slow
We’ve been several times. We won’t be going again. This place is failing.
Our order taker was good and attentive. The others serving were hopeless. They brought our entrees the second we’d finished our appetisers - and asked us to clear our own appetiser plates.
The food was, at best, just ok. Both our portions of pasta were HUGE. I doubt we ate 20% of the portion. This was more truck stop than Braised Onion. Unfortunately the prices are still Braised Onion in its good days.
The restaurant was only 1/3 full at 8 pm on Saturday evening. Many of the customers were wearing baseball caps at the table - as I said previously - more truck stop than anything else.
What a marvelous surprise! We took our parents who live in Ocala but had never been. They had heard it was good but they were equally impressed and I'm sure they'll be back. It will be on our to do list for every visit!
My family and I always used this restaurant on special occasions, due to its food and nice ambiance, with live music, but the past December 31st, the ambiance was terrible, no music, and by the time we went to dinner, at 20:30, the staff was rushing home. They told us that they will not have live music again in the future. The food was good, though, but not good enough for the price.
We used to love going here. The New Years Eve experience was so disappointing and over priced that we may never return.
Very Disappointed based on reviews read. Steak was overcooked, scallops came out cold in the middle, the service was lackluster and slow (albeit pleasant server) whose only reaction to the food comments above was “oh I’m sorry”
food was outstanding if not pricey. But what can you expect for New Year's eve.
We were very excited to take my Sister to The Braised Onion for dinner on New Years Eve. We had a reso for 615 but arrived at 6 and were sat right away. We were greeted promptly but that's the last prompt thing that happened. We ordered wine, coffee, and water. The coffee came, then 10 minutes later the wine, and 20 minutes later after we ordered our dinners the water. Our first course came out at 625pm, the second course at 735, and our desert at 830. We only saw our waiter 3 times in 2 and a half hours. We saw over 40 people come in after and leave before. Our bill for 3 people was 211.00. I was embarrassed that I took my Sister there and we will not return. 2 people filling drinks and 1 more server would have solved most of this issue.
Lunch service was excellent and my husband's meal of Short Rib Stroganoff was very good. The chef was kind enough to prepare gluten free lemon chicken for me even though it was a dinner item. However, the sauce was so tart that it nearly brought tears to my eyes. I wish I had chosen a different gluten free entree.
We made a 7:30 reservation for the Braised Onion. The first thing our server said was I’ll be back in a few minutes for your food order since our kitchen closes at 8:00. We were unaware of this and we were there for my mothers birthday dinner. The entire evening we were very rushed which was not an enjoyable experience. However, the food was absolutely excellent! The seafood risotto is to die for!!
Very disappointed in the food. Had been there in the past and really enjoyed the experience
which is why we went back. All the entrees were tasteless and small portion for the price. The only good thing was the onion bread appetizer. Service was poor as well. Will not return.
Have been to Braised Onion on several occasions and our last occasion was to celebrate a birthday. As always, the food was excellent and abundant. Will continue to keep this restaurant on our schedule.
Excellent restaurant. My husband had the prime rib and loved it. I had the Eggplant and it as th3 best I ever had. Rolls were delicious. Could not have had a better waiter. He was very courteous and made sure our glasses were full and we didn’t run out of rolls.
Unknown gem. Tried for the first time and was not disappointed. Everything was delicious and Trevor was very attentive. Loved the ambiance! Will definetly go back.
Birthday celebration, had a reservation, still had to wait 25 minutes to be seated. Waitress was slow to greet and take drink orders - had to prompt through out dinner to fill drinks. Soups/apps ordered by all in party, did not come out together 3 were finished before final one arrived.
Waitress ordered wrong entree for one of our guests. When we asked about it, she suggested we keep the incorrect order and she would not “up charge” for the incorrect dish that was more expensive - we declined. Everyone was finished before the final dish arrived.
In two cases, potatoes and vegetables were cold.
Manager was aware of problems but did not engage us until I asked to speak to them. Resolution was not acceptable.
We will NOT be back!
WE were 1st timers, had heard it was a great place to eat, had good food,,, we were very pleased & will revisit again
Our group of 6 enjoyed everything about this dining experience except for one issue: I had made reservations based on your website that said you had vegan choices, but you did not.
I had called in advance to make sure you had vegan not just vegetarian. The person who answered the phone seemed unsure about the differance , but assured me the stricter meal choices could be accommodated.
I was trying to avoid a long conversation with the waiter or chef at the tableside.
The waiter was very friendly and helpful and eventually a salad was identified that could be adjusted.
I just regret that you didn't have a small vegan menu available.
Gluten intolerance is another issue that could be identified on the menu choices.
The food for the remainder of us was excellent.
We went to Braised Onion for Thanksgiving. We had a late table but even with a reservation we had to wait half an hour to get to it. From the waiting area we saw some empty tables including ours. But they let us wait. When we finally got there the food was lukewarm and when it came to the Dessert it was gone. Just some cake was left.
We can't complain about servive. Our waitress did her best.
To be fair it is a great place for Thanksgiving buffet if you get an early table! The later tables have to deal with what's left for the same high price.
For the next year we will look for a different restaurant.
Fabulous brunch on thanksgiving!! Best brunch ever!! 9 of us and not one complaint!!! Just love, love, everything!!!
Very nice buffet for Thanksgiving Dinner. There were great choices for entre's and sides. The desserts were fantastic. The buffet lines were a little crowded and didn't flow very well.
This is my GO TO restaurant in Ocala. Just returned from THE best Thanksgiving buffet. I could not ask for more. We all agreed that we will always return to the Braised Onion for Thanksgiving Dinner. And, I learned that they have a Mother's Day and Easter Buffet yearly too. The quality cannot be topped and the servers are friendly, efficient, professional and so so so helpful.
We often eat at the Braised Onion -- the pecan crusted salmon is my favorite. My brother always orders the Prime Rib and that comes from the expert in Prime Rib.
Don't miss this gem of a restaurant.
Always amazing food! It is comfort food with a twist. Just yummy! Our server was so kind and on top of his game. All around amazing experience.
Just a shade under 5 stars. As a former New York food snob I found it to be a little gem, the beef was good quality & cooked to perfection. Go for it!
outstanding service and our food was good. the restaurant is a special gem in the Ocala restaurant scene inundated by chain facilities.
Upscale comfort food is always delicious and appealing. This place takes it to another level.
Our waitress handled our table of 8 very efficiently.
3rd time back to the Braised Onion. My wife and I brought the in-laws for their 2nd visit. We'll be back again.
Food was delicious and reasonably priced. Service was very good. They have gluten free items.
Service was outstanding. Server was very knowledgeable about menu. Atmosphere and ambiance were great. I'd recommend thus restaurant to any one wanting a nice dining experience.
We were quickly seated, and our server was prompt in taking our drink orders. Our food arrived in a timely fashion and was hot but nothing extraordinary in quality. We all liked our various choices, but no one felt that their meal was outstanding in any way.
Food was great, appetizers were yummy. Drinks were good too.
Disappointing for three of us. In each of our meals we had the same opinion, tasteless. Have eaten here many times in the past but will not be coming back. Definitely need a change in their kitchen.
Very nice meal
Call before you go, make sure they have items on menu available.
Served cold and days old baked potatoes.
FYI, The wedge isn't a wedge, has some gross thousand island dressing and I think parm cheese, not describe in menu as such.
What was really funny asked for blu cheese on filet, waiter said they didn't have any, used it all for the dressing on wedge..... yea no,
manager did run to store to purchase some after explaining not to, as I wanted it cooked on steak, and already at table.
k. but a nice jester I guess after being out of entrée items we came for.
